Abstract: Ethyleneamines are efficiently recovered from an aqueous solution thereof by extracting them from the aqueous solution into an organic phase with an extractant selected from carbonyl group-containing organic solvents, benzyl alcohol, carboxylic acids and salts thereof, alkylphosphoric acids and salts thereof, and mixed solvents containing at least one of these extractants. The ethyleneamines in the organic phase is recovered preferably from the organic phase to the aqueous phase by incorporating an acid therein, followed by phase separation.

Abstract: A process for the stimulaneous halogenation and fluorination of aromatic derivatives substituted by at least one group containing a halogenoalkyl unit. The aromatic derivative is reacted with the halogen in liquid hydrofluoric acid. The products obtained are useful as intermediates for the synthesis of compounds having a plant-protecting or pharmaceutical activity.
Abstract: 2-Equivalent oxidative hair dye coupler compounds of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein X is halogen or OR', wherein R and R' may be the same or different and represent alkyl, mono- or poly-hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkylphenyl, aminoalkyl, mono- and di-alkylaminoalkyl, phenyl or phenylalkyl except that R and R' are not both methyl, and the acid addition salts thereof are used in oxidative hair dye compositions with conventional para bases. The amount of oxidizing agent can be reduced relative to similar compositions containing 4-equivalent meta coupler compounds. Some of the compounds of formula (I) in which X is OR' are novel compounds as is the elimination of HOR' during the oxidative coupling reaction.
Abstract: Process for the production of 4-(trialkylammonium)-acetoacetarylides having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is H, a lower alkyl, --OCH.sub.3, --OC.sub.2 H.sub.5, --Cl, --Br, --NO.sub.2, --NHCOCH.sub.3 or an anilated heterocyclic ring; n is 1 to 3; R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each is an alkyl having 1 to 18 C atoms; and X is Cl or Br. Such arylide is prepared by reacting a corresponding trialkylamine with a corresponding 4-haloacetoacetarylide at a low temperature in the presence of an organic solvent.
Abstract: In the catalytic reaction of ammonia or formamide with CO and H.sub.2, exceptionally high yields of mono- and di-methyl formamide are obtained among the reaction products when the reaction is carried out in the presence of a platinum group catalyst soluble in the reaction medium, particularly a compound or complex of ruthenium or rhodium, employing a relatively non-volatile polar solvent which does not contain an active methyl function and which does not enter into the reaction producing formamide compounds. The pressure employed is in the range of 3000-8000 psi with a hydrogen partial pressure of at least 1500 psi, the preferred solvent being sulfolane.
Abstract: This invention is directed to thermally activated pelletted catalyst compositions comprising zirconium silicate having phosphorous deposited thereon and their use in the production of predominately linear polyethylenepolyamines from ethylenediamine and monoethanolamine.

Abstract: A low temperature and pressure process for preparing rimantadine in high yields from 1-adamantyl methyl ketoxime is provided. The process comprises contacting a solution of the ketoxime with hydrogen in the presence of a platinum on carbon catalyst at a low temperature and pressure, e.g., room temperature and a pressure of about 25-115 psia (170-790 KPa) are preferred.
Abstract: Essentially linear polyethylenepolyamines are prepared by reacting monoethanolamine with ethylenediamine in the presence of an intercalatively catalytically active tetravalent zirconium polymeric reaction product of an organo phosphonic acid or an ester thereof with a compound of tetravalent zirconium reactive therewith, such as zirconium trimethylene diphosphonate prepared by reacting trimethylenediphosphonic acid wth zirconyl chloride.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the manufacture of N,N'-bis-(aroyl)hydrazines from hydrazine and arylcarboxylic acid alkyl esters in the presence of catalysts. According to the invention, the reaction ingredients are reacted in a substantially stoichiometric mass ratio in an inert medium of low volatility which is liquid to wax-like under reaction conditions, in a suitable reactor equipped with a centrifugal disc and connected to a cycling, separating and draining-off system and a dispersion head to form a paste-like product. The paste-like compound can be used as a metal deactivator in polyolefin which is in direct contact with copper, for instance, in cable and wire insulation.
