  • Patent number: 5654596
Abstract: A linear electrodynamic machine (10) includes mover (12) and stator assemblies (14). The stator assembly (14) includes an inner stator having laminations (30-45) and an outer stator having laminations (60-75) for defining a closed loop magnetic flux path. A magnet (95) mounted on an outside portion of the stator assembly (14) produces a constant flux extending through the flux path. The inner and outer stators form at least one pair of aligned spaced apart magnetic poles (50, 80) forming a gap. A group of slugs (24) mounted on the mover assembly (12) moves into and out of the gap to interact electrodynamically with the magnetic flux within the gap. A linear electrodynamic machine (10) includes a stator assembly (14) having at least one pair of elongated stator poles (50, 80) defining a flux gap and having magnets (283A-288A) disposed thereon to interact electrodynamically with a group of slugs (24, 26) mounted on a mover assembly (12) for moving into and out of the gap.

  • Patent number: 5654600
Abstract: The invention relates to a motor, and more particularly to a motor having means for detecting an index position. A rotor yoke of the motor is provided with a recess having a width greater than the width of each pole of a rotating magnet. Substantially the whole of one pole of the rotating magnet and a part of another pole adjacent to the one pole on the downstream side in terms of rotation of a rotor are exposed to the recess. The magnetic flux from the magnet exposed to the recess is detected by a Hall element disposed in opposition to the outer circumference of the rotor, thereby specifying the index position.

  • Patent number: 5637943
Abstract: In a squirrel-cage rotor, the theoretical ideal groove cross section is divided radially into at least two zones, which are displaced relative to each other alternatively in and against the direction of rotation of the rotor, the groove cross section including protuberances that extend into the theoretical ideal groove cross section and bulges that extend from the theoretically ideal groove cross section in a manner that the width of a tooth between the individual grooves remains the same as the theoretical ideal groove cross section, thus preventing the conductor rods from shifting either as they cool after aluminum has been introduced into the grooves or at high rotational rotor speeds.

  • Patent number: 5631510
Abstract: An electric drive with brakes, in particular for hoists, lifting devices or positioning transporting systems, having a brake disk which is movable axially on a motor shaft so as to rotate therewith via a toothing. The brake disk has brake faces at both sides and can be pressed against a stationary counter-brake disk by a spring force. An electromagnetic device is provided which, when connected to current, causes the brake to be released against the spring force. The electromagnetic device has a.c. magnets and E-shaped magnet coil yokes. The counter-pole faces associated with the coil yokes are arranged at magnet yokes which can move angularly on all sides so that the counter-pole faces can be aligned at the end faces of the E-shaped magnet coil yokes located opposite thereto when current is applied to the a.c. magnet.

  • Patent number: 5627420
Abstract: A pump powered by a canned motor has a removable stator cartridge. One end of a generally hollow pressure housing is secured to a pump housing. An annular stator cartridge is removably secured in the pressure housing. An annular gap between the inner surface of the pressure housing and the outer surface of the stator cartridge defines a flow path for cooling fluid to permit the stator cartridge to be surrounded by cooling fluid. A rotor is operatively positioned inside the stator cartridge to form an electric motor when the stator cartridge is energized. The output shaft of the rotor is connected to an impeller in the pump housing. The rotor is rotatably supported by bearings. An end cap is removably secured to the other end of the pressure housing. Removal of the end cap permits access to and removal of the stator cartridge without requiting removal of the motor from the pump housing.

  • Patent number: 5627419
Abstract: A flywheel system having permanent magnets 20 disposed on a flywheel 10 rotating about a shaft 12 is provided with a stator 28 having an outer diameter which is oriented concentrically and shaped conically within a similarly shaped inner diameter of the flywheel 10 (and the magnets 20) and the stator 28 is slidably and rotatably mounted to a shaft 30 thereby allowing a gap g.sub.1 between the stator 28 and the rotor/flywheel 10 to be adjustable. When energy is being provided to (spin-up) or extracted from (spin-down) the flywheel 10, the stator is automatically forced to the left (FIG. 1) due to torque on the stator 28, thereby causing the gap g.sub.1 to be small to provide strong electromagnetic interaction between the stator 28 and the flywheel 10. Conversely, when the flywheel 10 is freewheeling, the stator 28 is forced to the right by a spring 40 causing the gap g.sub.1 to increase to a distance large enough to minimize electro-magnetic drag on the flywheel 10.
