Abstract: This invention relates to the preparation of allyl vinylacetate esters via the catalytic carbonylation of allylic alcohols. The esters are produced in good yield and selectivity using empirically selected 3-component homogeneous palladium dihalide catalysts consisting essentially of 1) palladium(II) halides stabilized with 2) one or more Group VB donor ligands, and 3) in combination with Group IVB metal halide cocatalysts such as tin(II) halides, tin(IV) halides and germanium(II) halides. An improvement in shorter reaction times, increased yields and selectivity over what has been reported in the literature has been found to be attributable to the use of applicant's catalysts rather than the catalysts used in the art.
Abstract: Perfluorocarboxylic acids are produced by a metathesis reaction between an acid and a perfluoro acid fluoride (acyl fluoride). The perfluoroacyl fluoride can conveniently be produced by electrochemical fluorination of the acyl fluoride co-product of the metathesis step. As an alternate source of carboxylic acid, an acid anhydride can be cleaved with hydrogen fluoride. This also results in production of additional acyl fluoride which can be passed to an electrochemical fluorination cell to be converted to perfluoroacyl fluoride which can be recovered as product or additional free carboxylic acid can be introduced to utilize the extra perfluoroacyl fluoride to produce additional perfluoro acid.
Abstract: When replacing the low molecular mercaptan used as a catalyst in the known process for preparing condensation products of phenols and acetoacetic acid esters by an n-alkyl mercaptan having of from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, the yield is improved and the reaction time reduced, while the working up of the reaction batch is simultaneously improved.
Abstract: Diacylium complexes of tetrahaloterephthalic acid can be produced by reacting tetrahaloterephthalic acid with sulfur trioxide to form compounds capable of reacting with various nucleophilics.

Abstract: Process for the manufacture of practically mercury-free anthraquinonesulphonic acids, characterized in that anthraquinone is sulphonated with sulphuric acid containing SO.sub.3 in the presence of catalysts containing mercury, at elevated temperature, the sulphonation mixture, if appropriate after dilution with water, is subsequently treated with an inorganic or organic compound of divalent sulphur and thereafter, if appropriate following dilution with water, the mercury compounds present in an insoluble form are separated off and the anthraquinonesulphonic acids are then isolated in a known manner.
Abstract: Alkyl or Aralkyl N-[2-aroyl]phenylcarbamates are prepared by reacting a 3-aryl-2-indolinone with oxygen in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide or aralkoxide.

Abstract: Diphenyl phthalates are purified by crystallizing them from dipolar-aprotic solvents or solutions of solvents containing such solvents. The phthalate solutions are advantageously, but not necessarily, treated in a carbon column in hydrocarbon solvent without dipolar-aprotic solvents present to remove part of the color and impurities, and then dipolar-aprotic solvents are added to the solution before crystallization to aid in the final removal of color and impurities.
