  • Patent number: 6485284
Abstract: A gas-assisted flow and filling device for transporting particulate material and filling die cavities includes a source of low-pressure gas for delivering gas to a chamber that is separated from a fluidizing chamber by a porous distributor plate which permits the gas to flow through the particulate material and out a vent screen so that the particulate material is permitted to flow out of the fluidizing chamber essentially free of gas and wherein the pressure of the gas delivered to the fluidizing chamber is sufficient to provide a gas bearing to said particulate material adjacent the distributor plate, but not high enough to cause turbulence in said fluidizing chamber.

  • Patent number: 6481996
Abstract: A tapered running block and corresponding tapered cavity blocks are utilized in a mold for fabricating relatively thin, flat plastic cards, such as used for pre-paid telephone cards and the like. The mating surfaces of the runner block and the cavity block are angularly tapered; so that metal-to-metal contact is made between the runner block and the cavity block when the mold is in the plastic injection position. As soon as relative movement of the runner block and the cavity block is effected to part the blocks and separate the cards from the runners, the tapered 1surfaces move away from one another without any sliding contact, thereby significantly reducing wear in the mold.

  • Patent number: 6482345
Abstract: A golf ball having a cover composed of a polyurethane formed from a p-phenylene diisocyanate (PPDI) based polyurethane prepolymer is disclosed herein. The PPDI-based polyurethane prepolymer is formed from a PPDI and a polyol such as polycaprolactone. The PPDI-based polyurethane prepolymer is cured with a curative such as a 1,4 butane diol and glycol. The PPDI-based polyurethane cover may be either thermoset or thermoplastic. The PPDI-based polyurethane cover has a high flexural modulus at a lower hardness which gives a better feel yet maintains good distance, higher Bashore resilience, higher tensile strength, higher tear resistance, improved elongation, and better playability and control. These benefits and improvements are exhibited even though the cover of the present invention is thinner than those of conventional golf balls. The present invention also provides new golf balls having durable thin covers thereby enabling golf balls with large cores.

  • Patent number: 6478568
Abstract: A method and apparatus for compression molding plastic articles such as closures include a plurality of tools mounted in opposed pairs with the tools of each pair including opposed male and female mold sections. The tool pairs are mounted for motion in an endless path. The tool pairs and associated mold sections are closed during motion in the path for compression a molding charge in the mold cavity formed between the mold sections of each pair, and opening the mold cavity to release an article formed between the mold sections. A latch mechanism is associated with each pair of tools for holding the tools and mold sections in the closed position during motion in the path independent of the mechanism for closing the tools and mold halves. In this way, forces imparted to the mold halves and tools to hold the mold closed are isolated from the machine frame. The latch mechanism is selectively unlatched to permit opening of the mold halves and release of the article compression-molded between the mold halves.

  • Patent number: 6478567
Abstract: A three piece nozzle assembly for injecting molten plastic in an injection molding machine carrying out a high pressure, high volume continuous molding process to mold thin walled parts. A nozzle housing has an internally threaded dual diameter bore in one end which receives in one bore portion an externally threaded shank of a nozzle. A sleeve is threaded into the other bore portion and is tightened adjacent to a flange on the nozzle shank to lock the nozzle to the housing and prevent the pressure of the injection molding from working the nozzle loose from the housing. A gap is formed between the sleeve and nozzle shank to reduce the thermal effects.

  • Patent number: 6478566
Abstract: A middle liner of a slide guide device for a machine press has a spherical shaped side which fits into a sliding gib attached to a slide. The middle liner slides along a fixed gib at first and second linear surfaces that are at an angle with each other. The combination of self-alignment and smooth movement of the slide is achieved in the presence of an eccentric load acting on the slide. A machine press equipped with such a slide guide device has excellent eccentric load resistance and high working precision. In a further embodiment, a press machine is further equipped with a knockout device having knockout block moving between a pair of guide rails. A plurality of middle liners, each having at least one spherical surface, are positioned between the knockout block and the guide rails. The resulting knockout device provides a stable knockout load with low noise and low energy consumption.
