  • Patent number: 4467218
Abstract: A current-driven power generating apparatus including a water wheel having a transversely extending axle on which are fixedly mounted a plurality of paddles. Also mounted on the axially outer ends of this axle are gears. The water wheel is anchored against downstream movement by guide wires attached at one end to the axle and at the other end to an anchor post disposed upstream of the water wheel. The anchor post has a transversely extending shaft rotatably mounted therein containing two pairs of gears on its axially outer ends. Drive chains are mounted on the gears on the axle and on one pair of gears on the shaft. Parallel to the shaft in the anchor post is a horizontally extending power shaft connected at one end to a generator and having a pair of gears mounted at its other end. The gears on the power shaft are in meshed contact with the second pair of gears on the shaft mounted in the anchor post.

  • Patent number: 4467254
Abstract: A motor translator with an up/down counter which inputs a preprogrammed read-only memory for selectively driving a multiple phase stepping motor. The read-only memory stores data at preselected locations and generates drive signals in a sequence which corresponds to the coil switching sequence of the stepping motor. The drive signals generated by the read-only memory in response to direction signals received from the up/down counter are applied to the motor for selective energization thereof.

  • Patent number: 4466510
Abstract: The invention contemplates incorporation of a vertically guided jack-driven mechanism at the point of suspension-cable connection to an elevator car, the jack and all means for control thereof being carried by the elevator car, so that floor-leveling trim adjustment of car floor to landing level can be performed independent of the cable suspension and while the cable-sheave drive motor of the hoist system is at rest. Floor-leveling jack operation is fast and may be initiated upon hoist-system delivery of the car to the approximate level of a destination landing, and the jack may be reset while the hoist system is in operation to deliver the car to the approximate level of a different destination landing.

  • Patent number: 4467259
Abstract: A hybrid inverter for a slip energy recovery system for a wound rotor motor employs six thyristors (for 3 phase operation) or equivalent devices. Three of these are operated continuously in the inversion mode, the other three being operated from zero degrees to 180 degrees. The result is that a characteristic that is identical to a semi-converter is obtained except in the inversion mode. The hybrid inverter produces zero quadrature current at the full speed of the wound rotor motor and, as desired, zero volts at maximum current and maximum volts at zero current.

  • Patent number: 4465358
Abstract: An image density detecting device for an image forming apparatus includes a light diffusing member made of a transparent resin. The light diffusing member has a substantially rectangular sectional profile, with the longitudinal dimension thereof greater than the width of the document, and it is disposed below the document such that it extends in the width direction thereof. The side of the light diffusing member opposite its light receiving surface constitutes a diffusing reflecting surface which is formed by forming blade-like notches on this side. A photodiode is embedded in the end face of the light diffusing member on the side thereof opposite the ends of the blade-like notches.Light reflected by a portion of the document between the opposite edges thereof is received on the light receiving surface of the light diffusing member and is focusedly reflected by the diffusing reflecting surface toward the end face on the side of the photodiode to be detected thereby.

  • Patent number: 4465360
Abstract: An electrophotographic copying machine includes a combined developing-cleaning magnetic brush element. When the copy sheet is smaller than half the size of a photosensitive drum surface, two sheets of copy are obtained by three revolutions of the photosensitive drum in a multi-copy mode. During the first revolution of the photosensitive drum, the combined developing-cleaning magnetic brush element conducts the developing operation onto a first half section of the photosensitive drum and conducts the cleaning operation onto a second half section of the photosensitive drum. During the second revolution of the photosensitive drum, the first half section is cleaned and the second half section is developed. During the third revolution of the photosensitive drum, the first and second half sections are cleaned by the combined developing-cleaning magnetic brush element.

Abstract: A water engine has a barrage with a differential head of water on an upstream and downstream side. The engine has a working chamber and a double acting piston member in the chamber. Valves admit water into the working chamber from the upstream side of the barrage to the two working faces of the piston member in turn to cause horizontal reciprocal movement of the piston member, and the valves also allow water to flow out of the working chamber, on the downstream side of the barrage from that side of the piston member opposite that on which water is being admitted.

  • Patent number: 4464041
Abstract: In the developing apparatus for producing an electrostatic latent image on a charge retaining member such as a drum, a rotating member for producing a shifting magnetic field is used to transport magnetic toner from a toner source to a developing area on the drum. The amount of toner so transported is regulated by the present invention by a magnetizable member positioned adjacent the rotating member in front of the developing area, the magnetizable member being characterized by a curved surface on which a shifting magnetic field is induced by the said rotating member and which attracts excess toner from the latter.

  • Patent number: 4464576
Abstract: A starter drive for internal combustion engines. The starter drive is mounted within the starter housing and connected to the motor driven shaft. The shaft has a screw thread formed thereon near the armature of the starter and a cylindrical end portion. A screw sleeve member cooperatively engages the screw thread of the motor driven shaft. A ring armature member is centrally mounted to the threaded screw member. A unidirectional clutch member connects the screw sleeve member, the ring armature member and the pinion gear. An engaging member holds the ring armature member to the starter housing when the pinion gear is advanced axially along the motor driven shaft by the rotation of the motor when the motor is activated. Thus, the pinion gear engages the engine ring gear such that the pinion gear is held in mesh with the ring gear and the total motor torque is transmitted to the ring gear until the motor is deactivated.

  • Patent number: 4464580
Abstract: In a turbo-machine having a rotor member movable relative to a stationary housing member there is provided a substantially ring-shaped or annular seal between both of these members and serves to seal pressurized water from an external space or region. One of both of these members possesses a sealing surface against which there is pressed a sealing body of the seal which is inserted into the other member, the sealing body being for instance constituted by a lip seal. Improved lubrication, reduced friction and enhanced service life of the seal is attained in that, the sealing surface has fed thereto a friction-reducing liquid, for instance by means of radial grooves provided in the sealing surface or by means of bores opening into the sealing surface.

  • Patent number: 4464618
Abstract: A single phase induction motor of the capacitor start, capacitor run type, has a rotor and stator of conventional polyphase design and a two phase stator winding comprising a main winding with approximately 70% as many turns as a comparable conventional single phase induction motor and an auxiliary winding in series with the main winding, the auxiliary winding having two branches wound in opposite directions, each branch having substantially the same number of turns as the main winding. One branch of the auxiliary winding is connected in series with a running capacitor and this combination is in turn connected in parallel with the other branch. The series arrangement of the main and auxiliary winding is connected to the supply line and a starting capacitor may be paralleled with the running capacitor during starting for improved starting torque in the conventional capacitor start manner.

  • Patent number: 4462678
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for feeding printing plates 33 and transporting them onto an exposure table 1, with the aid of rollers 10, 10', 10" . . . , 11, which are arranged in pairs and are fastened, by means of blocks 5, 6 on two roller rails 4, 4'. The roller rails 4, 4' are located at both sides of the exposure table 1, in the transport direction. The transport rollers 10 which are positioned first in the transport direction of the printing plate 33 are installed on pivoting blocks 5, which are pivoted outwardly before the printing plate 33 is deposited and, after the printing plate 33 has been deposited, are swung into contact, in order to take over the roller-transport, together with the remaining rollers. As soon as the printing plate 33 has reached its exposure position, the roller rails 4, 4' are, in their entirety, swung away from the exposure table 1, parallel to themselves, thus enabling the printing plate 33 to be exposed out to its outer edge without hindrance.
