  • Patent number: 5768993
Abstract: The specification describes an apparatus for providing a fluid under pressure to an exterior surface of an elongate cylinder. The apparatus is comprised of an elongate housing having a fluid collection chamber havingan opening positionable adjacent the exterior surface of the cylinder and an elongate nozzle in the housing which is projected through the opening in close proximity to the exterior surface of the cylinder. The nozzle has a length which is about equal to the length of the cylinder and a width which is less than the diameter of the cylinder. Conduits are connected in fluid flow communication with the nozzle and chamber in order to provide a flow of ink or cleaning fluid to the nozzle for inking or cleaning the cylinder under pressure and to maintain a reduced pressure in the chamber relative to the pressure of fluid exiting the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5761997
Abstract: Apparatus (10) for adjusting and aligning a first, slidable surface (12) in proximate contact with a second, rotating surface (14). Means for urging a lateral edge of the first surface (12) towards and subsequently in contact with the second surface (14) includes a motion transfer system which includes a pivot arm (18,19) driven by a respective rotatable rod-like member (40,42). The rod-like member (40,42), when moved axially, urges the respective pivot arm (18,19) into forced moving contact with an end portion of the first surface (12) until it is aligned with and subsequently in proximate contact with the roller surface (14). Alignment of the doctor blade (12) is achieved by turning a hex nut portion of the rod like member controlling the respective pivot arm until the end portion of the blade is aligned identically with the roller surface (14).

  • Patent number: 5749293
Abstract: In an inking apparatus for use in a printing press, an ink pan located below a plate cylinder is separated into a first part which accommodates a furnisher roll for furnishing ink and a second part which receives contaminated ink containing foreign substance scraped off a doctor blade. In order to prevent the ink within the second part from flowing directly into the first part, partitions are provided, or alternatively the second part is positioned lower than the first part, or alternatively the first part and the second part are comprised of two separate receptacles. The supply of ink to the plate cylinder may be carried out by any suitable means other than the furnisher roll. The ink pan may be configured in the form of an exclusive receptacle adapted to receive only the contaminated ink containing foreign substance scraped off the doctor blade, the supply of ink to the plate cylinder being effected without passing through the ink pan.

  • Patent number: 5735204
Abstract: A dampening water circulation system achieves further lightweighting, easy maintenance and decreases a heat energy influencing the temperature of the dampening water. There are provide a dampening water supply pipe 50 and the dampening water pool bar 60 along the water fountain roller 20. The dampening water pool bar and the water fountain roller are arranged to maintain an aperture G of several mm to thereby form the water pool portion 70 between two members. The fed water can be kept in the dampening water pool portion to be applied on the water fountain roller. The dampening water pool portion is made small in size to minimize a time for the dampening water from the supply pipe 50 to the water fountain roller whereat the supplied water does not influenced by any foreign element, which can minimize the return water amount and is effective to decrease the cooling capacity for the used dampening water.

  • Patent number: 5735210
Abstract: A doctor blade unit for the inking system of a rotary printing press consists of a doctor blade carrier, on which two doctor blades that can be brought into contact with an inking roller or screen roller are fastened parallel to one another in the approximate shape of a roof, with said doctor blades limiting an ink chamber in cooperation with the inking roller, the doctor blade carrier and sealing elements provided on the ends of said doctor blade carrier. Ducts for supplying and discharging ink into/out of the ink chamber and contacting units for pressing the doctor blade carrier against the inking roller are also provided. In order to ensure that both doctor blades can be pressed against the screen roller with exactly the same contact pressure, the doctor blade carrier is connected to a doctor blade unit carrier that is provided with the coupling rods of parallel pitman systems. The parallel pitmans are coupled to inking system flames or supports of the inking system flames.

  • Patent number: 5730054
Abstract: An inking and coloring device for a printer has a pair of ink supply rollers, a pair of ink transfer rollers, a printing drum, a cam arm and a drive device. Each of the ink transfer rollers are movable between a first position in which the ink transfer rollers contact a respective ink supply roller and a second position for transferring ink to the printing drum. Each of the ink transfer rollers are connected to a respective cam roller operable by the cam arm. The drive device causes the cam arm to move in a reciprocal manner, thereby causing each cam roller to move a respective ink transfer roller between its first and second positions. The arrangement is such that when one ink transfer roller is in the first position, the other is in the second position and, vice versa. The printing drum is reciprocally movable between the ink transfer rollers simultaneously with the movement of the said cam arm.

  • Patent number: 5713282
Abstract: A system for supplying dampening fluid to a lithographic press dampening system. A metering roller pair is arranged to form a metering nip such that dampening fluid cannot drain away in a circumferential direction when the rollers stop moving. The metering nip constitutes a reservoir capable of being replenished with dampening fluid so the metering rollers can deliver dampening fluid in a manner that prevents contamination.
