Patent number: 4068813Abstract: A tie-down method and apparatus are disclosed which facilitate automated, resilient securing of wheeled vehicles to shipping pallets or the floors of containers. Four links are detachably pivoted to the vehicle frame. Rollers at the lower ends of the links engage rails on the pallet or floor as the vehicle is moved into place by cooperating support equipment. The forward rollers engage spring loaded stops carried by the rails. The aft rollers are forced along the rails toward the forward rollers and the angling of the links compresses the vehicle springs and tires and the spring loaded stops. Lock-stops are set in place behind the rear rollers to secure the vertically and longitudinally resilient tie-down.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1976Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Maurice Stephen Chatwin, George Zell Porter

Patent number: 4065182Abstract: The supporting members of a vehicle seat includes a molded plastic seat bottom support member and a molded plastic seat back support member. Cushion members for mounting on the support members include a cushion bun of resilient foam and a seat cover for enveloping the cushion bun. The seat cover has an opening in the underside thereof which permits insertion of the cushion bun when the cushion bun is compressed. A resilient retainer wire extends around the opening and is attached to the edges of the seat cover by J-shaped plastic hook strips so that the resilience of the foam bun exerts tension of the retainer wire. The retainer wire has a plurality of abutment structures integral therewith and adapted for mating engagement with corresponding abutments provided on the seat support members when the cushion member is forcibly stressed to flex the retainer wire.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1976Date of Patent: December 27, 1977Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 4057289Abstract: A reclining chair capable of rocking movement upon its base which may be arranged in a position closely adjacent the wall of the room. A carriage is mounted upon the stationary base of the chair assembly for forward and rearward sliding movement upon the base. The chair frame is rockably mounted upon the carriage and supports in turn, by conventional reclining linkage, the reclining seat and back portions of the assembly. A translation linkage, actuated by the reclining linkage, is employed to shift the carriage and chair frame forwardly on the base in response to reclining movement of the seat and back so that the back does not strike the wall as it reclines. The translation linkage may be uncoupled from the chair base when it is desired to rock the chair. Upon uncoupling the translation linkage, the carriage and chair frame slide forwardly by gravity upon the base to thereby provide clearance from the wall to accommodate rocking movement.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1976Date of Patent: November 8, 1977Inventor: W.
