Abstract: A disc cutter forming a part of a disc cutterbar used on harvesting implements such as disc mower-conditioners is configured to permit a movement of the disc member relative to the driven shaft on which it is mounted. The disc member, which carries knives for rotation within a path of travel at a generally high speed to sever standing crop material by impact action, is clamped in a split hub by a spring-loaded fastener. At least one-half of the split hub is affixed to the driven shaft for rotation therewith. The disc member is frictionally held in place by the spring-loaded fastener which permits movement of the disc member relative to the split hub upon impact with a substantial object restricting rotative movement. The spring-loaded fastener can be in the form of an assembly of cupped washers compressed by a nut threaded onto the driven shaft of the disc cutter.
Abstract: An expansion joint for settable compositions such as concrete and the like comprises a base portion which is embedded in the composition before it sets with its upper surface adjacent the surface of the composition, and a cover portion which is engagingly received in a slot defined by the removal of a portion of the upper surface of the base portion after the composition hardens around the base. The cover portion is sufficiently wide to cover gaps in the composition adjacent the edge of the base portion. Two or more base portions may be secured together to provide an expansion joint to variable depths in the composition.
Abstract: A mining machine and method allow coal or the like to be mined substantially as quickly during out cutting as in cutting. A front cutter is mounted at the front of the frame, and a first conveyor, which preferably comprises a chain conveyer, conveys cut coal from the front of the frame to the rear and ultimately out of the area being mined. A second conveyor is mounted in back of the front cutter for conveying cut coal from adjacent the rear of the frame towards the front, and ultimately to be deposited on the first conveyor. A rear cutter is located to the rear of the second conveyor for cutting material during out cutting to be moved to the second conveyor as the machine moves rearwardly. The rear cutter is movable from a first inoperative position within the volume cut by the front cutter, to a second, operative position outside the volume cut by the front cutter.

Abstract: A multi-joint blast joint comprising a series of standard length joints of production tubing is disclosed. The blast joint includes a series of cylindrical rings composed of an abrasion resistant material mounted about the tubular tubing joints forming a protective shield about the production tubing. A movable sleeve formed of cylindrical abrasion resistant rings is selectively shiftable to enclose and shield the tubing connection assemblies joining the production tubing forming the blast joint. A slip sleeve is mounted about the blast joint providing a pipe slip engaging surface for suspending the blast joint in the well bore. The production tubing and abrasion resistant rings form a blast joint whose length exceeds the standard length of a single joint of production tubing.

Abstract: A drill bit direct drive for deep well drilling tools includes a tubular casing, a rotary machine provided inside the casing and driven by oil well fluid flowing through it, a radially mounted shaft connected to a rotary drill bit and at least one friction bearing exposed to the oil well fluid for axial bearing of the shaft and having at least one trace ring supported on the shaft plus at least one bearing ring supported on the housing and working together with one trace ring. This bearing ring has a number of bearing segments distributed regularly around its periphery including a bearing body supported with respect to the bearing ring so it can be shifted axially and tilted to a limited extent against the action of a spring force.
Abstract: An alternator belt tension adjuster for conventional alternators and standard sloted brackets including a rack mounted adjacent the bracket slot engaged by a pinion and fastener extended through the slot into the alternator.
Abstract: A disc cutterbar for use on a harvesting implement, such as a disc mower-conditioner, is driven by an endless timing belt entrained around toothed sprockets corresponding to each disc cutter within the transmission casing. The positive engagement between the toothed timing belt and the corresponding toothed sprocket provides a means for timing the rotation of adjacent disc cutters to minimize the possibility of interference between rotating knives. The toothed timing belt, however, is capable of movement relative to the toothed sprocket should the corresponding disc cutter become restricted in its rotation, such as by impact with a substantial object.

Abstract: The downhole lock assembly comprises a lock mandrel (10) connected to a running tool (11). The running tool holds an inner mandrel (13) located within the lock mandrel (10) in a position which allows lock-out keys (20) of the lock mandrel (10) to remain within the outside diameter of the lock mandrel body (12). Shear pins (34) are adapted on downward jarring against a landing nipple to expand the keys (20) and shear pins (33) are adapted on upward jarring to release the running tool. The running tool has a `tell-tale` collet (30), connected to it by a shear pin (32), to indicate that the lock mandrel is correctly set in the landing nipple, said collet being adapted when the running tool (11) is released from the lock mandrel (10) after setting the lock to disengage intact from the lock mandrel (10) if the lock-out keys (20) are correctly set and to foul the inner mandrel and shear the shear pin (32) if the lock-out keys are incorrectly set.
Abstract: The apparatus for removing stratified outcropped minerals and for transporting these minerals parallel to the mining face or breast comprises a digging portion and a conveyor portion as well as a chain conveyor guided positively in them with digging tools and carrier members. The digging portion and the conveyor portion are assembled together from a plurality of pan-like members. Each pan of the conveyor portion comprises a conveying trough made from two guide pieces which are mirror images of each other attached to a base plate and from two identical bent plates. The guide pieces engage in members in the bent plates and are clamped with them by clamping plates on the top side of the bent plates. The digging portion has a guide piece indentical with the guide piece of the conveyor portion. A basin-like plate of the digging portion is pivotably mounted by a welded substantially circular cross section strip on the breast wall side of the conveyor portion.

On each side of the additional connecting element 16 is provided a transport element 101, 100, 29 rotating around an axis pointed upwardly. The direction of rotation of the transport elements 101, 100, 29 is such that their movements of rotation diverge toward the front. The front edge 46 of the additional connecting element 16 extends toward the rear and downwardly to the vicinity of the cutting plane 31 of the cutting elements 10 and in the operational zone of the transport elements 101, 100, 29 located on both sides of the additional connecting element 16.
Abstract: A rock drilling appartatus wherein the rock drill is a cluster of independent rock drills arranged in a circular pattern about a central axis for rotation. The cluster drill is drawn into a hole to be drilled by a drill string in a previously drilled smaller diameter hole. The drill string provides pressure fluid to operate the cluster drill and rotation as well as the tractive force to draw the cluster drill into the hole to form a large diameter straight drilled hole. Pressure fluid and rock cuttings exit the larger diameter hole and discharge of rock particles is further aided by use of a trailing auger rotated by the cluster drill. A particular application of this device is in the production of horizontal bored holes of moderate diameter under, for example, roadways, foundations, and the like. The drill string acting as a centering device produces a straight hole in difficult rock formations.
Abstract: Then invention relates to a cutting machine having cutting heads or drums which are supported to be freely rotating on a pivoting cutting arm, with a loading ramp or conveyor which extends in the direction to the work face to receive and transport the cut material, the loading ramp or conveyor being supported on the machine frame to be displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the cutting machine. The pivot axis of the cutting arm, which axis extends at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the machine, is provided to be adjustable relative to the machine frame in the longitudinal direction of the machine. The adjusting movement of the horizontal pivot axis of the cutting arm is coupled to that of the loading ramp or conveyor.
