Abstract: A method for a mobile search-ready smart display system containing a smart display having a screen and at least one mobile device having a camera including extracting a plurality of video fingerprints from an ongoing content displayed on the screen. The ongoing content has video frames corresponding to the video fingerprints; determining one or more representative video fingerprints of the video frames from the plurality of video fingerprints; generating one or more encoded representative video fingerprints through encoding the one or more representative video fingerprints into a pixel translucency change; and delivering the one or more encoded representative video fingerprints via a screen-camera communication. The method also includes optimizing the encoding of the one or more representative video fingerprints and the delivering of the one or more encoded representative video fingerprints to find a balance between an error resilience and transmission time.

The method further includes sending search requests that include the identified metadata to a search system for selecting at least one portable program module. The system includes a program guide module and a user device communicating a logo request signal to the program guide module. The program guide module communicates a logo return data signal including the logo address to the user device. The user device retrieves the logo graphics file from the file server using the logo address and displays a logo corresponding to the logo data file on a display associated therewith.

A relationship is identified between an online user profile and the television program or channel, and the television advertisement is selected based at least in part on information from the online user profile. Abstract: Systems, methods, devices, and non-transitory media of the various embodiments facilitate real time playback of a digital broadcast by enabling reduction of the amount of time a receiver device's low power mode interface with a separate computing device operates in an operational/high power mode. The receiver device may associate a stream of media packets of a digital broadcast with system time clock timestamps indicating when the media packets were received, and store the media packets in a temporary packet buffer. Periodically, a media packet burst stored in the temporary packet buffer may be sent to the separate computing device via a low power mode interface operating in an operational/high-power mode different than a low power mode. The low power mode interface may be returned to the low-power mode until the next burst of packets is sent to the separate computing device.

Abstract: A video content presentation terminal includes a video content receiver that is configured to receive video content and presentation override controls for the video content. The presentation override controls define presentation restrictions for the video content. The video content presentation terminal also includes an applications processor that is configured to execute applications on the video content presentation terminal. The applications include presentation format requests. The video content presentation terminal also includes a controller that is responsive to the video content receiver and the applications processor. The controller is configured to format the content that was received for presentation on a content presentation device according to the presentation override controls that were received, while preventing implementation of the presentation format requests that are made by the applications that are inconsistent with the presentation override controls.

Abstract: Provided are a method and device for sending media data. The method is realized by providing a media substitute node between a sender and a receiver. The method comprises: a media substitute node receives an original media data stream from a sender; the media substitute node acquires substitute data for substituting for the original media data stream within a designated interval; the media substitute node converts the format of the acquired substitute data into a media format which conforms to a media parameter of the original media data stream; and the media substitute node sends the converted substitute data to the receiver within the designated interval. The technical solution provided in the disclosure is adopted to solve the technical problems in the related art, such as the reduction in communication efficiency due to the need for re-negotiating a media parameter between substitute data and original media data.

Abstract: Delivery of content such as advertisements to audience members. Profile data is collected regarding audience members to whom advertisements may be delivered, such that a given audience member has an established profile data. Upon receiving a request to serve an advertisement to an audience member, a recognition that the target of the request is the given audience member is made. Then it is determined that a particular advertisement should be served to the given audience member. The determination includes recognition of the given audience member and corresponding selection advertisements optimized for the recognized audience member. A configurable delivery decision making mode allows pre-optimized as well as delivery time factoring for determining advertisements. Performance criteria and revenue allocation based upon data provider participation are also provided.

Abstract: A client-side multimedia content targeting system schedules the recording, storing, and deleting of multimedia content on a client system storage device. The system accepts as input a prioritized list of program viewing preferences which is compared with a database of program guide objects that indicate when programs of interest are actually broadcast. The viewer's client system locally retains the viewer's preferences and other personal information that the viewer has entered and is sent targeting information relating to program guide objects by a server. Using the viewer's preferences and personal information, the client system creates a viewer profile, which is used with the targeting information by the client system to record content that is within the viewer profile. The described client-based form of targeting can be applied to almost any multimedia situation, including, but not limited to: TV shows, movies, advertisements, product and service offerings, music, radio, audio, etc.

Abstract: Data is transmitted by or collected from individual receivers of broadcast content on a particularized basis. The broadcast content is transmitted without regard to selection of a particular content stream by any one or more receivers. The receiver data is analyzed, and may be analyzed in conjunction with other information such as details on broadcast content streams made during certain times, and selections of broadcast streams by particular receivers. System configuration changes and targeted content may then be transmitted by a bidirectional data exchange medium to the individualized receivers based upon the analysis.

Abstract: A method begins by a processing module receiving a plurality of playback requests for a stored program, wherein the stored program is stored in a dispersed storage network (DSN) memory as sets of encoded data slices. In response to the playback requests, the method continues with the processing module entering a loop that begins with retrieving a group of sets of encoded data slices, generating copies therefrom, and storing the copies. The loop continues with the processing module sending a representation of the copies to a requesting device. The method continues with the processing module exiting the loop when the last group of the request has been retrieved and repeating the loop when it has not.

In accordance with some embodiments, a method for presenting a suggestion to watch videos is provided, the method comprising: receiving, from a user device, a message that includes a link to a video; determining whether the link has been selected; in response to determining that the link has not been selected, determining a probability value that indicates a likelihood that a user associated with the user device would be interested in viewing the video; in response to determining that the probability value is greater than a predetermined threshold value, determining a time to suggest that the user view the video based at least in part on information relating to movement of the user device; and causing a suggestion to view the video to be presented in a suggestion interface on the user device at the determined time.

Abstract: A broadcast of data is stored as a plurality of sets of encoded data slices stored using an error coding dispersal storage function. In response to receiving a playback request, a centralized digital video recorder (DVR) identifies a first unique combination of encoded data slices, and determines whether that combination of data slices is available for retrieval. If the data slices are available, they are retrieved. If the data slices are not available, another unique combination of encoded data slices of the plurality of sets of encoded data slices is identified and retrieved, instead. Both combinations of data slices can be used to recreate a unique copy of broadcast data.

Abstract: Automated media programming (AMP) systems and methods are provided. In one embodiment of an AMP system, a computer server is communicatively coupled to the Internet and provides a website for enabling uploading of media content, sorting the media content, and downloading the media content. Independent users are permitted to submit, edit, rate, and consume media content over a broadcast media channel or network. In some embodiments of the AMP system, content on the Internet is automatically searched and topics from the searched content are automatically identified. The topics are preferably indicative of currently relevant news or events and are indicative of a type of media content that will be requested for uploading from producers. The AMP system publishes the topics to the producers, receives and stores media content uploaded from the producers that relate to the respective topics, and enable users to select and download the media content.

Abstract: A system and method for using a controllable appliance to report an inoperable state of a controlling device. The appliance is caused to repeatedly determine, at a first predetermined timed interval, if a wireless notification signal, repeatedly transmitted by the controlling device at a second predetermined timed interval, has been received from the controlling device. When the wireless notification signal has not been received from the controlling device within the first predetermined timed interval, the appliance is caused to issue a status notification that the controlling device is in an inoperable state.

Abstract: A system and method for providing integrated advertising in a television distribution network is disclosed. The system comprises a storage module, a processor in communication with the storage module and a chroma-keying module. The storage module stores one television program and one image to be integrated with the television program. The processor divides a background of the television program into a plurality of frames. The processor identifies the background color of each spatial frame. The chroma-keying module compares the background color of each frame with a pre-selected chroma range for integrating the image into detected frame, when the background color of the frame matches with one key-color in the pre-selected chroma range. The spatial frame is replaced with a preset advertisement based on the type, genre and time of the telecast program on a plurality of channels.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for generating a stream in accordance with the DVB standard that is understood by a first-generation decoder, typically in accordance with DVB-S/C/T/, and which also enables the deterministic generation of a stream in accordance with the second-generation DVB-T2 standard. A method is described for generating a stream containing a multiplex according to a first-generation DVB standard. This stream also contains the information relating to an encapsulation in accordance with DVB-T2 of at least one subset of broadcast programs inserted in the stream in the form of private sections that will be ignored by a first-generation decoder that will decode the stream in accordance with the first-generation standard. Equipment according to the invention can construct the T2-MI stream at a DVB-T2 transmitter deterministically, which can then be integrated in an SFN network.
