  • Patent number: 6247665
Abstract: A nudging device that can be used for aligning the core of a roll of paper with a caliper used for loading the roll into a roll stand. The nudging device has a nudging plate with a pivoted end and a free end. The pivoted end of the nudging plate is pivotally attached to a base by a pivot. The base can be securely maintained stationary with respect to a surface supporting a roll of paper to be nudged. The nudging device also has a means for pivoting the nudging plate from its resting position, and this means may be a pneumatic actuator (such as an air bladder), a hydraulic actuator, a ball screw actuator, or a pawl and ratchet actuator. The pivot is strategically placed on the base so that as the nudging plate is pivoted from its resting position, the free end of the nudging plate travels through an arc in a first circular direction (e.g., clockwise) while causing the roll to be nudged away from the nudging device as the roll moves in a second circular direction (e.g.

  • Patent number: 6244531
Abstract: In a normal state, a roller is engaged with an engaging projection of a rotor constituting a pretensioner and is not nipped between the rotor and a shaft. Accordingly, the shaft is freely rotated and a spool is also freely rotated so that a webbing can be pulled out and wound up. When a vehicle suddenly decelerates, the rotor is rotated and the engaging projection is separated from the roller. Accordingly, the roller is pushed by a taper of the rotor and is nipped between an outer circumferential face of the shaft and the taper. Since the rotor and the shaft are connected to each other through the roller, the rotation force of the rotor is transmitted to the shaft and the spool is rotated and the webbing is wound. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a webbing winding device in which the rotation force of the pretensioner can be transmitted to the spool without causing resistance in the rotation of the pretensioner at its operating time or wasting the rotation force for rotating the spool.

  • Patent number: 6241174
Abstract: A belt shortening device intended for use with a vehicle seat belt securing a baby seat is constructed and arranged so that it can be easily mounted to the existing seat belt without detaching the belt from its existing connection. The belt shortening device includes a tubular housing, a spindle rotatably received within the housing, and a ratchet mechanism operable for controlling rotation of the spindle. The housing has an open end and a closed end and includes a pair of longitudinal slits extending inwardly from the open end. The slits are symmetrically arranged in opposed relation so as to define a transverse slot in the housing for receiving the belt therein. A ratchet pawl is mounted in the side wall of the housing adjacent the open end thereof. The spindle has a body portion and two spaced arms extending perpendicularly outwardly from the body portion. The spaced arms define a longitudinal slot for transversely receiving the belt therein.

  • Patent number: 6241176
Abstract: A reel and pole combination facilitates winding and unwinding of light strings for outdoor displays. One or more reels have male threads on one axial end and female threads on an opposite axial end to mate with poles having male threads on one end and female threads on another. This allows a pole to be threaded to a reel in an orientation that lets a user turn the pole and reel for winding or unwinding light strings without loosening the threaded connection between the pole and the reel. Reels can be threaded together and threaded onto poles, and poles can be threaded together to increase the height of reach.

  • Patent number: 6241239
Abstract: A method and device for output of single sheets from a printer employs a driven first roller pair having a conveying nip in which a respective single sheet is transported and deflected from an approximately vertically proceeding conveying path into an approximately horizontal conveying path. A separation element that suppresses a continued conveying of the respective single sheet on a circumferential surface of a lower roller of the roller pair is arranged in a proximity of the circumferential surface of the lower roller. An edge sensor is arranged preceding the roller as viewed in a conveying direction for determining whether single sheets have pushed on top of one another. A discharge brush electrically discharges one side of the single sheet arranged in the conveying path following the roller pair. A deflection device deflects the single sheet emerging from the conveying nip into a substantially horizontal attitude shortly before the conveying nip as viewed in a direction of the conveying path.
