  • Patent number: 5316265
Abstract: A scaffold mounted hoist (20) is provided which mounts with an adapter (30) on a pin (91) extended upward from the scaffold. An electric motor driven transmission (42) causes a standard (40) to rotate relative to the adapter. A cable from an electric winch (50) on the standard is reeved through a pulley (48) on a boom (44) extending from the standard. The transmission and winch motors respond to receivers (56) in the hoist. Thus a load (28) attached to the cable can be lifted, lowered and swung circumferentially through commands from a hand held transmitter (24). An electric eye system (64) stops the load adjacent the boom. Timers (252, 253) stop the load when it nears, respectively, the ground and the scaffold floor (34).

  • Patent number: 5314135
Abstract: An expandable mandrel for mounting a core for winding, in which inner elements are moved inwardly by a floating screw to cam outer elements outwardly to grip the core. The screw is not fixed in the axial direction. Each of the inner elements has a tapered surface slidably positioned in operative relationship with an opposed tapered surface on each of the outer elements. As the inner elements move inwardly the sliding contact of these tapered surfaces cam the outer elements into gripping contact with the inner surface of the core.

  • Patent number: 5310131
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manipulating hot metallic material includes placing a coil of the material at a first position, the coil having an open coil eye, and initiating uncoiling of the coil while it is in the first position. During uncoiling, the coil is transferred to a second position by moving it in a direction transverse to its axis, and heat loss from the coil side edges and eye is restricted by providing a heat shield closely adjacent to the side edges. The uncoiling continues at the second position, and when the coil is near the end of the uncoiling operation at the second position, a coil opener pin is inserted axially into the open coil eye without contacting the coil, thus avoiding conductive heat loss to the pin. Finally, at the completion of the uncoiling operation, the last few coil wraps are pulled into contact with the pin as the coil is pulled downstream out of the second position, whereby the pin prevents collapsing or crushing of the final portion of the coil.

  • Patent number: 5305964
Abstract: A magnetic tape cassette loading and winding apparatus having a pivotable adhesive tape applicator for splicing the end of a leader tape to the end of a magnetic tape and winding into the cassette. The loading and winding apparatus has three tape holders. Two of the holders are pivotally mounted so they can be moved to sequentially change position to first hold the leader tape while it is cut, hold one cut end of the leader on a free end of the magnetic tape while it is spliced with an adhesive tape, and then hold the other cut end of the leader tape and a second cut end of the magnetic tape while it is spliced. The pivotable tape holders can thus perform several functions. A movable adhesive tape is also provided to move from one position to another to apply pieces of adhesive tape to the cut ends of leader tape.

  • Patent number: 5279476
Abstract: A tape cassette including a rib projecting upwardly from a bottom wall of a cassette case at a position between the center and one side of a tape drawing recess formed at the front of the cassette case, the rib being disposed close to the back surface of the tape, and a projection that projects from a back lid which, in a closed position, protects the back surface of the tape. When the back lid is rotated to reach an open position, the projection is kept in contact with an upper end of the rib. Accordingly, even when a part of the tape is lifted by the back lid during a lid opening operation, the tape is prevented from entering behind the rib, thereby also preventing tape jamming and damage to the tape player.
