Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to compounds for the detection of wounds, e.g., chronic wounds or infected wounds, including compositions, substrates, kits, dressing materials, and articles, and systems containing such compounds. Further embodiments relate to methods of using these compositions, kits and systems in diagnostic assays, and in the diagnosis and/or detection of chronic or infected wounds based on enzymatic conversion of specific substrates which are contained in the compositions. Additional embodiments relate to methods of characterizing wounds based on expression of a plurality of markers and using such information to treat, manage, and follow-up patients suffering from chronic or infected wounds.
Abstract: The invention provides aqueous ophthalmic solutions of phentolamine or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, medical kits, and methods for using such ophthalmic solutions to improve visual performance in a patient. Exemplary aqueous ophthalmic solutions include those containing phentolamine mesylate, mannitol, sodium acetate, and water.

The process is a solvent emulsion process involving an organic phase (OP) and an aqueous phase (AP) to form an emulsion. In the case of an oil-in-water emulsion (O/W), the organic phase (OP) contains the biologically active ingredient dissolved or dispersed therein. Alternatively, in the case of a water-in-oil emulsion (W1/O), the aqueous phase (AP) contains the biologically active ingredient dissolved or dispersed therein. The organic phase (OP) is saturated with the salt-containing aqueous phase (AP) and vice versa.

Abstract: A method of production of a tissue sealing patch is disclosed. The method comprises applying a vacuum to a heated work surface; applying a solution of a biocompatible polyurethane polymer to the work surface and spreading it over the work surface with a polymer blade; evaporating the solvent; heating the work surface above the softening temperature of the polymer; spreading powdered tissue sealant material over the polymer film; incorporating the tissue sealant material to a depth of 20-60 ?m in the film by pressing on a release sheet placed over the powder and polymer film; removing the release sheet from the adhesive patch material; releasing the vacuum; cooling said work surface; and removing the adhesive patch material from said work surface. The biocompatible polymer preferably comprises PEG-caprolactone-lactic acid units connected by urethane linkages, the PEG having a molecular weight of 3000-3500 amu, and a CL:LA:PEG ratio of 34:2:1.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of treating skin and scalp comprising applying on the scalp or skin a composition comprising a scalp care active selected from the group consisting of 2-Pyridinol-N-oxide, a pyrithione or a polyvalent metal salt of pyrithione, one or more iron chelator having an A log P value of greater than or equal to 0.4 and mixtures therein; exposing the scalp and skin to electromagnetic radiation having wavelength from about 350 nm to about 500 nm and power from about about 0.1 mWatts/cm2 to about 1000 mWatts/cm2 and for a time period from about 2 seconds to about 5 minutes; wherein the antimicrobial treatment results in reduction of fungal growth as measured by the Fungal Growth Sensitivity Test of at least 50% compared to the dark sample.
