  • Patent number: 5458841
Abstract: A novel process and novel apparatus for producing prestretched plastic film is presented. The method and apparatus are capable of forming a film from molten material and cooling the film to a non-molten condition so the film can be stretched. The cooled film is engaged and passed through a primary nip and second nip to plasticly and elastically stretch the cooled film to cold orient the film such that the film is stretched beyond the material's yield point. The cooled film is engaged with a plurality of idler rollers at a relatively low tension over a distance sufficient to allow the cooled film to relax to recover a major portion of its elastic deformation. Thereafter, the film is formed into a roll prior to being affixed to a unit.

  • Patent number: 5449488
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in connection with a process for insulating or sheathing conductors or the like, wherein plastic material is extruded into at least one layer on the surface of the conductor (1), and the conductor coated with the plastic material (2, 3, 4) is cooled in a predetermined manner. To avoid problems caused by the shrinking of the plastic material, after the cooling of the conductor (1) and the plastic material in vicinity to it to a predetermined level in the insulating or sheathing process, the surface layer of the plastic material and the plastic material portions in vicinity to it are reheated to a predetermined temperature in a pressurized space filled with a medium.

  • Patent number: 5439628
Abstract: The present invention is directed at polypropylene compositions containing a high level of filler, at a calendering process which uses the compositions to produce polypropylene films and sheets, and at the film or sheet produced from that process. The process of manufacturing polypropylene film involves formulating a polypropylene composition containing a resin, filler, matrix modifier, and processing aid. The resin comprises polypropylene resin ranging in concentration from about 100 to about 70 parts per hundred parts by weight of resin (PHR), and polyethylene resin ranging in concentration from about 0 to 30 PHR. The matrix modifier amounts to about 2 to 40 PHR. The filler ranges in concentration from about 0 to 450 PHR. The processing aid ranges in concentration for about 0 to 5.0 PHR. The composition is then mixed to obtain a homogeneous and plasticized mixture.
