  • Patent number: 5929950
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) of the present invention includes a display device sustained by relatively soft elastic members at its four corners and by rigid members at the intermediate portions of its four sides. Therefore, the positional accuracy of the display device in the thicknesswise direction of its substrate and stable support are insured. Even when the LCD deforms due to an impact, the display device undergoes a minimum of deformation and is free from breakage. Further, the characteristic frequency of the display device is increased. This, coupled with the fact that the elastic portions absorb oscillation, protects the display device from secondary breakage.

  • Patent number: 5897183
Abstract: A non-emissive display unit such as a liquid crystal display is disclosed. The non-emissive display unit is adapted for mounting in a rack or panel. The non-emissive display unit includes a display cabinet and a non-emissive display device which is coupled to the display cabinet such that insertion of the display cabinet into the rack or panel mechanically and/or electrically couples the non-emissive display device to the rack or panel. The non-emissive display unit also includes a light source mounted to the rack or panel adjacent the display cabinet such that the light source can be removed and replaced from the rack or panel without decoupling or removing the non-emissive display device from the display cabinet. Insertion of the display cabinet into the rack or panel optically couples the display device inside the cabinet to the light source mounted to the rack or panel.

  • Patent number: 5878778
Abstract: A cut-off valve consists of a hollow rigid body and a flexible or supple forated plug. The plug defines a flow pate therethrough and is sealed in the rigid body between the rigid body's inlet and outlet to define a free volume in the rigid body between the inlet and the plug. The plug flexes or deforms in response to a differential pressure thereacross to collapse into the flow path when the differential pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold thereby stopping the flow.

  • Patent number: 5877835
Abstract: The driving voltage of a liquid crystal display can be adjusted by irradiating the liquid crystal fluid in the display with ultraviolet light. After the fluid is placed in the display, it is exposed to a predetermined dose of high intensity ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light alters the chemical composition of the fluid, thus changing the switching voltage of the fluid and the driving voltage of the display.

  • Patent number: 5722455
Abstract: A nozzle closing valve, particularly for a pressure atomizer nozzle of an oil burner, comprises an inlet side with an inlet port and a valve seat located at the end of the inlet port, as well as a closing member, which is sealing pressed onto the valve seat by a first spring located behind the closing member and is raised from the valve seat counter to the tension of the first spring when a predetermined pressure is reached in the inlet port. A maximum sealing action is achieved in the case of easy manufacture and compact construction in that the closing member is constructed as a diaphragm, the first spring has a substantially linear spring characteristic and the first spring is housed in a spring chamber constructed as a space open on one side and whose only opening is sealingly closed by the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 5715863
Abstract: A connector for joining two tubes together. A female connector with a cavity made of resilient material such that when the male and female connectors are joined the leakage from the tube ends is minimal. In addition, the cavity made of resilient material resilient will only loosely hold onto the outside surface of the male connector such that the two connectors will disconnect quickly and automatically when a relatively low tensional or shearing force is applied across the joined connector. Valve means are also provided to prevent leakage out of both connectors when the connectors are disconnected.

  • Patent number: 5704386
Abstract: A multi-stage regulating valve is provided with a cylinder and an adjusting piston guided inside it to which a regulating pressure can be applied from one side and a return force from the other. Depending on the regulating pressure, the piston keeps at least one outlet aperture in the cylinder wall closed or partly or fully opens it and thus closes off a connection to the side of the piston to which the regulating pressure is applied or partly or fully opens it via the outlet aperture.

  • Patent number: 5704586
Abstract: Known position indicators for magnetic valves are switches which may be activated by cams on the moving parts. Following installation an individual adjustment has to be performed in order to obtain a precise acknowledgment. This disadvantage is avoided and a better monitoring of the functioning of the valve is obtained by detecting the position by means of a continuous position signaler where the data obtained from the putting into service are used as reference data at later determinations of extreme positions.
