  • Patent number: 4079860
Abstract: A novel dispenser is provided for flowable material. The novel dispenser includes a novel dispensing hopper. The dispenser includes a container provided with an upper closure member, and a lower outlet aperture. Guideways associated with the lower outlet aperture are provided selectively to retain a second vessel (e.g. a coffee brewing vessel) into which a predetermined amount of flowable material (e.g. ground coffee) is to be dispensed. The novel dispensing hopper is disposed between the upper closure and the lower outlet aperture. The novel dispensing hopper includes a hopper having an open top and a discharge aperture. A cylindrical, manually rotatable valve member is detachably, rotatably mounted on the hopper adjacent to its discharge opening. A variable volume chamber, including structure to enable control of the volume, extends transversely of the valve member. • Patent number: 4068780
Abstract: A fluid dispensing device for use as anti-burglar device is disclosed which discharges a fluid, containing a chemical such as tear gas, into an area to be protected when an intruder causes the device to be actuated. The anti-burglar device employs an electrothermal actuator strip for causing fluid discharge when an electric current flows through it. In addition, the fluid dispensing device may also be used as a metered spray atomizing device by the addition of a timing device for periodically actuating the valve of the pressurized container for emitting sprays of atomized fluid into the atmosphere for the spray application of insecticides, disinfectants, deodorants, room air fresheners and the like.

  • Patent number: 4061246
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the controlled feeding of finely divided powdered material from a bin or the like by gravity assist through a mechanical feeding device are characterized by fluidizing or at least aerating the powder above the feed device in a manner to promote flow and prevent packing of the bed of material above the feed device while maintaining a stable unfluidized mass of powder at the feed device. The system is particularly useful in the controlled feeding of finely divided powdered material from a closed bin or the like into a pneumatic conveying conduit by gravity assist through a mechanical feeding device and characterized by constantly equalizing the pressure in the bin to pneumatic conveying line pressure for the purpose of equalizing the pressure in the pore and void space in the bed of material while maintaining a stable unfluidized mass of powder at the feed device.

  • Patent number: 4061247
Abstract: Various means for controlling the rate of travel of a plunger through a pump chamber in a dispensing pump are disclosed including an arrangement in which a cap is slidably mounted to the upper end of the pump plunger and a spring interposed between the cap and plunger with a detent mounted on the container contacting the plunger to prevent downward motion so that as the cap is depressed it is moved downwardly relative to the plunger preloading the spring and in which, after a predetermined degree of motion of the cap relative to the plunger, the lower end of the cap releases the detent to that the preload expands driving the plunger downwardly at a uniform rate. In another illustrated embodiment a preload spring is disposed within the pump between a plunger stem and plunger piston, the hydraulic forces within the pump chamber permitting the spring to be compressed before an outlet passage is opened, the spring once again acting to permit uniform discharge.
