  • Patent number: 5946860
Abstract: A pane guide for a spherically curved window pane which can be lowered in a door shaft of a vehicle door and forms a component part of an imaginary barrel shaped sleeve surface along the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and which can be moved in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle by a double-strand cable window lift mounted in the door shaft. The guide rails have a first and second curvature adapted to the window pane curvature in the transverse direction of the vehicle so that a swivel movement about a swivel point spaced from a guide edge of the window pane in the X-direction is additionally superimposed on the displacement movement of the window pane. The imaginary barrel-shaped sleeve face on which the window pane is displaced swivels with the window pane and during the displacement movement between the extreme positions there are always three corner points of the window pane lying on the barrel-shaped sleeve face.

  • Patent number: 5927012
Abstract: An emergency release latch mechanism for a hinged cover of a hatchway construction, wherein the cover is heavily spring biased to open position but is normally restrained in closed position by the latch mechanism. The mechanism includes an emergency-actuated release member such as a low-temperature fusible metal link which, through a release mechanism which reduces the tensile load on the link, retains a latching dog in engagement with a shackle pin on the cover but assures positive disengagement therefrom to release the cover to open position in the event of actuation of the emergency-actuated release member. The latch mechanism is typically positioned at the center of the hatch but the release member and emergency-actuated release members are disposed near a wall of the hatch so that the latch mechanism may easily be set or reset by a person at the periphery of the hatch by securing a cable connecting the latch mechanism and release mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5927011
Abstract: A self-aligning, simple to use and reliable child/pet safety gate (2) that is removably mounted by a support assembly (4) to an existing room door (12) by hanging the support assembly on the room side doorknob (10) without the use of mounting hardware is disclosed. This design allows the gate to be used or stored while so mounted to the room door. Further, with the gate in its stored, hidden position behind the door, the existing room door can still be opened and closed in a normal fashion. Yet, it is a simple matter to place and secure the gate's blocking assembly (6) in its operative or blocking position by pivoting it to block the open area and then latching it to the door frame using a locking strap (54) and pin (60) and the existing door lock bolt aperture (62) to secure the blocking assembly.

  • Patent number: 5927010
Abstract: An air-driven rotating window assembly mountable to one side of a viewing window. The rotating window assembly faces toward the working or weather exposed area and slings off, by centrifugal force, any debris that contacts the rotating window so as to maintain clear visibility through a portion of the viewing window over which the rotating window extends. The rotating window assembly includes a support base and a rotating window rotatably mounted to the support base. The rotating window has an annular frame with propulsion passages therein that receive a flow of pressurized gas substantially tangentially to the frame. The propulsion passages redirect the gas to generate a propulsive force on the frame to spin the rotating window relative to the support base. The gas exits the annular frame through a restricted gap between the support base and the rotating window so as to form an air barrier that prevents debris from passing through the gap.

  • Patent number: RE36267
Abstract: A tailgate is hinged to a passenger van type vehicle body above a substantially vertical rear access opening for swinging movement about a horizontal hinge axis. The tailgate is counterbalanced through its range of movement by spring devices and is opened and closed by a powered actuator mounted on a rear vehicle body pillar. The actuator includes a reversible electric motor driving a worm shaft that drives a worm gear to pivot a crankarm about an axis parallel to the hinge axis. A roller mounted on the crankarm is received in a guide channel that is fixed to the tailgate and extends at right angles to the hinge axis with the pivoting movement of the crankarm thereby translated into swinging tailgate opening and closing movement. The motor is connected with torque sensing circuitry that detects an excessive motor torque demand when the tailgate encounters an obstacle and stops the motor.
