  • Patent number: 10299077
Abstract: A server including data loading, data analysis, transformation and cleaning (TAC), and position estimation modules. The data loading module loads original position data (OPD) sets. OPD points of the OPD sets refer to positions of a wireless device in communication with a wireless station. The data loading module loads each OPD set based on an identifier of the wireless station in a corresponding one of the OPD sets. The data analysis module: determines an overall bounding area based on the OPD points; divides the overall bounding area into minimum bounding areas; and assigns the OPD points to the minimum bounding areas. The TAC module: transforms and cleans some of the OPD points to provide updated points, such that the updated points have a less number of points than the some of the OPD points. The position estimation module estimates a position of the wireless device based on the updated points.

  • Patent number: 10237907
Abstract: An apparatus and method in a heterogeneous wireless communication system reconnect a Mobile Station (MS) to a previously connected cell upon occurrence of a Radio Link Failure (RLF) in a current cell when a portion of a coverage of the second cell is included in a coverage of the first cell. A Mobile Station (MS) stores system information of a first Base Station (BS) of a first cell when performing handover from the first cell to a second cell. When changed system information of the first BS is received from a second BS of the second cell, the MS updates the stored system information using the changed system information. When detecting that a connection with the second cell is lost prior to a handover from the second cell, the MS performs reconnection to the first BS using the stored system information.

  • Patent number: 8116292
Abstract: A method implemented in a wireless communication system including a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a Node-B and a radio network controller (RNC) for quantizing multiplexed data allowed by grants to closely match a selected enhanced uplink transport format combination (E-TFC) transport block size is disclosed. The amount of scheduled and non-scheduled data allowed to be transmitted is quantized so that the amount of data multiplexed into an enhanced uplink (EU) medium access control (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) more closely matches the selected E-TFC transport block size. In an embodiment, the amount of buffered data allowed to be multiplexed by at least one grant, (a serving grant and/or a non-serving grant), is quantized so that the sum of scheduled and non-scheduled data including MAC header and control information multiplexed into a MAC-e PDU more closely matches the selected E-TFC transport block size.

  • Patent number: 8036205
Abstract: A wireless terminal using OFDM signaling supporting both terrestrial and satellite base station connectivity operates using conventional access probe signaling in a first mode of operation to establish a timing synchronized wireless link with a terrestrial base station. In a second mode of operation, used to establish a timing synchronized wireless link with a satellite base station, a slightly modified access protocol is employed. The round trip signaling time and timing ambiguity between a wireless terminal and a satellite base station is substantially greater than with a terrestrial base station. The modified access protocol uses coding of access probe signals to uniquely identify a superslot index within a beaconslot. The modified protocol uses multiple access probes with different timing offsets to further resolve timing ambiguity and allows the satellite base station access monitoring interval to remain small in duration.

  • Patent number: 8023953
Abstract: A hotspot access point enables a mobile wireless device to resume a service with a network server when service is interrupted by the mobile device moving out of the coverage area of the access point. A short-range communication link is established by the access point with the mobile device based on a local identification of the device. The access point requests additional information from the wireless device. The additional information relates to a wide area network identification of the device. The mobile device transmits additional information to the access point which stores the local area identification and additional identification. The access point transmits to the mobile device a coded identificator of the wireless device based upon the local area identification and a network identification of the device. The access point determines whether service with the mobile device is open and establishes a wide area connection with the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 7970348
Abstract: A solution is disclosed for minimizing the amount of hardware and hardware accuracy requirements to simultaneously give the feature of both cell and narrow beams transmission, while enabling methods for capacity/coverage increase. The main property utilized by the present invention for maintaining cell-coverage pattern control, when radiating information in two simultaneous beams, is to use orthogonal polarization states for the two beams. The two orthogonal polarization states may for instance constitute linear polarization slanted at +45° and ?45°, respectively. The dedicated broadcast transmission needs to be conveyed defining the total cell coverage area. The total cell coverage area is matched by the coverage of the two fixed narrow-beams. The broadcast signal transmission is divided into two signal streams/paths, one for each of the two fixed narrow-beams (no coherency requirements existing between the two parallel signal streams/paths).

  • Patent number: 7907586
Abstract: A method for determining a transmission parameter at an interface between nodes of a transmission system for a specific channel, where there exist a plurality of channels between the nodes serving either for communication between the nodes or for communication with a subscriber, first determines whether the transmission parameter relates to a protocol for communication between nodes or a protocol for communication with the subscriber. If the protocol is for communication between nodes, then the particular protocol is determined by analyzing octets of data and awarding points to one or the other of such protocols, the protocol with the most points corresponding to the transmission parameter. If the protocol is for communication with the subscriber, then the particular protocol corresponding to the transmission parameter is determined by analyzing length of header information data, direction of data flow and number of bits in a specified location.
