  • Patent number: 10043289
Abstract: One aspect determines centroids of a plenoptic image, which correspond to the center view of the plenoptic image. A search band spanning a range of different values along a search direction (e.g., range of ?y) is determined. Multiple slices of the plenoptic image are taken at different values of the search coordinate (i.e., different y values). Because the plenoptic image has a periodic structure imposed by the periodicity of the microlens array, each slice will have a strong frequency component at this fundamental frequency. A slice corresponding to the centroid location (i.e., value of y at the centroid) is selected based on analysis of these frequency components. In one approach, the slice with the weakest component at this fundamental frequency is selected as the centroid. A similar approach can be performed in the orthogonal direction to obtain the two-dimensional coordinates of the centroids.

  • Patent number: 10033993
Abstract: A system 8 for delivering stereoscopic images for viewing without 3-D glasses being required comprises a video display element 1, an image direction element 4, a front holder element 5, a rear holder element 3, and a resolution enhancement element 2. The video display element 1 outputs a plurality of left-eye images and a plurality of right-eye images. The image direction element 4 directs each left-eye image at a desired left-eye angle and directs each right-eye image at a desired right-eye angle. The front holder element 5 is movable relative to the rear holder element 3 to move the image direction element 4 to adjust each left-eye angle at which each left-eye image is directed and to adjust each right-eye angle at which each right-eye image is directed to suit each viewer. The resolution enhancement element 2 is modulated simultaneously with the image direction element 4.

  • Patent number: 9979953
Abstract: The depth of one or more objects within a scene may be determined utilizing system that includes a single light source, a reflector (e.g., an ellipsoidal reflector), a shutter mechanism associated with the light source, and a camera. More particularly, the light source may output light that is directed towards the scene (a first set of light beams) and towards the reflector (a second set of light beams) utilizing the shutter mechanism. The reflector may reflect the second set of light beams towards the scene. The camera may then capture a first image that corresponds to the first set of light beams and a second image that corresponds to the second set of light beams. The depth of a particular one of the objects within the scene may be determined based at least in part on the first image and the second image.

  • Patent number: 9973811
Abstract: An audio/video (A/V) hub includes a state-detection circuit coupled to at least one pin in a high-definition multimedia-interface input connector, which can electrically couple to an entertainment device. When electrically coupled to the entertainment device, the state-detection circuit establishes a ground loop between the electronic device and the entertainment device. A control circuit in the A/V hub detects whether there is electrical coupling with the entertainment device using the state-detection circuit. When the electrical coupling is detected, the control circuit provides a set of first control commands associated with different types of entertainment devices until, in response, content activity is detected via the input connector.

  • Patent number: 9888218
Abstract: A display system includes a display screen, a plurality of subsystems, and a control system. The plurality of subsystems each generate an excitation beam that carries image information and a servo beam. For each subsystem, a servo feedback detector receives feedback light of the servo beam, detects the servo feedback mark, and produces a monitor signal. For each subsystem, a control unit is operable to adjust optical energies carried by the excitation beam using a scaling factor. Two adjacent subsystems of the plurality of subsystems are configured such that in operation the areas scanned by the excitation beams of the two subsystems overlap in an overlap region. The control system is configured to determine a range of the overlap region based on the monitor signals from the servo feedback detectors of the adjacent subsystems, and to determine the scaling factors for the excitation beams for the overlap region.

  • Patent number: 9866789
Abstract: A smart multimedia content receiver automatically resizes video images based on the content being displayed on the TV screen. Such a self-formatting content receiver includes on-board image processing capability that provides continuous video analysis to detect changes in program formatting and convert each frame as it is received in real time, as opposed to processing and re-releasing an entire program or movie, or relying on the viewer to re-format programs manually. In response to detecting a change, aspect ratio adjustments are made as needed. Because the self-formatting content receiver has access to the video data before it is displayed, such automatic on-the-fly adjustments ensure that the viewer's experience during program changes is seamless and without distortion. Subscribers can influence decisions made by the content receiver by pre-setting viewer preferences for aspect ratio adjustment.

  • Patent number: 9860606
Abstract: Systems and methods for fixed delay video switching. One embodiment of the system describes a fixed delay video communication link, which includes: a real-time video encoder (RT-VE) that receives an incoming high-definition uncompressed video (HD-UV), compresses the incoming HD-UV into first or second HD compressed video, and transmits the HD compressed video over a communication link to a real-time video decoder (RT-VD). The RT-VD decompresses the HD compressed video into an outgoing HD-UV. And wherein on-the-fly switches between the first and second compression ratios, while continuing to receive the incoming HD-UV uninterruptedly, are both visually lossless and maintain the same fixed delay between corresponding pixels of the incoming HD-UV and the outgoing HD-UV.
