Abstract: Example methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to estimate population reach for different unions based on marginal ratings. An example apparatus includes a reach determiner to determine a population reach estimate of a union of time intervals for which media ratings data is available, the population reach estimate based on a pseudo universe estimate of a population audience corresponding to the union of the time intervals; a pseudo universe determiner to determine a pseudo universe estimate of a recorded audience corresponding to the union of the time intervals; determine the pseudo universe estimate of the population audience based on the pseudo universe estimate of the recorded audience; and iteratively update the pseudo universe estimate of the population audience to reduce an error; and a consistency checker to adjust the population reach estimate, the reach determiner to output the population reach estimate of the union.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of displaying video content includes, based on an input to transition playback of a video content item from a first media player that is instantiated in a user interface to a second media player that is instantiated in the user interface, determining a current value of a first state descriptor associated with the first media player; setting a value of a second state descriptor associated with the second media player to match the current value of the first state descriptor; and after setting the value of the second state descriptor, causing the second media player to begin playback of the video content item, wherein the second media player begins playing the video content item based on the value of the second state descriptor.

Abstract: In accordance with some implementations, a method is performed at an electronic device with one or more processors, a non-transitory memory, and a display. The method includes displaying, on the display, a representation of a first portion of a media object, wherein the first portion of the media object is associated with a first resource utilization value. The first resource utilization value characterizes a utilization of a respective resource by the electronic device. The method includes determining an engagement score that characterizes a level of user engagement with respect to the representation of the first portion of the media object. The method includes changing the utilization of the respective resource from the first resource utilization value to a second resource utilization value based on a function of the engagement score. The second resource utilization value is associated with a second portion of the media object.

Abstract: A playout system for providing playout of fragmented video content is provided. The system includes a non-transitory data store and a processor. The processor is configured to playout content for video origination using a fragmented format. The processor can receive a playlist and generate a plurality of video fragments from source content. A transcoder can process video fragments based on one or more program scheduling requirements from the playlist to generate new video fragments. A manifest is updated to reference the new video fragments. The process can output a video stream based on the new video fragments.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards selecting content search results based on the age of the viewer. The content receiver receives search criteria for a viewer, which may include the age of the viewer. The content receiver obtains search results from a search of a plurality of content. The search results are prioritized based on the age of the viewer and presented to the viewer. In this way, searching for “dog” for a four year-old may provide or prioritize different results compared to search for “dog” for an eight year-old.

Abstract: A near eye display device includes a sparse array of intensity modulated light beam emission and steering points disposed on a transparent lens, capable of forming a wide field of view composite image directly on the retina with variable degrees of apparent depth controlled by an image forming timing signal. The active regions of the beam emission and steering elements is configured so as not to generate optical aberrations of transmitted ambient light that is apparent to the eye. The display may be applied to small form factor stereoscopic head worn display systems and used in conjunction with Augmented Reality software applications.

Abstract: A method performed by an electronic device is described. The method includes receiving surround view image content. The method also includes orienting a first field of view (FOV) of the surround view image content relative to a coordinate system of the surround view image content. The method further includes receiving a reorientation input. The method additionally includes determining a reorientation factor based on the reorientation input. The method also includes reorienting the first FOV to a second FOV of the surround view image content relative to the coordinate system based on the reorientation factor. The method further includes presenting the second FOV.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes receiving a first request for first supplemental content for use by a content-presentation device in performing a first content-modification operation, receiving a second request for second supplemental content for use by a tuner device in performing a second content-modification operation. The method also includes determining that the content-presentation device is connected to the tuner device, and based at least in part on the first and second requests, determining that the first and second requests are associated with the same modifiable content-segment, and, in response to the determinations, using one or more parameters as a basis to select for performance an action from a set of actions including a first action that facilitates performance of the first content-modification operation and a second action that facilitates performance of the second content-modification operation.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling media devices are provided. A device controller includes a device control module. The device control module identifies media devices in a local network, such as a LAN. The device control module selects a media device from the identified media devices. Next the device control module selects content to be displayed on the selected media device. The device control module uses the local network to cause the selected media device to display the selected content.

Abstract: Systems and methods for a media content user interface. A media content provider includes storage for storing and serving video content to subscribers. The media content provider records and or otherwise stores video content from around the world. Subscribers are provided a user interface to the system that includes a side bar. The user interface provides context sensitive hints to assist the viewer. The system also tracks a viewer's viewing history in a manner that allows the viewer to review and directly access any part of that history. Finally, magnetic points are created for use during video scrubbing to intelligently select relocation points for the current playback position.

Abstract: A method, computer system, and a computer program product for media consumption gap filling are provided. Notification that a first user has selected a first broadcast channel to view while the first broadcast channel is showing a first program may be received. A desired program scheduled to be presented via the first broadcast channel at a time after an end of the first program may be determined. A first duration may be calculated that starts at a current time and ends at a scheduled time of commencement of the desired program. First gap-filling content that has a duration sufficient to fill the first duration may be identified. The first gap-filling content may be from a first personalized media corpus associated with the first user. The first gap-filling content may be presented.

For example, packet type information corresponding to an attribute of a divided piece arranged in the payload of a packet is arranged in the header of the packet. Further, for example, when a divided piece arranged in the payload of a packet is subtitle information to be displayed in a predetermined region, identification information indicating the predetermined region is arranged in the header of the packet.

Abstract: Connection of clients to nodes associated with a storage system can be managed during non-disruptive upgrades (NDUs) of software or firmware of nodes. During NDU, connection manager component (CMC) manages connections of clients to nodes based on a node pool policy to determine nodes to consider for connection for a client request and a connection policy. CMC can determine whether to reduce a set of nodes to a subset of nodes having a particular upgrade status based on a threshold value associated with the particular upgrade status, which can be one of upgraded or non-upgraded. If threshold is satisfied for the set, CMC can reduce the set to the subset of nodes, and CMC can determine a node of the subset based on the connection policy. If threshold is not satisfied, the set is not reduced, and CMC determines a node from the set based on the connection policy.

Abstract: Provided is a process of matching media characters, the process including: obtaining a plurality of character records, each character record including a trait vector specifying traits of the respective character; receiving a request from a user device to match characters in the character records, the request identifying at least one reference character record; calculating, with one or more processors, matching scores indicative of similarity between the trait vector of the reference character record and trait vectors of other character records among the plurality of character records; selecting a responsive character record from among the plurality of character records based on the matching scores; and sending instructions to the user device to display information about a character of the responsive character record.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to measure exposure to streaming media are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a processor, and memory including machine readable instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to: extract a series of tags associated with media playing on a presentation device, different ones of the tags in the series of the tags embedded in the media at different temporal positions within a duration of the media; identify a first tag from the series of tags to report to a central facility, the first tag identified based on a temporal proximity of the first tag to an event associated with the media playing on the presentation device; and transmit the identified first tag to the central facility, other tags in the series of tags not being transmitted to the central facility.

Abstract: Methods and systems for accessing content are provided. A non-tunable device (e.g., a device without the capability to tune to a particular channel) can access a particular channel via a tunable device (e.g., a device with the capability to tune to the particular channel). A computing device can facilitate content tuning. In an aspect, the non-tunable device can transmit a request for content to the computing device. The request for content can comprise a title of the content, a type of content, channel information, and the like. Upon receiving the request for content, the computing device can determine the characteristics of the non-tunable device such as device type, device capabilities, location, and identify all the tunable devices capable of communicating with the non-tunable device. Entitlement information can be provided to the one or more tunable devices. The entitlement information can facilitate access to the requested content by the non-tunable device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for customizing a display of media asset information based on a user preference profile. In particular, media asset description information is customized by changing a term to a synonym that matches an event or keyword in the user preference profile.
