  • Patent number: 4711195
Abstract: A hydrofoil apparatus for attachment to a marine vessel having a first pivot means for positioning the rotational axis of a gooseneck shaft parallel to the yaw axis of the hull and a trailing load support arm having a forward end coupled to the gooseneck. A planing surface sensor or planing foil rides on the water surface. The planing surface provides a hydrodynamic force to hold the planing surface sensor on surface as the vessel moves with forward velocity. An elongated body member is pivotally coupled to rotate on a first pitch axis with respect to said planing surface sensor. The elongated body member is pivotally coupled to the trailing load support at its aft end. A vertical fin is coupled to support the elongated body member. The fin maintains the planing surface sensor forward of said second pitch axis. A lifting foil raises the bow of said marine vessel by provide a lifting force via the fin.

  • Patent number: 4709885
Abstract: A parachute system for an airman ejected from an aircraft in an ejection seat includes at least one drouge parachute housed within a rigid hollow container. In conventional manner, the drogue parachute is connected by lines with releasable attachments on the seat, one of the lines being further connected with the main parachute so that the latter will be deployed after release of said attachments. The container is formed as a projectile mounted in a gun mounted on the ejection seat. The container has, at its end facing away from the direction in which it is fired, a closure connected with the lines and with the drogue parachute. When the container and closure are fired from the gun, and the closure is arrested abruptly by the lines, the container continues in its trajectory whilst the drogue parachute is drawn from the container and deployed by the lines.

  • Patent number: 4710066
Abstract: A sender propels filter rod sections at a constant or at a variable frequency into a pneumatic conveyor which delivers the sections into the magazine of a receiver serving to store a supply of sections next to a filter tipping machine. The operation of the sender is interrupted for a fixed or for a variable interval of time after the sender propels a preselected number of sections. The intervals of operation and idleness of the sender are regulated in dependency on fluctuations of the quantity of sections in the magazine of the receiver. The frequency at which the sender propels the sections can be varied by varying the speed of a fluted rotor which transfers sections from a source to the sender, and the ratio of the intervals of operation and idleness of the sender is determined by several timing pulse generators which receive signals denoting the quantity of sections in the magazine and control the operation of a blocking device which can prevent the transfer of sections from the source into the sender.

  • Patent number: 4709763
Abstract: A self-activating fire extinguisher which is particularly useful as a Christmas tree ornament is comprised of a thin-walled sealed glass container having a quantity of a fire extinguishing liquid such as Halon 2402 contained therein. When in the vicinity of a fire, the temperature of the liquid will rise causing it to boil which increases the pressure within the container. Eventually the container will break, releasing the liquid; the fumes from which extinguish the fire. In order to prevent glass fragments from being thrown about when the container breaks, the majority of the container is coated with a plastic material. This material adheres to the glass and maintains the broken pieces of glass together even at high temperatures. The liquid and fumes are released through a small portion of the container that is not coated by the plastic.
