  • Patent number: 9437935
Abstract: A dual band printed antenna pair operates simultaneously at both WLAN frequency bands (2.4 GHz/5 GHz). The antenna pair provides high isolation between both antennas while having an efficient over the air performance. The antenna pair achieve greater than 20 dB isolation at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band, while having antennas positioned in close proximity. The high isolation is accomplished using an orthogonal antenna configuration (exploiting orthogonal polarization) and a parasitic element to further enhance isolation at 2.4 GHz. The antenna pair and parasitic element are printed on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) adding relatively little cost to the Radio Frequency (RF) interface. The PCB is then fixed on top of a metal chassis with the antenna keep out area overhanging a corner of the metal chassis to enhance performance.

  • Patent number: 9427592
Abstract: Techniques are provided for use with implantable medical devices or trial medical devices for wirelessly connecting the devices to external instruments such as tablet computers or smartphones. In an example where the medical device is an implantable neurostimulator, the neurostimulator passively detects wireless wake-up signals generated by the external instrument, i.e. the neurostimulator “sniffs” for advertisement signals generated by the external instrument. In response to passive detection of a wake-up signal, the implantable neurostimulator determines if a response is warranted and, if so, the neurostimulator activates its wireless transmission components to transmit an acknowledgement signal to the external instrument so as to complete a wake-up and handshake protocol.

  • Patent number: 9424725
Abstract: A school perimeter security system includes a registry database. The registry database includes: registered student mobile device identifiers, registered non-student mobile device identifiers, and a matching of students with authorized non-students with whom the students are permitted to be paired with near the perimeter. At least three beacon devices are located within the school perimeter, positioned to establish a boundary area near the perimeter, detect and establish communication with mobile devices entering the boundary area, obtain an identifier from each mobile device that enters the boundary area, and facilitate trilateration of all mobile devices within the boundary area. The processor and beacon devices cooperatively interact to identify every mobile device entering the boundary area, track the location of every mobile device within the boundary area, compare the identified mobile devices with identifiers in the registry database and, transmit an alert notice when a condition is satisfied.

  • Patent number: 9419674
Abstract: Shared filters may be used for both transmit and receive paths. In an exemplary design, an apparatus (e.g., a wireless device, an integrated circuit, or a circuit module) may include a filter and a switch. The filter operates as a transmit (TX) filter for a first band and as a receive (RX) filter for a second band. The filter may receive and filter an output radio frequency (RF) signal when operating as the TX filter and may receive and filter a received RF signal when operating as the RX filter. The switch is coupled to the filter and receives and passes the output RF signal to the filter or an input RF signal from the filter. The apparatus may further include a second filter operable as a TX filter for multiple bands and/or a third filter operable as an RX filter for multiple bands.

  • Patent number: 9396652
Abstract: A connection node provides a high bandwidth connection on demand to mobile units that are in need of increased bandwidth for data transfers. In this manner, the connection node can supplement the bandwidth available to a mobile unit so that large volumes of data can be communicated to and from the mobile unit. A movable antenna automatically focuses its reception area on the mobile unit's location, after which, a high bandwidth connection can be established for high-speed data transfer. The high bandwidth connection is maintained, such as by tracking the mobile unit with the antenna, even if the mobile unit is moving.

  • Patent number: 9397621
Abstract: A switch-mode RFPA driver includes first and second field-effect transistors (FETs) arranged in a totem-pole-like configuration. The switch-mode RFPA driver operates to generate a switch-mode RFPA drive signal having a generally square-wave-like waveform from an input RF signal having a generally sinusoidal-like waveform. To maximize high-frequency operation and avoid distorting the switch-mode RFPA drive signal, the switch-mode RFPA driver is designed so that its output can be connected directly to the input of the switch-mode RFPA to be driven, i.e., without using or requiring the use of an AC coupling capacitor. The first and second FETs of the switch-mode RFPA driver are designed and configured to limit and control the upper and lower magnitude levels of the switch-mode RFPA drive signal to levels suitable for switching the switch-mode RFPA directly, obviating any need for DC biasing at the input of the switch-mode RFPA.

  • Patent number: 9394740
Abstract: Systems and techniques are presented for enabling fail-safe operation of an automatic pedestrian access control gate during a health and safety event. Gateline sensor data is received from at least one gateline sensor. The gateline sensor data indicates that an event concerning health and safety has occurred. An alert is generated in response to receiving the gateline sensor data. The alert is transmitted to a remote monitoring device that is remote from the access control gate. A determination is made that a preset amount of time has elapsed since transmitting the alert. A further determination is made that an acknowledgement of the alert has not been received. Based on determining that the preset amount of time has elapsed and determining that the acknowledgement has not been received, a predefined action is triggered.

  • Patent number: 9378636
Abstract: A fall detector unit is worn by a patient and performs a wakeup when an acceleration signal exceeds a predetermined threshold. A barometer provides a series of pressure readings over a pressure examination period to provide a first pressure difference value. The pressure signals are further monitored over a compensation period after the examination period to obtain a second pressure difference value representing background environmental changes. The first pressure difference value is compensated by the second pressure difference value to obtain a total pressure difference value and thus derive a total height difference value. The fall detector unit determines a fall event using the total height difference value.

  • Patent number: 9379861
Abstract: A radio base station apparatus wherein even when a single-base-station transmission and a plural-base-station cooperative transmission are implemented at the same time, the terminal-to-base-station feedback information amount and the inter-cell interference (ICI) can be reduced. A base station uses a first transmission mode, in which only the base station implements a signal transmission, and a second transmission mode, in which the base station implements a cooperative signal transmission together with another radio base station apparatus, to communicate with one or more radio terminal apparatuses. A setting unit sets, as a particular frequency band whose reception quality is to be measured, one of first and second frequency bands that are parts of a band used for communication with the terminals. A deciding unit decides, as the transmission mode for the terminals, one of the first and second transmissions based on the reception quality of the particular frequency band.
