Abstract: A file management method includes creating a rotation group by grouping a file group in which the generations of the files are managed by changes in the file names, and storing information of the rotation group in a rotation group management unit; acquiring file identification information of the files belonging to the rotation group from the file group according to the information of the rotation group, and storing the file identification information in a file identification information management unit; and acquiring file identification information of the rotation group from the file identification information management unit, further acquiring file identification information of the files belonging to the rotation group from the file group according to the information of the rotation group, and comparing the acquired pieces of file identification information.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses provide real-time or near real-time streaming of content using transfer protocols such as an HTTP compliant protocol. In one embodiment, a method includes providing a request for a playlist file (e.g. an updated playlist) and specifying a compression protocol with or for the request; the request can come from a client device which is requesting the playlist from a web server. The web server can provide the playlist in a compressed format.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for applying a policy criteria to files in a backup image. A backup image of files in a file system is maintained. A policy is applied to the files in the backup image to determine files satisfying a policy criteria. A list is prepared indicating the determined files. The determined files in the file system are accessed and a deferred operation indicated in the applied policy is applied to the accessed files in the file system.

Abstract: In a structure where a table is partitioned into multiple databases according to a certain partitioning method, a coordinator server changes allocation information that is used to determine a database into which each of data records should be registered when an allocation change command is issued. The coordinator server stores therein allocation history information, which is the allocation information used before the change. When an entry request to make an entry of a new data record from a client, a database to enter the new data record is determined based on the stored allocation history information and the changed allocation information, and an entry request is sent to a database server having the determined database.

Abstract: Data associated with the services in a service oriented architecture are stored in a primary repository and replicated across secondary repositories. Functionality can be implemented to efficiently synchronize data across the primary repository and the secondary repositories. Data synchronization can comprise calculating and comparing hash values of one or more nodes, based in part on concatenated hash values of child nodes and data that comprise the one or more nodes, of a tree structure representing data stored in the repositories.

Abstract: Methods, computer-readable storage media and computer systems are provided for transforming a directed acyclic graph (“DAG”) query plan into a linear plan. A DAG query plan may include a first operator and a second operator that are scheduled to be executed in parallel. The DAG query plan may be modified so that the first and second operators are executed in series as an upstream operator and a downstream operator. A data unit output from the upstream operator may be marked to indicate that the data unit has been processed by the upstream operator. The data unit received as input at the downstream operator may be inspected to determine whether the data unit has been marked. Once in linear form, the query plan may be optimized to conserve computing resources.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for validating stored copies of data images to load into memory. An image of data is maintained in a memory, wherein the image in the memory includes a generation number. The image in the memory is written to at least two copies of the image to storage locations in response to a first event, wherein the generation number for the image in the memory is stored in the storage locations having the copies of the image. A check generation number is stored in a storage location. The image is loaded from at least one of the copies of the image in one of the storage locations to the memory in response to a second event. The generation number for the image loaded into the memory. The check generation number is incremented in response to the second event. The generation numbers for the copies of the image in the storage locations and the check generation number are used to validate the copies of the image.

Abstract: An autocomplete method and system provides suggested completions for partial data entries based upon predefined coordinates, operands and/or commands. In one embodiment, the partial data entry may be in an active cell of a spreadsheet and the predefined coordinates may be queried from a separate, preconfigured, multi-dimensional database linked to the active cell or the spreadsheet.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) indicates stale (i.e. outdated) elements in a document according to a stale content policy that specifies one or more thresholds that determine whether or not an element is stale, and if a stale element should trigger an auto suggest mechanism. When an author checks a document out of the repository, the elements in the document are displayed to the user to indicate the element's staleness according to the stale content policy. The auto suggest mechanism populates a related elements list via a query to the repository according to an auto suggest policy that specifies which elements can be included by the auto suggest mechanism in the related elements list. The related elements list is presented to a user, who may select one of the related elements. The link in the document to the stale element is replaced by a link to the selected related element.

Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for extending media retention. Methods are provided in which a set of aging preferences are obtained. Data elements of a data set stored on storage media are evaluated against the aging preferences to determine whether each of the data elements satisfy the aging preferences. Each of the data elements that is determined to satisfy the aging preferences is aged. Aging can include freeing a portion of storage media, previously used to store a data element, for other storage usage.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system for, and method of, searching for and identifying an entity representation. Some embodiments utilize a reflexive, symmetric and transitive function to allow for non-identical matches between field values. The function may be used to generate field value codes, which are associated with a portion of a field value weight for the original field value. In such embodiments, the field value weight for the original field values may be distributed among the original field value and the associated field value code.

Abstract: In one implementation, a system for managing Groups in a Unix environment includes a group management engine and an NIS converter. A group information database stores information about Groups and their Members. The group management engine receives commands from Administrators of a Group to change attributes of Members in the Group. It accesses the database and makes the requested changes. The information in the database is not in an NIS-compatible format. The NIS converter accesses the database and generates an NIS group file that describes a Group and its Members in a format that is NIS-compatible. For example, the NIS group file can be incorporated into the master NIS group map using the #Include# <filename> construct.

Abstract: Selective durability in a directory database is presented. A directory database that provides durability processing includes a mechanism where selective attributes for directory resources can turn durability processing off. So, when a directory transaction is encountered having a durability processing turned off, the directory database processes that directory transaction without first flushing the directory transaction from memory to storage.

Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products facilitate intelligent, automatic selection of content on consumer electronic devices to be backed up. User-defined rules selectively and automatically back up content and/or metadata about the content to a network, to another external device, or to an internal chip or memory. Via a user-friendly interface, users can initially set up rules for content backup, and thereafter, content backup can occur automatically. Stored back up content can be replicated on a device, for example, when the content has become corrupted on the device, when the content is lost, and/or when the CPE device crashes.

Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein provide a computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for managing memory in a shared environment. Upon receiving a file open event associated with a file, a tag value is generated based on the attributes of the file. Upon receiving a file read or write event associated with the file, a memory object is created to hold data associated with the file. The tag value is associated with the memory object. The tag value and the associated memory object are provided to a virtual hosting platform layer as hints to the underlying page coalescing mechanisms.

Abstract: A software interface to increase the efficiency for reading, abstracting of information and locating material within an electron publication, pursuant to which author content and/or researcher content may be quickly searched, accessed and stored on an academic tool utilizing e-book technology. Topic mapping tools may be further used to enhance searching to link and cross reference terminology. For example, such tools are described in ISO/IEC 13250:2000 and more recently extended into XML format in XTM specifications. W3C® standards, such as DAML+OIL and topic map standards as well as functionally similar standards may also be utilized.

Abstract: Relative to a given product or products, one or more attributes and, for each attribute, a plurality of possible attribute values, are defined. For a given product and attribute, one or more descriptions of the product are obtained and analyzed to determine the correspondence of the description(s), and hence the product itself, to each of the plurality of possible attribute values. In one embodiment, this analysis is based on previously-labeled training data. A knowledge base can be populated with information identifying the products and their correspondence to the plurality of possible attribute values for each attribute. This technique may be used to develop a profile of an entity, which in turn may be used to develop appropriate marketing messages or recommendations for other products.

Abstract: A statement is provided having a clause that can specify an aggregate function that is performed on a set of data. The statement may alter the data in the data set by deleting or updating the data. The clause may be a returning clause that accepts one or more aggregate functions for its arguments, operates on the set of data, and returns the result of the aggregate function without returning the entire set of data. Alternatively, a statement is provided for changing multiple sets of data without the need to place the multiple sets in a single array.

Abstract: When a sub-archive device is newly added, a policy related to an archive method is set in the sub-archive device according to information of addition from the sub-archive devices. The sub-archive device added is linked to a main archive device. Uniform management of a location of each data file archived in the main archive device and the sub-archive device added is performed based on the information of addition. When a retrieval request for a data file is received from an external unit, a location of the data file is retrieved, and a retrieval result is informed to the external device.

Abstract: Methods for consolidating databases while maintaining data integrity are disclosed. A source database and target database are compared, and consolidated, and the consolidated databases are used. In other examples, a database is split to support divested entities.
