  • Patent number: 9624767
Abstract: A method and assembly to produce data pulses in a drilling fluid in a drill string. The assembly comprises a shear valve that includes a valve member mounted in a valve passage in fluid flow communication with a fluid flow conduit of a drill string to which the assembly is connectable. The valve member is connected to a reciprocation mechanism comprising a rocker, a driven crank arrangement, and a slider member that provides a sliding coupling between the crank arrangement and the rocker. The slider member is pivotally connected to the crank arrangement, is keyed to the rocker for angular displacement about a valve axis, and is radially slidable relative to the rocker, so actuation of the crank arrangement causes angular reciprocation of the rocker, and hence of the valve member, about the valve axis, to produce data pulses in the drilling fluid.

  • Patent number: 9542816
Abstract: A wearable alert device includes an audio transducer and driver circuit that allows selection of either a high or low volume setting for driving the transducer. The driver circuit is operable in a single ended mode for low volume and a double ended mode for high volume. The single ended mode holds one terminal of the transducer low while the other is driven in correspondence with a clock signal, while the double ended mode drives one terminal in correspondence with the clock signal and the other terminal is inverted from the clock signal. The transducer is activated in response to an alert event, and can be driven according to a profile or pattern.

  • Patent number: 9530309
Abstract: In a projector or an optical receiver, a master device produces pieces of definition information that determines timings of detection processes in the device including its own device and transmits the pieces of definition information to the slave device. The master device simultaneously transmits commands to require operations of internal timers to be synchronized with each other to the other slave devices in response to elapse of a time corresponding to a period in which a circulating period of the detection processes of the sensors proceeds by a predetermined cycle. Each of the slave devices corrects the timer in response to the command, and determines a timing at which a detection process should be performed with reference to a time point for correction on the basis of the definition information matched with its own device to execute the detection process.

  • Patent number: 9519346
Abstract: A system is provided that produces haptic effects. The system receives an audio signal that includes a low-frequency effects audio signal. The system further extracts the low-frequency effects audio signal from the audio signal. The system further converts the low-frequency effects audio signal into a haptic signal by shifting frequencies of the low-frequency effects audio signal to frequencies within a target frequency range of a haptic output device. The system further sends the haptic signal to the haptic output device, where the haptic signal causes the haptic output device to output one or more haptic effects.

  • Patent number: 9489785
Abstract: Authentication systems and methods for a population of devices each associated with an RFID tag are described. For each device, a secret key is combined cryptographically with a publicly-readable unique identifier (UID) of an RFID tag to obtain a unique authorization signature. The RFID tag is prepared utilizing the unique authorization signature as memory-access and/or tag-operation password(s). The systems and methods may safeguard against attacks whereby compromise of a single tag will not compromise the entire population of devices and may reduce or eliminate the use of inappropriate surgical devices during a surgical procedure.
