Patent number: 6035579Abstract: A window regulator has a lift arm pivoted on the door and rotatable to raise and lower a window between open and closed positions. A lever is carried by the arm and pivotally connected to a gear rack crank. A crank mechanism is provided for turning a pinion gear and the pinion gear meshes with the gear rack. Accordingly, rotation of the pinion gear translates the rack and rotates the lever to pivot the lift arm thereby raising and lowering the window. A swing arm is pivoted on the pinion shaft and carries a roller which engages the rack so that the rack is captured between the roller and the pinion gear to maintain the rack in engagement with the pinion.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1998Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Brian Hale Staser, Jeffrey Alan Glinter, Alfonso Pineda

Patent number: 6032416Abstract: The present invention is a bi-parting door system for transit vehicles. It has two doors mounted for movement in opposite directions and a motor for opening and closing them. It has at least one lock having a lock member for locking the doors in a closed position. The lock member is biased toward the locking position and moveable to an unlocking position by an actuator controlled by a control system which also controls the motor. When the doors are closed they experience a biasing force tending to open them and this biasing force is reacted by the lock member to generate a load on the lock member which prevents it from moving as a result of a spurious signal to the actuator. Unlocking of the doors requires a door closing signal to be received by the motor to remove the load from the lock member, as well as an unlocking signal to the actuator. Hence, the doors cannot be opened by any one spurious signal to either the motor or to the actuator.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1998Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Westinghouse Air Brake CompanyInventors: Serge Springer, Pierre Rainville

Patent number: 6029401Abstract: A mounting assembly for mounting a panel, such as a shutter, adjacent and in parallel, spaced relation to a window set into a window frame that has first and second opposing walls includes a biased mount and a fixed mount attached to the panel in opposing relation to one another. The biased mount has a body fixedly attached to a surface of the panel at about an edge thereof. A reciprocating biasing assembly is carried by the body and includes a shaft operably connected to the body by a biasing element. The shaft has a first engaging element mounted to an end thereof that is movable away from and toward a selected one of the first and second walls of the window frame. The biasing assembly biases the engaging element toward the selected wall. The fixed mount has a body fixedly attached to the surface of the panel in opposing, spaced relation to the biased mount.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1998Date of Patent: February 29, 2000Inventor: Donald H.
