    Abstract: Services are provided in an architecture utilizing a framework of standardized interconnection mechanisms that allow for the dynamic addition of new services that meet rules for the distributed services network. Likewise, new agents may readily be added to the network. The network architecture is composed of agent software at the broadband subscriber endpoint in conversation with server software at the service provider location. Under the present architecture, certain minimum service functionality is provided to any subscriber by way of a registration service for new subscribers, a login service for existing subscribers, subscriber profile services, connection services and plug-in management services. Through this network, a subscriber can access these services as well as additional services that are dynamically added to the network.

    Abstract: A system and method for using a wireless browser to send local information from a wireless handset to a Web server. A service request received from a handset user includes the type of local information needed to carry out the request as well as the URL address of the server. The handset confirms that the input is not a telephone number to be dialed. If the input is a telephone number, the browser is terminated and the number is dialed. Otherwise, the browser acquires the local information needed to carry out the request from the handset. The local information is appended to the URL address, which is extracted from the user input, and the browser is instructed to navigate to the URL address to provide the local information to the server.

    Abstract: According to various aspects of the present invention, a technique is described for improving load balancing of traffic in a data network using source-side related information embedded into the destination IP address field of packets received at a load balancing device. One aspect of the present invention relates to assigning more than one virtual IP address to a server cluster in order to enable different clients to select a virtual cluster address which corresponds to each clients' respective rights and/or profiles, and to use the selected virtual cluster address to access a desired site or service. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a mechanism which allows for load balancing operations to be implemented using source-side information which is embedded into the destination IP address of a packet header. In this way, load balancing decisions may be quickly performed at initial or early stages of a connection flow.

As the terminal moves from one subnet of the network to another the care-of-address is changed to reflect the current subnet. Therefore, the input of the name of the mobile terminal (11) identifies via the care-of-address the subnet in which the terminal is currently located. The network is divided with domains each with its own name server (13, 14) as the terminal (11) moves from its home domain to a foreign domain, the name server (14) of that foreign domain may be updated with details of the mobile terminal (11) so that any query to the terminal (11) originating in the foreign domain may be resolved within that foreign domain.
