  • Patent number: 4705114
Abstract: A subsea system for transmitting a multiphase flow of hydrocarbons produced from a subsea well positioned remotely from fluid storing and treating facilities. The system includes a subsea well template which encloses a plurality of well heads. A composite hydrocarbon flow is manifolded from the respective wells and conducted to a fluid separator which causes the composite stream to separate into discrete liquid and vaporous flows. The latter are then conducted through a multi-conductor riser to the treating and storage facility.

  • Patent number: 4705426
Abstract: A security and defense barrier which comprises a vault buried within and transverse to the roadway. The vault has within a latched plurality of barrier arms that may be raised by any powered means, or manually, and the raised barrier arms being positioned within the vault so that impact forces are transmitted directly to the vault, and to a foundation, and little or no load is supported by a pivoting mechanism. Being very strong, the barrier can be made capable of stopping a speeding vehicle. The raised barrier arms have a hook on the end so that a speeding vehicle attacking the barrier will be snagged, and prevented from inadvertently or intentionally vaulting the barrier.

  • Patent number: 4702062
Abstract: Windrow shaping apparatus which is attachable to an existing rake for shaping forage windrows. The apparatus includes an attachment member for affixing the apparatus to a rake; a yoke pivotally engaging the attachment member; and a drum for engaging the forage in the windrow. The yoke and drum are supported at a desired height above ground level and at an inward angle so that the drum engages the top and side portions of the windrow to force the forage down and toward the center of the windrow. The drum includes a plurality of parallel spaced rods about the periphery of the drum to prevent excessive compacting and to prevent adherence of the forage to the drum. A second embodiment of the invention includes two drums carried by separate yokes, the drums both being inwardly inclined toward one another and obliquely placed, one in front of the other so as to overlap for simultaneous shaping of the forage on each side of the windrow without compaction between drums.

  • Patent number: 4702327
Abstract: In the preferred and illustrated embodiment of the core sample bullet construction, a multi-piece construction is set forth. There is a forward, or removable, nose portion. It nests with and connects to a carrier portion. The two portions together define an elongate central bore formed in multiple portions, and the bore is open through the rear of the carrier. At the rear, a separate and removable bottom cap is plugged into the carrier portion and the two are joined together at the time of assembly, before firing. A release ring is included on the outer face of the nose portion and protects the shoulder of the carrier portion, engaging the formation upon entry, and is sacrifically abandoned; the ring is a mechanism for releasing the nose portion whereby retraction is easily obtained; the release ring includes drilling mud and debris relieving notches formed in the inside diameter.

  • Patent number: 4701153
Abstract: A double-action belt intended for use with speed varying devices of the type having pulleys of variable diameter is constructed of many rigid trapezoidal elements that are articulated one to another at their bases. The rigid elements all have a central opening through which an elastic member extends. The rigid elements are strung in a closed loop along the elastic member with each element being held captive by the stretchable elastic member. The sides of the rigid trapezoidal elements which are opposite the articulated base carry protruding flanges. Those protruding flanges abut when the rigid elements are pressed together and cause the central portions of contiguous rigid elements to be spaced apart to accommodate those segments of the elastic member situated between contiguous rigid elements.

  • Patent number: 4697653
Abstract: A diamond cutting tooth for use in a petroleum drag bit is provided with an extended and expanded effective diamond cutting surface by providing a linear sequence of triangular prismatic, synthetic, polycrystalline, diamond cutting elements generally along the line of direction of cutting within each tooth. Each element is offset from the preceding element in the sequence in a direction nonparallel to the line of cutting. More particularly, equilateral triangular prismatic diamond elements are laid within a V-shaped groove within a mold from which the cutting tooth is molded through conventional infiltration matrix techniques. The apical opening of the groove is 70 degrees, whereas the apical extent of each of the triangular apexes is 60 degrees. Each triangular element is laid on one side or other of the longitudinal groove.

  • Patent number: 4697641
Abstract: The cable head provides an H.sub.2 S resistant assembly which includes a weak link therein substantially isolated from any stress other than tensile stress induced by the logging cable. The cable head also provides a fishing neck at the top of the tool string after the weak link is severed and the wireline retrieved. Moreover, the logging cable is positively secured to the cable head by a force-fit wedge, and the design thereof ensures that parting of the weak link also provides for a positive mechanical disengagement of the logging cable from the cable head. Finally, an external sinker bar has been provided which mounts externally of the cable head, surrounding the logging cable above the cable head and mechanically interlocking therewith; such sinker bars may be run above the cable head in series, each interlocking with the one below it.

  • Patent number: 4696502
Abstract: A dual string packer is milled by a mill having an annular milling shoe for milling the periphery of the packer and freeing it from the well bore. An axial milling head mills a central hole in the top of the packer before the annular shoe reaches the locking segments. A grapple above the milling head engages the walls of the axial hole to support the remains of the packer in the well. The grapple includes a release ring that can be broken in tension to release the packer mill from a stuck packer if need be. The grapple has a gripper sleeve with longitudinally extending fingers and a camming sleeve for camming the fingers outwardly. An expandable ring inside the camming sleeve provides means for withdrawing the camming sleeve from the gripper sleeve if it should stick.
