  • Patent number: 8913505
Abstract: A mechanism to permit an LMA to perform some specific handling once MAG restart is detected is disclosed. If a MAG restart is detected by the LMA, the LMA preferably will not release all corresponding binding in its cache. The LMA may select an alternative MAG which is servicing the same. Then the LMA can send a mobility message to the selected MAG. The mobility message can be triggered by the restart detection or by the received downlink data on one or more valid binding. The mobility message can contains all UE identity that has a valid binding in the LMA and the restarted MAG.

  • Patent number: 8873508
Abstract: Methods and devices for assigning a resource to a wireless communication device (WCD) based on soft handoff capabilities are presented. In particular, a radio access network (RAN) component, such as a base station controller (BSC) may receive call initiation requests from multiple WCDs. Some of these WCDs may be eligible for channel-assignment-into-soft-handoff (CASHO), wherein a WCD is assigned multiple traffic channels from multiple wireless coverage areas during call initiation procedures. However, the RAN component may take into account the effects of CASHO on WCDs with limited wireless coverage. Thus, if CASHO procedures could result in one or more WCDs not being assigned a traffic channel, the RAN component may refrain from performing CASHO, or at least refrain from performing CASHO to its full extent, in order to assign at least one traffic channel to other WCDs.

  • Patent number: 8837470
Abstract: The present technology considers multi-stage network topologies where it is not possible to evenly stripe uplinks from a lower stage of the network topology to switching units in an upper stage of the topology. This technology proposes techniques to both improve overall throughput and to deliver uniform performance to all end hosts with uneven connectivity among the different stages while delivering uniform performance to all hosts. To achieve improved network performance in case of asymmetric connectivity, more flows may be sent to some egress ports than to others, thus weighting some ports more than others, resulting in Weighted Cost Multi Path (WCMP) flow distribution.

  • Patent number: 8797843
Abstract: In a switching network, each of a plurality of lower tier entities is coupled to each of multiple master switches at an upper tier by a respective one of multiple links. At each of the multiple master switches, a plurality of virtual ports each corresponding to a respective one of a plurality of remote physical interfaces (RPIs) at the lower tier are implemented on each of a plurality of ports. Each of the plurality of lower tier entities implements a respective egress port mapping indicating which of its plurality of RPIs transmits egress data traffic through each of its multiple links to the multiple master switches. In response to failure of one of the multiple links coupling a particular lower tier entity to a particular master switch, the particular lower tier entity updates its egress port mapping to redirect egress data traffic to another of the multiple master switches without packet dropping.

  • Patent number: 8725876
Abstract: Cluster-free techniques for enabling a directory protocol-based Domain Name System (DNS) service for high availability are presented. A DNS service monitors a node for wild-carded IP address that migrate to the node when a primary node fails to service DNS requests for a directory of the network. The DNS service forwards the wild-carded IP address to a distributed directory service for resolution and uses the distributed directory service to dynamically configure the DNS service for directly handling subsequent DNS requests made to the directory over the network while the primary node remains inoperable over the network.
