Patent number: 4717098Abstract: Spring-loaded linkage contained in a housing attached to the control stick of an aircraft. One member of the linkage is an arm having an end projecting from the housing and forming a hand grip through which the pilot controls the aircraft. The linkage provides a resisting force on the arm which prevents it from rotating relative to the control stick during normal flight maneuvers. However, when the control stick is pulled to full aft stop and additional pull equal to the spring break-out force is applied, the resisting force suddenly decreases, and the arm and grip rotate aft a discrete displacement relative to the control stick. This displacement actuates a g-limiter override which permits the aircraft to exceed set limits on its normal acceleration. The discrete displacement also provides the pilot with a tactile signal that the override has been actuated. The g-limiter override condition can be maintained by a pull on the grip substantially less than the spring break-out force.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1986Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: McDonnell Douglas CorporationInventors: Laurence A. Patent number: 4717029Abstract: In a control method of a crane in which a parcel suspended by a rope is laterally transported by a trolley, the accelerating time and decelerating time of the trolley are obtained on the basis of the mass of trolley, mass of suspended parcel including a suspending device, and rope length, and when the trolley is started, the accelerating force which is necessary to allow the velocity of trolley to become an objective velocity for the accelerating time is instructed, and after this accelerating time has elapsed, the trolley is allowed to uniformly run at the objective velocity. During the constant speed running, the stop position of the trolley is predicted on the basis of the decelerating time. When the trolley reaches the start position of the decelerating operation such that the trolley can be stopped at the objective position, the decelerating force which is necessary to reduce the trolley velocity to zero for the decelerating time is instructed.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1986Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Seiji Yasunobu, Shoji Miyamoto

Patent number: 4715562Abstract: This invention relates to a mechanism for automatically actuating a rescue device upon opening of a panel obturating an exit and bearing said rescue device, mechanism comprising a control bar connected to said rescue device and adapted, under the action of a voluntary actuating member, to be rendered fast either with said panel or with the periphery of said exit, with the result that opening of said panel does not bring about, or brings about, respectively, actuation of said rescue device via said control bar. According to the invention, this mechanism is characterized in that said control bar is fast in displacement with a mobile system controlled by said voluntary actuating member in order to subject said bar to a movement of translation parallel to itself, of direction at least substantially at right angles to said panel. The invention is more particularly applicable to the automatic control of escape slides, slide/rafts or the like in the event of an emergency.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1986Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Societe Nationale Industrielle AerospatialeInventor: Jean Bokalot

Patent number: 4715309Abstract: A ballast arrangement includes a number of tanks and a pump connected to a sea-chest and having a discharge conduit extending to a level above the top-most tank. A distribution conduit extends to the various tanks and an overflow pipe is connected to the discharge conduit and reaches to a further level, above the first mentioned level, where also an evacuation pipe is connected. The further level will determine the static pressure which may act in any of the associated tanks. The tanks may be connected to the suction side of the pump through by-pass conduits, and a two-way valve is designed so the pump can communicate only with either the sea-chest or with the by-pass conduits.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1985Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Gotaverken Arendal ABInventor: Lars-Olof Liberg

Patent number: 4712503Abstract: A step device for mounting on the transom platform of a boat that may be moved between a use position wherein a step thereof is immersed in the water in which the boat floats and a storage position wherein the step is located above the platform out of the water formed of a step unit, a pair of bracket units and a pair of pin members. The step unit when in the use position permits a person to climb out of the water and onto the platform without the step making any appreciable movement relative to the platform during such climb because of its unique construction which includes a pair of support members each having an L-shaped portion that includes a leg section and a step section joined normally to the leg section via an arcuate section, a lateral portion that extends integrally and normally from the top end of the L-shaped portion, and an abutment portion that extends integrally from such lateral portion in the direction of the step section spaced apart from and parallel to the leg section.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1987Date of Patent: December 15, 1987Assignee: Step On Inc.Inventor: Robert G. Patent number: 4711196Abstract: On launch of a lifecraft from a marine platform or other vessel, an electrically powered tug connected to the lifecraft by stowed cable aligns the lifecraft away from the platform and tows it away from the platform in a predetermined attitude and track. In this way, the lifecraft is controlled in the hazardous initial period between launch and start of its own powered movement. The tug is advantageously stowed and launched bows-out and has an autopilot responsive to deviation of the towline from the tug fore-and-aft line to correct the tug helm so that the tug not only follows a predetermined compass heading but follows a predetermined track relative to the lifecraft. In a preferred version of the tug a portion of the towline is stored between a pair of sheave blocks biased towards one another to bring about towline retraction so that the towline is paid out as the tug is lowered and retracts into the tug during initial movement of the lifecraft with the tug still in the water and acting as a sea anchor.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1986Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignee: Laggan Marine Developments LimitedInventor: Thomas M.
