Patent number: 5908583Abstract: The invention relates to a semiconducting polymer and a method of preparing a semiconducting polymer. The polymer in accordance with the invention has the repeating unit (--A--NH--B--S--), wherein A and B are conjugated groups. The polymer proves to be readily soluble already in customary organic solvents, without the groups A and B having been provided with saturated substituents, and, after doping, has an electric conductivity of approximately 1 S/cm. The method yields semiconducting polymers in accordance with the invention, which have a high molecular weight and few topological defects.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1997Date of Patent: June 1, 1999Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Edsko E. Patent number: 5869437Abstract: A transparent cleansing bar having a logo or other design or message printed on a dissolvable polymer material embedded at approximately the mid-point of the bar. The message is printed on both sides of a very thin sheet of dissolvable plastic material. The bar is formed from transparent modified soap material. The printed sheet is positioned between the two halves of the bar which form the transparent bar having the printed message at the midpoint. The message is viewable through the transparent bar. Upon normal use, the surface of the bar wears away. When the bar is worn or wasted to the midpoint and the printed polymer sheet is exposed to water, the printed sheet dissolves to avoid any disposal problems. An improved method for forming the transparent cleansing bar with a dissolvable, printable film also is disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1996Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Inventor: Donna J. Patent number: 5863468Abstract: Calcined ceramic powder is made by blending a precursor powder with a form of carbon such as carbon black and heating the blend in an oxygenated atmosphere. The carbon acts as a separator, preventing coalescence of the percursor powder during the calcining process. The blend is characterized by the presence of interstitial spacing between the particles of the carbon powder and the precursor powder. The carbon is eventually oxidized to carbon dioxide and/or carbon monoxide and volatilizes as such, leaving behind the calcined ceramic powder. In a preferred embodiment, the heating is effected by microwave radiation. The carbon absorbs the microwave radiation, heating up the precursor powder and calcining it to form the ceramic powder. Once all the carbon has been oxidized, no more microwave radiation is absorbed, and the heating stops, making the process self-limiting.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1997Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: Raychem CorporationInventors: Pawel Czubarow, Mark W.
