  • Patent number: 8792052
Abstract: The frame rate of a pause frame of a moving image is detected. The number of frame images of the moving image to be used in a process of increasing the resolution of a low-resolution image is determined such that a larger number of frame images is set for a higher detected frame rate. In a super-resolution process, a high-resolution image is generated using the determined number of continuous frame images including the pause frame of the moving image. This makes it possible to appropriately determine the number of frames to be referred to in the super-resolution process in accordance with the frame rate of a moving image when generating a high-resolution image from the frames of a low-resolution moving image.

  • Patent number: 8786711
Abstract: Provided is an image quality evaluation system for evaluating quality of an image. The image quality evaluation system includes bit extraction means and image quality evaluation means. For predetermined data expressing an image frame of a first image, the bit extraction means extracts a predetermined number of bits which is smaller than the number of bits required for expressing one data piece. By using a value expressed by the bit string extracted by the bit extraction means and a value of data equivalent to the data to be extracted from the bit string in a second image, the image quality evaluation means estimates a difference between the first image and the second image and evaluates the image quality of the first to image or the second image.

  • Patent number: 8717499
Abstract: Systems and methods of measuring a temporal offset between audio content and video content that employ audio fingerprints from an audio signal in the audio content, and video fingerprints from video frames in the video content. The systems obtain reference audio and video fingerprints prior to transmission of video over a media channel, and obtain target audio and video fingerprints subsequent to transmission of the video over the media channel. Each fingerprint has an associated time stamp. Using the reference and target audio fingerprints and their associated time stamps, the systems determine an audio time stamp offset. Using the reference and target video fingerprints and their associated time stamps, the systems determine a video time stamp offset. Using the audio and video time stamp offsets, the systems determine a temporal offset between the video content and the audio content introduced by the media channel.

  • Patent number: 8665378
Abstract: A filter for a video stream is provided. The filter generates a filtered picture according to a current picture and its previous picture. A motion difference calculator accumulates differences between current picture values and previous picture values within a neighborhood of each pixel to provide a corresponding motion difference. A histogram counter performs histogram counting according to motion differences of the pixels. A filter value calculator provides a filter value for each pixel according to operations of the motion difference calculator and the histogram counter. A blender blends the current picture value and the previous picture value of each pixel according to weightings correlated to the filter value, and provides a filtered picture value for each pixel of the filtered picture.

  • Patent number: 8654258
Abstract: A method and system for detecting and estimating noise in a video signal. For example, detail edges may be identified in a plurality of pixels, wherein each detail edge has an edge magnitude value. The detail edges in the plurality of pixels may be identified by: determining one or more directionality values for the plurality of pixels by passing the input video signal through at least one directional filter, and identifying the detail edges by assigning edge magnitude values based on whether the one or more directionality values exceed predetermined threshold levels. An edge map of the detail edges may be created, where the edge map is configured to indicate areas of the plurality of pixels to be considered or ignored in estimating the noise in the input video signal. The noise in the input video signal may then be estimated based on the indicated areas of the edge map.

  • Patent number: 8643792
Abstract: A rear projection imaging system with an image warping distortion correction system using a camera and processing unit to generate a warping map that corrects for image distortion. The warping map is generated in an iterative process by displaying a known pattern on a viewing screen and, through the use of a camera, having a microprocessor determine the location and shape of the pattern on the screen. The microprocessor then compares the displayed image to the original reference image, calculates the distortion effects present in the projection optics, and generates a warping map.
