Abstract: Environmental data of an environment of the building and cooling load demand data are received as first training data, which are used for training a first machine learning model to predict a cooling load demand from environmental data. Furthermore, control signals for the chiller plant and cooling power data resulting from applying the control signals to the chiller plant are received as second training data which are used for training a second machine learning model to predict a cooling power from control signals. Actual environmental data are received, from which a cooling load demand is predicted by the trained first machine learning model. Furthermore, candidate control signals for the chiller plant are generated, and from which a resulting cooling power is predicted by the trained second machine learning model. From the candidate control signals, applicable control signals are selected for which a predicted cooling power fulfills the predicted cooling load demand.

Abstract: An estimation unit estimates a thermal sensation representing how hot or cold a user feels based on an image of the user taken by a camera. A control unit controls an air-conditioning operation of an air conditioner based on an estimation result of the estimation unit so that the thermal sensation falls within a target range, the air conditioner targeting a room in which the user is present. The image shows a motion and/or state of the user representing a hot or cold sensation of the user, and the estimation unit extracts the motion and/or state of the user from the image to estimate the thermal sensation.

A stochastic gradient estimator is configured to estimate a full gradient of the cost function and update the estimation of the full gradient based on the probabilistic distribution of the partial gradients generated at each ESC iteration. A feedback controller is configured to drive a state of the subset of actuators of the system towards the corresponding perturbed subset of setpoints.

Abstract: Heating and cooling systems at various geographical locations are controlled by a central energy management service unit to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures. In some weather conditions, people may intuitively prefer a slightly warmer or cooler indoor temperature. In systems equipped with environmental learning capabilities, an apparent outdoor temperature is determined based on the geographic location itself, the season at the geographic location, the forecasted actual temperature, and one or more seasonal weather factors such as wind velocity or humidity. The apparent temperature and a trained machine learning system are used to select an automated schedule for the geographic location to be directly transmitted to devices at the location. The automated schedule can vary from typical schedules by causing the heating and cooling systems to maintain a temperature that is slightly warmer or cooler than typical indoor temperatures.
Abstract: A method for delivering power to a grid. The method may include receiving a prediction of power generation for a renewable energy source (RES), receiving power level requirements of the grid, and receiving length of power delivery requirements of the grid. The method may further include determining a power delivery limit based on the prediction of power generation, the power level requirements, and the length of power delivery requirements. The method may further include delivering power to the grid according to the power delivery limit from the RES and an energy storage system (ESS) electrically coupled to the RES.
Abstract: A method for driving an electricity production assembly includes an electricity production system, that generates an output power, as well as an electricity storage system. The production assembly is driven, at each time-step, in such a way as to deliver a total power that is less than a maximum admissible power. The maximum admissible power is determined in such a way that the production assembly can, starting from this power, and taking account of a stored energy in the storage system at the considered time-step, progressively reach, with a moderate slope, a minimum anticipated power, which is representative of the worst downward variation expected for the output power in case of degradations in meteorological conditions.

Abstract: A system and method of simulating and optimizing industrial and other processes includes a computer that performs multivariate analysis of input variables and output variables to generate a data model of the operation of the process. For industrial applications, the input variables include process variables and the output variables include result variables from the operation of the industrial process. The data model determines contributions to changes in the output or result variables by the respective input or process variables and is provided to a predictive algorithm to identify parameter values for input or process variables expected to have a most significant impact on the output or result variables during performance of the process. The outputs of the predictive algorithm are parameter values that are provided as input or process variables to the industrial process for simulation or performance optimization or product recommendations/optimizations.

Abstract: A method of assessing the reliability and availability of a distributed energy resource (DER) device included among a plurality of DER devices in communication with a platform over a network. The method includes monitoring, by the platform, behavior of the DER device. This may include monitoring an extent to which the DER device is available to engage in communication with the platform over the network. This monitoring may also include determining whether the DER device acknowledges control commands sent to the DER device over the network and determining whether the DER executes the control commands in conformance with at least one of a standard and a regulation. The method further includes determining, based upon the monitoring of the behavior of the DER device, a value of a reliability and availability score for the DER device.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for the robust, multivariable control of a power generating asset via H-infinity loop shaping using coprime factorization. Accordingly, a controller of the power generating asset computes a gain value for an H-infinity (H?) module in real-time at predetermined sampling intervals using an actuator dynamic model. The controller then determines an acceleration factor based, at least in part, on the gain value of the H? module. Based, at least in part on the acceleration vector, the controller generates a control vector. An operating state of at least one component of the power generating asset is changed based on the control vector.

Abstract: Systems and methods for training a surrogate model for predicting system states for a building management system based on generated data from a system identification model are disclosed herein. The system identification model is used to generate predicted system parameters of a zone of the building based on historic data from operation of the building equipment. The surrogate model is trained based on the predicted system parameters from the system identification model. Predicted future parameters of the variable state of the building are generated using the surrogate model. The surrogate model is re-trained based on new operational data from the building equipment. An updated series of predicted future parameters is generated using the re-trained surrogate model.
