  • Patent number: 5074227
Abstract: The disclosed planting apparatus includes a frame fixedly attached to a transversely extending tool bar. Secured to the tool bar and extending rearwardly therefrom is a platform on which the seed hopper and herbicide container are mounted. Seed from the hopper is dispensed downwardly to a seed metering device which deposits seed at uniformly spaced intervals into a furrow formed by a pair of furrow-opening discs and a shoe associated therewith, the shoe packing or compacting the soil at the bottom of the furrow formed by the discs. Playing an important role in the invention is a walking beam system which mounts a pair of gauge wheels for independent movement relative to each other and also relative to the furrow-opening discs and shoe. Also supported by the walking beam system is a pair of furrow-closing or press wheels, the pitch of which can be adjusted for varying soil conditions.

  • Patent number: 5074363
Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus for treating soil by breaking up soil clods and compacted earth. The apparatus includes a carrier frame angularly maneuverable in relation to the longitudinal or forward direction of movement of the apparatus, and in which are mounted at least two rotating parallel helical blade elements, of which at least one rolls on the ground. Each of the helical elements, whether of the same or different diameters, has a pitch and a diameter such that, when in joint rotation, the spires of one of the blade elements remains in close contact with the spires of the other blade element or elements. Each of the helical blade elements is operatively connected mechanically for simultaneous rotation with the other blade element or elements. The operative connection between the blade the blade elements is, for example, achieved by endless chains trained about pinion fixed on respective ends of rotating shafts to which the helical elements are fixed.

  • Patent number: 5072676
Abstract: A multi-row seed planter has a seed hopper for each row and may also have a herbicide and/or insecticide hopper for each row. The hoppers have generally rectangular top openings the rims of which are tubular in cross-section and referred to as "perimeter tubes". The closure lids for the hoppers slide on and off from the hopper openings. When each lid reaches its fully closed position it snaps into place and cooperating formations on the lid and perimeter tube retain it in its fully closed position against agitation and vibration during planter travel.

  • Patent number: 5069296
Abstract: An apparatus adapted to permit independent setting of pitch and tilt of dozer blades without necessitating complex hydraulic circuitry or mechanical linkage. The blade is pivotally supported by two forwardly extending push beams. A strut is connected at one end to one of the push beams and is connected at its other end to the dozer blade via a cam assembly. The cam assembly permits dozer blade pitching to take place without interacting with the dozer blade tilt angle. In a preferred embodiment, two struts are used at opposite ends of the blade and are each connected to their respective side of the blade by a respective cam. The two cams are linked together and synchronized so that their stroke equally pitches the sides of the dozer blade.

  • Patent number: 5067421
Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus for sowing seed, particularly seed for reforestation, intermittently or continuously in a precise and controlled manner. The inventive apparatus includes at least one seed-magazine and at least one seed-dispensing aperture. In order to utilize the germination potential of the seed in to the cultivated soil in which the seed is sown, it is proposed in accordance with the invention that the apparatus will include at least one seed-carrier provided with means for receiving discrete seeds from the seed-magazine. The apparatus includes force-transmission means by means of which the seed-carrier is moved between a seed-receiving position and at least one seed-dispensing position, in which the seed-carrier communicated with the seed-dispensing aperture and in which seed carried by the seed-carrier is caused to fall down through the seed-dispensing aperture.

  • Patent number: 5065681
Abstract: An improved down pressure arrangement for an implement such as a multi-section grain drill having fixed-height section frames with corresponding gangs of opener assemblies. The opener assemblies of each gang are yieldingly biased downwardly by a spring and bracket structure operably connected to a rockshaft. One rockshaft per gang is provided, and each rockshaft is controlled by a single down pressure adjusting cylinder. The cylinders are connected in parallel and to a pressure regulator to provide adjustable and uniform average opener down pressure across the width of the drill for more contant opener depth in irregular ground conditions. Tension links connected to the bracket structure permit the opener assemblies to be raised from a ground-working position to a transport position.

  • Patent number: 5065731
Abstract: An arrow rest assembly includes a mounting bracket for mounting to a bow. A rest arm is mounted on a spatially fixed lateral shaft that aids in supporting and positioning the rest arm. The rest arm is adapted to be laterally adjusted along the shaft. The assembly further includes an angular adjustment screw that cooperates with the rest arm to angularly position the arrow supported by the rest arm for proper flight trajectory upon firing. In one embodiment, the lateral shaft is threaded to mate with a threaded hole in the rest arm. A lateral adjustment knob is rotated to rotate the shaft and thus move the rest arm laterally along the shaft due to the cooperating threaded engagement. The angular adjustment screw is atached directly to the rest arm and engages a bottom plate of the assembly. In another embodiment, the lateral shaft has a V-shaped slot for receiving a securing screw attached to the rest arm.
