  • Patent number: 9792624
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for communicating product or service information to a potential purchaser. A product or item describing a service are scanned to obtain both a product or service code and an advertisement promotion code provided by a vendor/retailer or manufacturer of the product or service using a smartphone of a first user. A barcode is generated on the smartphone by combining the product or service code and the advertisement promotion code with information from the smartphone associated with the product or service and with an advertiser code that uniquely identifies the first user. The barcode is communicated to a communication device of a second user that is the potential purchaser of the product or service. When the communication device is presented to a point of sale (POS) terminal, the terminal scans the barcode, decodes the barcode, and compensates the first user according to the advertisement promotion code.

  • Patent number: 9788721
Abstract: Some examples include a secure low-power sensor platform able to be used for activity monitoring or other purposes. For instance, a sensor system may sense sparse signals using compressed sensing. As one example, compressed sensing may be used to obtain sparse signals from analog sensor signals received from one or more sensors. The data obtained by compressed sensing may be sent subsequently to a computing device to reconstruct the sensor signal. Examples herein enable lower power usage, lower cost, and lower weight than conventional devices, while also enabling processing advantages, such as less overall data to process and lower data storage utilization.

  • Patent number: 9774455
Abstract: Authentication systems and methods for a population of devices each associated with an RFID tag are described. For each device, a secret key is combined cryptographically with a publicly-readable unique identifier (UID) of an RFID tag to obtain a unique authorization signature. The RFID tag is prepared utilizing the unique authorization signature as memory-access and/or tag-operation password(s). The systems and methods may safeguard against attacks whereby compromise of a single tag will not compromise the entire population of devices and may reduce or eliminate the use of inappropriate surgical devices during a surgical procedure.

  • Patent number: 9764082
Abstract: A patient care system is disclosed that includes a medical device such as an infusion pump. The medical device generates a data message containing information such as the status of the therapy being delivered, operating data or both. An alarm generating system assesses the data message from the pump and generates an alarm message if certain conditions established by a first set of rules are met. The alarm message is assessed according to a second set of rules as to whether to suppress the alarm message. The data message contains a required input for both the first and second algorithms. A dispatching system is adapted to forward the alarm message to an alarm destination according to a third set of rules. The alarm destination expresses an alarm upon receipt of the alarm message.

  • Patent number: 9769547
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed that apply multiuser detection (MUD) analysis to an aggregated RF response from a plurality of simultaneously queried RFID tags, so as to distinguish the individual tag responses. The claimed method thereby significantly reduces RFID detection latency when multiple tags are simultaneously queried. Some embodiments transmit carrier waves at more than one frequency, such as a plurality of equally-spaced frequencies, so as to enhance the MUD analysis by incorporating a multi-frequency dimension. Other embodiments incorporate additional spatial dimensions by deploying multiple RF detection antennae at separated locations. The number of colliding tag responses must be estimated before MUD analysis can be applied.

  • Patent number: 9721463
Abstract: A wireless sensor reader is provided to interface with a wireless sensor. The wireless sensor reader transmits an excitation pulse to cause the wireless sensor to generate a ring signal. The wireless sensor reader receives and amplifies the ring signal and sends the signal to a phase-locked loop. A voltage-controlled oscillator in the phase-locked loop locks onto the ring signal frequency and generates a count signal at a frequency related to the ring signal frequency. The voltage-controlled oscillator is placed into a hold mode where the control voltage is maintained constant to allow the count signal frequency to be determined.
