Abstract: A method for making a composite lined tube is disclosed, wherein the tube has end couplings on it. The method includes pressing a resin impregnated fiber preform progressively along an inner wall of the tube. In one embodiment, the method includes inserting an inflatable bladder into the tube. The bladder is adapted to inflate along a length thereof on application of increasing pressure to the interior of the bladder. The bladder has disposed on its exterior surface the fiber preform impregnated with resin which is adapted to fit within the tube. One end of the preform is secured to one end of the tube. The bladder is then inflated along its length by applying increasing pressure to the bladder. The preform is clamped to a shoulder of one of the couplings at another end of the tube, and the end of the preform is trimmed to conform to the shoulder. Pressure is maintained in the bladder while curing the resin. In one particular embodiment, the bladder is inflated from its center outwardly to its ends.
Abstract: A highly stretched film has permanently heat-sealed edges that are nearly invisible. A folding apparatus folds the edge portions of a film to form folded edges. The folded film then is passed through a bridle mechanism having two heated rolls. A series of nips apply pressure to the folded film as it is heated by the heated rolls. The nip pressure, combined with the heat imparted by the heated rolls, causes thermal welding of the folded edges resulting in permanent heat-sealed edges. Because the film edges are folded prior to the hot-stretching, the hot stretch process performs dual functions of stretching the film and heat sealing the folded edges. The resulting stretched film has permanently heat-sealed edges that do no separate, and which prevent tearing of the film edges during subsequent processing and use.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method by which a transparent object can be manufactured, in which transparent object an inclusion is arranged. A spherical object can be a substantially two-dimensional or three-dimensional object. The method includes the following steps, to be performed in suitable sequence, of: a) providing two complementary halves of the object such that at least one of two contact surfaces of the respective halves to be directed toward each other has a central recess which also forms a boundary of a cavity for accommodating at least a part of the inclusion; b) arranging at least said part of the inclusion in said recess; and c) mutually adhering the two halves, for instance by means of the parts of the two contact surfaces extending around the central recess, in order to form the object.

Abstract: An embossing and laminating device which includes a pair of embossing cylinders having tips arranged symmetrically on the two cylinders; a pair of pressure rollers, each of which works in conjunction with one of the embossing cylinders; a glue applicator associated with one of the two embossing cylinders; and a laminating roller positioned downstream of the nip between the embossing cylinders and working in conjunction with the embossing cylinder which is associated with the glue applicator. Abstract: A method produces adhesive closing parts having adhesive closing elements made of plastic materials. The elements interact with corresponding adhesive closing elements of a second adhesive closing part to form an adhesive closure. The adhesive closing part having the adhesive closing elements is applied, at least in part, with a coating. The thickness of the coating is chosen such that it ensures subsequent formation of an adhesive closure. Adhesive closures with enhanced application possibilities can thus be produced.
Abstract: The invention provides large surface area geogrids with a high tensile strength, a method and apparatus for producing them, and their use as drain and reinforcement grids and as fences. The method for the continuous production of geogrids which have a large surface area and comprise thermoplastic bars which cross one another and are joined together by welding at the areas where they cross one another is characterized in that single-layer, homogeneous, molecular-oriented plastic bars with a high tensile strength are used and a multiplicity of crossing areas arranged behind one another and next to one another are intermittently welded simultaneously using the vibration-welding technique. In this method, a newly developed vibration-welding apparatus is used, which is characterized in that it has at least one vibration device which can be used to weld at least 100 crossing areas, preferably up to 500 crossing areas, simultaneously.

In certain aspects hot glue is used and is cooled following application of the second layer on the first layer.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing primary structures of composite material with curing in a female tool, comprising the steps of laminating superimposed composite material layers in a pre-impregnated state; placing the obtained laminate over a forming tool, loading the assembly of the laminate and forming tool in a vacuum bell and applying a pre-established forming operation, loading the formed laminate, still in a green state, in a female tool suitable for its curing, placing lateral caul plates in the tool and inserting elastomeric pipes in channels of the caul plates, fitting a central caul plate, sealing the assembly and applying a vacuum bag with perforations to remove the air from its interior. The assembly is cured in an autoclave.

Abstract: Methods for forming a thermoplastic film with an attached closure strip are disclosed. The thermoplastic film can then be used to produce zippered reclosable plastic bags. The methods include providing a thermoplastic film web having a sealing surface and providing a closure strip having a binding surface, both being maintained in a non-melted condition at room temperature. A heated thermoplastic binder layer is then extruded and positioned between the sealing surface of the film web and the binding surface of the closure strip very quickly after extrusion. The hot freshly extruded binder layer transfers enough heat to the closure strip and to the film web to melt the binding surface of the closure strip and sealing surface of the film web. Pressure is then applied to the film web and the closure strip to seal the closure strip to the film web. An apparatus for practicing the method at high speed is also disclosed.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to prolong the seal life of a color EL display apparatus. The initial thickness of a light-transmitting main substrate is larger than a predetermined reference thickness WC. First, a plurality of thin-film EL devices are formed on one surface of the main substrate. Then, a sealing substrate having a concave portion formed in one surface thereof is bonded onto the one surface of the main substrate at predetermined intervals. Then, a protective material for protecting the thin-film EL devices is filled in the gap between the one surface of the main substrate and the sealing substrate. Then, the main substrate is processed so as to have the reference thickness WC. Then, a color filter portion is formed on the other surface of the main substrate. Lastly, a reinforcing substrate is attached to the other surface of the main substrate with the color filter portion in between.
Abstract: A honeycomb sandwich panel is produced by (a) mounting a honeycomb core on a lower prepreg laminate skin placed on a forming die, (b) superimposing thereon an upper prepreg laminate skin to cover the honeycomb core, (c) mounting flat plate-shaped elastic jigs on a portion of the resulting assembly where the lower prepreg laminate skin and the upper prepreg laminate skin are overlapping each other, (d) superimposing flat plate-shaped press jigs on the elastic jigs, and (e) heating the assembly under pressure for adhesion forming.
Abstract: This invention is directed to a structural laminate for use as a dasher board comprising a first layer of fiberglass, a layer of rigid foam made of polyvinylchloride, a first bonding layer operatively arranged to bond with the first fiberglass layer and the foam layer, a second layer of fiberglass, and a second bonding layer operatively arranged to bond with the second fiberglass layer and the foam layer. The invention is also directed to a method of making the structural laminate, comprising the steps of bonding a first layer of fiberglass to a foam layer; bonding a second layer of fiberglass to the foam layer; and sealing the bonded layers of fiberglass and foam.
Abstract: A process for forming irrigation drip tape includes, broadly, the steps of a) supplying a longitudinally continuous strip of flexible plastic material in a first direction; b) heating a narrow band of the strip along a longitudinal axis thereof; c) depositing a continuous bead of material on an upper surface of the strip, along the narrow band, while the strip moves in the one direction; d) cooling the strip and the bead; e) folding the strip longitudinally so that the longitudinal edges overlap; and f) sealing said longitudinal edges to form a tubular drip tape with a longitudinal, overlapped seam, with the bead extending parallel to the seam and in opposed, facing relationship thereto.

Abstract: In a method for making a shoe, an insole blank having a peripheral portion is prepared. An outsole which has an adhesive applied to the top thereof is positioned in a mold assembly including at least two opposite side mold parts that have forming patterns for forming the peripheral portion of the insole blank. The insole blank is placed in the mold assembly adjacent to the top of the outsole while the insole blank is being softened by heat to a plastic state. The insole blank is pressed against and is bonded to the outsole, and the peripheral portion of the insole blank is pressed and patterned via the side mold parts. The bonding of the insole blank and the outsole and the patterning of the peripheral portion of the insole blank are carried out simultaneously by closing the mold assembly.
