Abstract: A lift chair has a lift base, a seat, and an extensible and retractable power-actuated ram connected between the lift base and seat to selectively raise and lower the seat. One or another accessory base provided with accessories such as a rocker or wheel assembly is also connected to the seat and is positioned to contact the floor before the ram is fully retracted so that the full retraction of the ram lifts the lift base off the floor and transfers the entire weight of the chair to the accessory base. When the ram is extended, the initial extension of the ram reseats the lift base on the floor and lifts the accessory base off the floor, thus transferring the weight of the chair from the accessory base back to the lift base, which supports and stabilizes the chair during the lifting thereof and until the ram is fully retracted again.

Abstract: A head support for seat backrests, especially of motor vehicle seats, which is adapted to be displaced from a rest or non-use position impairing as little as possible the visibility, for instance, of the driver toward the side of the vehicle or toward the rear of the vehicle, into an effective position; the movement of the head support thereby takes place automatically in dependence on the load on and removal of the load from the seat.

Abstract: An educational puzzle chair for children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years of age. The chair includes two identical sides, a brace, two identical wedges, a back and a step. The chair is assembled by interlocking its parts in a predetermined manner and order without the use of any fastening elements or tools. All pieces except the sides are reversible. The components of the chair can be stored in a minimum amount of space and can be placed in a small container for easy carrying. The chair is durable and economical to produce.

Abstract: Tray for wheel chairs or the like is supported by cantilever suspension, on knobs of which those on one side are movable by one-handed manipulation in a direction away from the attached ends of said knobs, to permit easy installation on, and removal from, said chair.

Abstract: A furniture structure utilizes a joint which allows three elongated members to be coupled orthogonally. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the joint is utilized in a chair in which a first elongated member is a side rail, a second elongated member is a brace, and a third elongated member is one leg of the chair. The first member, which forms the side rail, has oppositely facing notches in each end thereof. A projecting tongue is formed between the oppositely-facing notches. The second member, which forms a brace, has a threaded insert therein and is received in one of the oppositely-facing notches in the first member. The third member, which forms a leg, has a notch therein and is received in the other oppositely-facing notch of the first member, while the tongue of the first member is received in the notch of the third member. A machine screw is passed through the third and first members and is screwed into the threaded insert of the second member to hold all three members together.

Abstract: In a die casting technique, a first element is die cast with a cavity formed by a core, the first element having an interlocking surface such as a projection or shaped aperture. The core is then removed, and a second element is cast to extend into alignment with the cavity, employing the interlocking surface of the first element for a portion of the die in the formation of the second element. The second element is thereby interlocked with the first element to form a unitary article. The unitary article may be in the form of a hanger adaptable for use in extending a cord for suspending an object. The hanger has a body portion with a hole extending therethrough, one end of the hole being enlarged for receiving and holding therein the knot of a cord. A loop shaped portion of the hanger extends over the enlarged end of the hole. The loop shaped portion is rigidly affixed to the body portion, and serves as a hook.

Abstract: A self-locking folding leg arrangement which enables extending the leg and automatically locking the leg when the extended position is reached, enables quickly releasing the leg by withdrawing the leg lock against the action of its spring, assures rigidity by virtue of the cooperation of a flange which limits the extent of extension of the leg, while the lock prevents return movement of the leg toward its folded position, and facilitates unlatching or unlocking the leg for folding by virtue of a finger tab on the lock. The leg and lock are each pivotally mounted on parallel axes closely adjacent to and on the same side of a generally flat plate adapted to be secured to the underside of a horizontal support member such as a work bench top or sawhorse top.

Abstract: The invention relates to a shelving system which has at least two elongated corner posts, each post being adapted to assume a vertically upright position and each post being horizontally spaced from the other posts. The system also includes at least one shelving unit having at least two corners, the shelving unit being adapted to be mounted in a generally horizontal attitude between the posts with respective corners of the shelving unit being adjacent respective corner posts. In accordance with the invention, each post comprises a plurality of sets of holding means, the sets being spaced along the length of said posts. Each shelving unit has at the corners thereof, mating holding means for matingly engaging with selected ones of the holding means at its respective corner posts. Thus, the shelving unit can be detachably and holdingly mounted on said corner posts at different positions thereof.

Abstract: A modular seating arrangement comprises a plurality of interconnected bases, each defining a pair of female sockets therein. A seat, disposed on the base, has a pair of releasable male fasteners secured thereon which engage within the female sockets. Each male fastener comprises an elongated member having a bifurcated end defining a pair of split locking portions which are expanded into interlocking relationship within a respective one of the female sockets. Back, arm and/or table components may be secured on the base to complete the modular seating arrangement.

Abstract: A chair construction of two separate yet complementary members. The first member includes two symmetrical, oppositely facing and substantially parallel side pieces held rigidly in relative position. A backrest may be provided by a first series of parallel and spaced apart slats which are secured rigidly and aligned transversely to even forward edges of the parallel side pieces of the first member. The first member also includes structure defining a gap below the backrest which has a vertical height generally the same as the depth of the side pieces. The gap is further defined by two transverse slats attached to rear edges of the side pieces. The second member includes two elongated side pieces which are substantially symmetrical with the side pieces of the first member and which are spaced apart for a distance sufficiently less than the side pieces of the first member so that the side pieces of the second member fit closely inside the side pieces of the first member.

Abstract: The invention is a space frame seat assembly that has utility as an automobile bench seat or the like, said assembly comprising a unitary space frame that can be injection molded in a simple two piece mold, said frame comprising a plurality of unique, repetitive structural cells, said frame being reinforced in a sandwich construction and having integral or detachable spring structure wherein the entire assembly is further foamed in place to create the finished assembly.

Abstract: An inverted L-shaped metal strip bracket member hangs from an upper window trim board or the like and has a plurality of vertically spaced elongated horizontal slots within the lower end permitting a second metal strip hanger bar to be insertably received within one of the slots with one portion facing inwardly of the bracket in contact with the bottom of the window frame while the other portion projects outwardly of the bracket for suspending a flower pot at its outer end.

Abstract: An elevationally adjustable folding stage with simplified one-man adjustment of height. The stage has two rectangular stage portions which are pivotable towards each other to a vertical storage position centered over a base frame containing main support legs. Outer support legs attached to the outer ends of the two stage members are adjustable in length. Auxiliary support legs which are longer than the main support legs are mounted to the undersides of the two stage members adjacent the main support legs. For lower stage position, the auxiliary legs are folded up, and for the higher stage position the auxiliary legs are brought to their extended position while the stage members are folded. As the stage members are brought down to their horizontal position, a rocking action about the extended auxiliary leg lifts the stage to the upper position. The auxiliary legs and outer legs are optionally extendable to another higher position.

Abstract: An arm structure for a reclining seat such as those used on planes, buses, and train coaches, in which one or both of the arms are adjustable between a substantially horizontal position when the back is in upright position and a horizontal or fully down position when the back of the seat is in a reclined position. A latch mechanism holds the arm in the various positions and is released to move the arm to any one of the positions by pulling the arm forwardly and moving it to a selected position. The arm can be lifted to any one of the positions by merely lifting the arm which snaps successively into the various positions as it is pivotally raised. The latch mechanism holds the arm rigidly in position with respect to any pressure applied downwardly thereon by the arm of the occupant of the seat. The arm rest may have one of a number of different types of upholstery or covering to match the covering on the seat.

Abstract: A convectively air-ventilated furniture comprises an elongated and hollow member having a lower end with an air inlet opening thereat and an upper end with an air exit opening thereat. A massive and elongated convective air channel extends from the air inlet opening to the air exit opening inside the hollow member. The contact areas between the user of the furniture and the top surface of the member are thermally conductive so that the body heat of the user heats up the air inside the hollow member thereby, through chimney effect, initiating and maintaining in the air channel a convective air current directed from the air inlet opening toward the air exit opening and substantially increasing the rate of heat transfer between the user and the air inside the hollow member.
