  • Patent number: 11617687
Abstract: The methods herein relate to assembling an elastic laminate with a first elastic material and a second elastic material bonded between first and second substrates. During assembly, an elastic laminate may be formed by positioning the first and second substrates in contact with stretched central regions of the first and second elastic materials. The elastic laminates may include two or more bonding regions that may be defined by the various layers or components of the elastic laminate that are laminated or stacked relative to each other. In some configurations, a first plurality of ultrasonic bonds are applied to the elastic laminate to define a first bond density in the first bonding region, and a second plurality of ultrasonic bonds are applied to the elastic laminate to define a second bond density in the second bonding region, wherein the second bond density is not equal to the first bond density.

  • Patent number: 11602904
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for joining a metal component and a polymer component, and a structure comprising said components. In the method, an extrusion die plate with a through hole is placed between the metal component and the polymer component. A probe is rotated and plunged across the thickness of the metal component and eventually through said through hole of the extrusion die plate, thereby extruding a part of the metal component through said through hole of the extrusion die plate into the polymer component. The probe has a rotation axis having an offset to the centre of the through hole during the rotating and plunging action.

  • Patent number: 11596557
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Methods herein may include an anvil adapted to rotate about an axis of rotation, wherein first and second spreader mechanisms adjacent the anvil roll are axially and angularly displaced from each other with respect to the axis of rotation. During the assembly process, a substrate may be advanced in a machine direction onto the rotating anvil. The first spreader mechanism stretches a first elastic material in the cross direction, and the second spreader mechanism stretches a second elastic material in the cross direction. The stretched first and second elastic materials advance from the spreader mechanisms and onto the substrate on the anvil roll. The combined and elastic materials may then be ultrasonically bonded together on the anvil to form at least one elastic laminate.

  • Patent number: 11597163
Abstract: A method for connecting two components. In this method, a first component and a second component, which are each formed from a thermoplastic material, are first provided. The first component has a first peel-off ply on a first surface of the first component. The first peel-off ply is removed from the first component. Once the first peel-off ply has been removed, the first surface of the first component is brought into contact with a second surface of the second component. The first component and the second component are then welded to one another at the first and second surface by ultrasonic welding.

  • Patent number: 11541608
Abstract: A welding apparatus is suitable for welding polymeric materials, and particularly but not exclusively those that may be thin or brittle. A welding apparatus is provided for welding polymeric materials along a weld zone of the polymeric material. The welding apparatus has a carrier for supplying heat to the weld zone to cause melting of the polymeric material, wherein the heating element is arranged to reciprocate relative to the carrier between a retracted and an extended configuration, such that as the element moves from the retracted to the extended configuration the heating element melts and penetrates the surface of the polymeric material. The carrier also has a trailing contact surface trailing the heating element along the weld zone arranged to constrain molten polymeric material in the weld zone. The heating element is also arranged to reciprocate relative to the trailing contact surface.

  • Patent number: 11498284
Abstract: The invention relates to a welding tool and to a method for pulse welding of plastic films for medical packs formed as bags. In general, the invention provides that the film material which is plastified during welding and thus free-flowing is specifically displaced into a deepened, edge-side inner region of the sealing surface by increasing the sealing surface area. The film material accumulated in the recess leads to an increase in the film thickness in the inner region (25i) of the weld seam (6, 7, 8). As a result, the mechanical stability of the medical pack formed as a bag can be improved.

  • Patent number: 11485122
Abstract: Multilayer Films have a first skin layer that is prepared from a high density polyethylene and a second skin layer (also referred to as the sealant layer) that is prepared from a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) having a density of from 0.90 to 0.92 g/cc and a Dilution Index, Yd, of greater than 0°. Seals can be prepared by placing two pieces of this film against each other such that the sealant layers are in contact with each other, then applying heat to at least one high density skin layer such that heat is transmitted/conducted through the multilayer film in a sufficient amount to melt the sealant layer and form a seal. The use of LLDPE having a Dilution Index of greater than 0° has been found to improve the sealing performance of multilayer films in comparison to multilayer films where the sealant layer is a conventional LLDPE having a Dilution Index of less than 0°.
