Abstract: In an automatic, computer-implemented method, a selected television advertisement is presented automatically in association with a television program or channel. A relationship is identified between an online user profile and the television program or channel, and the television advertisement is selected based at least in part on information from the online user profile. Abstract: A method begins by a processing module receiving a plurality of playback requests for a stored program, wherein the stored program is stored in a dispersed storage network (DSN) memory as sets of encoded data slices. In response to the playback requests, the method continues with the processing module entering a loop that begins with retrieving a group of sets of encoded data slices, generating copies therefrom, and storing the copies. The loop continues with the processing module sending a unique copy of the copies to a requesting device. The method continues with the processing module existing the loop when the last group of the request has been retrieved and repeating the loop when it has not.

Abstract: A client-side multimedia content targeting system schedules the recording, storing, and deleting of multimedia content on a client system storage device. The system accepts as input a prioritized list of program viewing preferences which is compared with a database of program guide objects that indicate when programs of interest are actually broadcast. The viewer's client system locally retains the viewer's preferences and other personal information that the viewer has entered and is sent targeting information relating to program guide objects by a server. Using the viewer's preferences and personal information, the client system creates a viewer profile, which is used with the targeting information by the client system to record content that is within the viewer profile. The described client-based form of targeting can be applied to almost any multimedia situation, including, but not limited to: TV shows, movies, advertisements, product and service offerings, music, radio, audio, etc.
Abstract: An intelligent television can provide various interfaces for providing video-on-demand (VOD). The user interfaces include unique visual representations and organizations that allow the user to utilize the intelligent television more easily and more effectively. Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing customized moderation of electronic content published via a media portal. The content management application can access a feed that includes multiple electronic content items. The content management application can determine, based on an approval descriptor associated with the feed, that additional content provided to the feed is provided by a publisher account that must be approved by a moderator account rather than an additional publisher account for which other additional content is automatically approved without requiring moderator approval. The content management application can require approval of the additional content by the moderator account. The moderator account has permission to moderate electronic content provided to the feed based on a moderator descriptor associated with the feed.

Abstract: The subject matter of this specification can be embodied in, among other things, a method that includes identifying metadata related to television programming. The method further includes sending search requests that include the identified metadata to a search system for selecting at least one portable program module. The method further includes in response to a first one of the search requests, receiving first search results from the search system that identify the selected portable program module and outputting a representation of the selected portable program module to a display device for presentation concurrently with the television programming. Profile data is collected regarding audience members to whom advertisements may be delivered, such that a given audience member has an established profile data. Upon receiving a request to serve an advertisement to an audience member, a recognition that the target of the request is the given audience member is made. Then it is determined that a particular advertisement should be served to the given audience member. The determination includes recognition of the given audience member and corresponding selection advertisements optimized for the recognized audience member. A configurable delivery decision making mode allows pre-optimized as well as delivery time factoring for determining advertisements. Abstract: Method for virtual channel management, in an embodiment, includes the following steps. A command including a keyword is detected. Searching local program data for any program satisfying a first search criterion which includes the keyword is made to obtain a local search result, and searching for any external network video content satisfying the first search criterion is made to obtain an external search result. A program list is generated with a combination of the local and external search results. The program list is presented. If a selection indicating virtual channel addition is detected during the presenting of the program list, the program list is set to be a virtual channel associated with a channel identity code, and program content of the virtual channel is played. While the network-based multimedia reproduction system operates, if the channel identity code is detected to be selected, the program content thereof is played.
