Patent number: 5301136Abstract: In a digital image processing system, a dedicated inverse discrete cosine transform (IDCT) processor comprising a controller and an array of accumulators is provided for performing n.times.n inverse discrete cosine transforms. The controller controls the computation of the output vector using a forward mapping procedure. The controller causes k unique kernel values of the reconstruction kernel of each non-zero transform domain coefficient to be selectively accumulated by the array of accumulators, where k equals at most (n.sup.2 +2n)/8. The array of accumulators comprises accumulator blocks sharing an input and a control line designed to exploit the symmetry characteristics of the reconstruction kernels. Each accumulator block is designed to perform a limited number of distinct operations. The accumulator blocks are logically grouped. P symmetry selection bits and less than an operation configuration selection bits, where 2.sup.q equals n.sup.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1993Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: Sun Microsystems, Inc.Inventors: Leonard McMillan, Jr., Lee A. Patent number: 5301072Abstract: A sample data position error signal detection means is described. This invention is suited for use in a digital sector servo in a magnetic media disk drive environment. In particular, the invention relates to the detection and presentation in digital form of position error signals (PES) representative of magnitude and sign of recording head displacement from a track centerline. The circuits disclosed provide a digital representation of PES suitable for direct application to a digital signal processor which controls overall servo positioning operations. The invention detects the PES by an integration method and incorporates the innovation of requiring only two integrators to demodulate a PES having an arbitrarily large number of phases. The invention uses a phaselock oscillator having a hybrid digital/analog phase detector to generate the coherent carrier sequence for synchronous detection of PES. A further innovation of the invention is the use of a fully digital automatic gain control circuit (AGC).Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1993Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: Mastor CorporationInventor: Rosser S. Patent number: 5301100Abstract: A method of and apparatus for constructing a control system and a control system created thereby which is based on a finite state machine with constant code (FSMcc). An input preprocessor module normalizes input signals as required by the FSMcc logical processing unit. An output postprocessor module changes the normalized finite state machine outputs to real signals required by the controlled process or apparatus. The input preprocessor allows for a different finite state machine required for an application to be executed by the same constant code contained in the FSMcc microcode storage. An application logic table for the FSMcc is constructed using a specific organization of data representing application logic conditions. This organization allows the entire application logic to be expressed in a table of a technically feasible size. The size of the FSMcc application logic table memory is greatly reduced.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1991Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Inventor: Ferdinand H. Wagner

Patent number: 5301101Abstract: Disclosed is an adaptive and predictive controller having self tuning capabilities. The receding horizon window and sample interval are determined by the tunning mechanism automatically, based on the relationship between the controlled and manipulated variables. The interval and window may be set by the user as well. Constraints on the manipulated and controlled variables at the end of the horizon window are accommodated automatically. In addition to providing servo regulatory control the invention teaches simultaneous minimization of operating costs.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1993Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventors: J. Patent number: 5301102Abstract: The feedback calculation for a dynamic matrix control (DMC) system has been modified so that it can accommodate a delay period between the time when the output variable is measured and when the measurement is available for feedback. This was accomplished by storing the projection vectors calculated by the DMC system and then comparing them to the output variable measurements as they become available. The algorithm was modified to handle planned production rate changes by adding another term to the equation used to calculate the projection vectors. This term involves multiplying the dynamic matrix for a given disturbance variable by a vector of future changes in that disturbance variable.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1991Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: Westvaco CorporationInventors: J. Patent number: 5297023Abstract: An NC data editing method speedily and accurately edits NC data, e.g., for modification of the movement path of a controlled object. When three positional conversion command blocks are successively read from original data in a data conversion process following a data modification process, a position transformation matrix is calculated based on coordinate value data for three sets of reference points and corresponding points in the blocks (S211). For a mirror conversion command block, a mirror transformation matrix is calculated based on coordinate value data for two points stated in the block (215). An up-to-date composite transformation matrix is obtained by multiplying a previous composite transformation matrix by a now calculated transformation matrix (S213). Each time a movement command block is read, post-positional-conversion or post-mirror-conversion command point data is obtained by multiplying movement command point data in each block by the up-to-date composite transformation matrix (S217).Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1991Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Fanuc Ltd.Inventors: Masaki Seki, Takashi Takegahara, Takeshi Arakaki
