  • Patent number: 4631828
Abstract: An improved cutting member for a rotary trimmer. The cutting member is formed of a flat link chain, so the cutting member is flexible throughout its length. Alternate links are somewhat wider, and may be sharpened on their edges for better cutting. A hardened wear member is at the ends of the cutting member both to receive the hard wear of cutting against hard surfaces and to provide a more massive end to assist in holding the cutting member out during operation.

  • Patent number: 4631829
Abstract: A holder is described which holds a conventional, single-edge razor blade and permits the blade to be held safely in the hand and used to cut thin, elongated articles, such as sheets or strands by drawing the blade into edgewise contact with the sheet or strand. The cutting edge of the blade is protected except for a portion thereof, which is exposed at the end of a guide slot in the holder, which serves both to guide the article being cut into cutting contact with the blade at an optimum angle of incidence with respect to the blade, and to prevent other articles and parts of the hand from being cut accidently. The blade is replaceable without tools and is reversible to use portions of both ends. A finger extends outward from the holder and parallel to the guide slot to hook the article to be cut into initial engagement into the guide slot.

  • Patent number: 4630371
Abstract: A radially short upstanding sleeve member is provided and includes an upper end releasably mounted from a rounded base portion of a sector-shaped debris shield of a line trimmer. The lower end of the sleeve member is loosely telescoped downwardly over the upper end of the line reel head of the line trimmer and an intermediate length portion of the sleeve member includes an inwardly projecting corrugation functioning to stiffen the sleeve member against radial deformity. In addition, the corrugation serves to allow lateral deflection of the lower end of the sleeve member relative to the upper end thereof and the corrugation projects closely inwardly over the upper end of the associated line reel head. Further, the upper end of the sleeve member is mounted from a depending flange portion of the base portion of a sector-shaped debris shield of the line trimmer through the utilization of a resilient spacing member.

  • Patent number: 4628607
Abstract: A vibratory dry-shaving apparatus comprises a housing; a bipolar, uniphase, synchronous motor positioned within the housing and having a rotor and a stator; and a shaving head arranged on the housing and including a vibratory cutter part below a fixed cutter part. A wall separates the interior of the housing from the shaving head, such wall having a passage therethrough. A swing lever is driven by the rotor and engages the vibratory cutter part to drive the latter, the swing lever extending through the passage. An elastic sleeve surrounds the swing lever and seals the passage between the edge thereof and the swing lever. The elastic sleeve is asymmetrically designed so that, in a final end position of the vibratory cutter part where the magnetic fields of the rotor and the stator are parallel, no force resulting from deformation of the sleeve is exerted on the vibratory cutter part.

  • Patent number: 4628603
Abstract: A hand implement for slicing cheese, root vegetables and the like has a cutting blade (1) having an opening (4) for a cutting element (5). In order to prevent the cutting blade from sticking to the foodstuff and to prevent the sliced foodstuff (18) from sticking to the blade (1), the blade is manufactured from a bending resistant plastics material and the end parts of the cutting element (5) are cast or moulded in the blade so as to form a free slot (17) rearwardly of the cutting element (5). The slot (17) is effective to form a layer of air between the sliced foodstuff (18) and the upper surface (8) of the blade and prevents adhesion between the blade (1) and the sliced foodstuff (18).

  • Patent number: 4622744
Abstract: A folding knife has a U-shaped body between the ends of the legs of which a blade is mounted for pivotal movement about an axis, beween open and closed positions. One leg is shorter than the other leg, and that one leg has a laterally extending protuberant portion having a hole centrally therethrough and bevellings on opposite sides of the hole. On that same side of the blade, the blade has two projections spaced equal distances from and on opposite sides of the pivotal axis of the blade, that distance being the same as the distance between the hole and the pivotal axis. As a result, the projections on the blade slide up the bevellings with a cam action upon approaching the open or closed position and snap into the hole. The sides of the projections are inclined, so that there is a cam action by which they can snap out of the hole when moving from one position toward the other position.

  • Patent number: 4622745
Abstract: The hair trimming apparatus disclosed herein is particularly adapted for trimming beards, mustaches and the like. It includes a hair clipper and a one-piece adjustable comb attachment. The comb attachment is slidably secured to the hair clipper by rails or the like which surround part of the clipper, such as the side edges of a stationary blade. The position of the comb attachment with respect to the blades is determined by placing any one of a plurality of indentations in the attachment over a protruding part of the clipper, such as one or more screw heads which secure one or more of the blades to the clipper. The position may be easily changed by merely moving the attachment to a different indentation. In this manner, the comb attachment may be easily secured to the clipper in any one of a number of positions, without manipulating other parts of the apparatus.
