  • Patent number: 4501973
Abstract: A skid is disclosed which is particularly suitable for supporting rotating machinery in environments where it is exposed to temperature variations and external mechanical forces and where failure of the machinery can result in the generation of an extremely high torque which has to be absorbed. The skid basically comprises a machinery support platform which is connected to an elongate torsion resisting member in torque transmitting relationship and only three spaced supporting members each incorporating a universal joint and rigidly connected to the torsion resisting member. The torsion resisting member is preferably of hollow circular cross-section throughout its length and is disposed below the medial center line of the support platform and the three supporting members are disposed at the corners of an isosceles triangle and incorporate means allowing for limited movement of the torsion resisting member relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 4501345
Abstract: An elevator system, and methods of providing certain functions thereof, wherein an up/down counter provides a count which is used to provide a landing and leveling speed pattern for the elevator car. The counter is preset to a predetermined count prior to entering the landing zone of a target floor, and distance pulses, generated in response to car movement in the landing zone decrement the count when the car moves toward the target floor, and in the event the car overshoots the floor, the distance pulses increment the count while the car is moving away from the floor in the landing zone.

  • Patent number: 4501344
Abstract: A method of generating a landing speed pattern which starts with the dynamics of the actual elevator system and the desired actual landing velocity profile curve, and generates a landing speed pattern which will produce the desired actual landing velocity characteristic. In a preferred embodiment, the actual desired landing velocity is a function of time squared, defining a parabolic profile. The apparatus includes arrangements for implementing a predetermined speed pattern equation in response to the distance-to-go count (DTG) of predetermined standard increments to the target floor.

  • Patent number: 4499974
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing a desired terminal slowdown speed pattern as an elevator car approaches a terminal floor in the terminal slowdown zone. Markers are fixedly spaced in the zone, with their spacing being a direct function of their distance from the terminal floor. The markers are detected as the elevator car proceeds past them towards the terminal floor, and a train of signals T are produced having values responsive to the marker-to-marker time, i.e., the elapsed time between successive detections of markers. The velocity V of the elevator car is also detected, and the terminal slowdown speed pattern is provided as a function of the product of V and T, as scaled by a constant which includes the square root of the desired deceleration rate.

  • Patent number: 4500821
Abstract: In a motor speed or torque control circuit for an electronically commutated motor (ECM) used in a ceiling fan, a pulse width modulator operating at an above audible pulse repetition rate is used in combination with means to adjust the motor voltage to achieve a large (20 to 1) range of smooth fan speed adjustment. The pulse width modulator, which takes the form of a comparator, has as inputs an invariant sawtooth voltage waveform, and a smooth, adjustable control voltage dependent on the voltage supplied to the motor. A steady state or pulsed output is produced dependent on whether intersections occur at the comparator input. The active output state of the pulse width modulator is used to control the application of power to the motor. The control circuit permits speed or torque control from a wall location, or on the ceiling fixture combining the motor. The speed or torque control circuitry is designed for use in a maximally integrated ECM control circuit.

  • Patent number: 4499408
Abstract: The invention discloses a control circuit for an electronically commutated motor which performs essential internal commutation and control functions and responds to external controls, usually user operated. The invention is embodied in a ceiling fan which is subject to controls over motor speed or torque and direction of rotation. The control circuit uses a differential transconductance amplifier, which is periodically balanced, for commutation timing, and control logic, which includes a bidirectional counter, designed for uniformity in count duration, irrespective of the count, direction of counting, or changes in direction of counting, and a five rank decoding structure which selects the unenergized winding stage for sensing, selects the energized winding stages for suitably sensed energization, and responds to both direction and energy controls. The internal control includes circuit protection when power is first turned on.

  • Patent number: 4498121
Abstract: Copper alloys are disclosed which may be bonded to aluminum containing members with reduced formation of undesirable copper-aluminum intermetallic compounds. The copper alloys consist essentially of about 15% to about 30% nickel and the balance essentially copper. The nickel addition in the alloys suppresses the nucleation rate and the subsequent growth rate of copper-aluminum intermetallic compounds. The copper alloys of the instant invention have particular utility in integrated circuit assemblies as lead frames, lead wires and beam lead tapes.
