  • Patent number: 8812677
Abstract: In an information system which includes a local site including a cache file server coupled with a host computer, and a remote site including a remote file server coupled with a surrogate processing computer, a method determines whether each of one or more files of data for a data processing request is cached or not. If yes, the method executes data processing for each cached file to produce results in local site. If no, the method includes creating a file list of files to be processed in remote site; sending the file list and processing program to the surrogate computer; if the processing is sufficiently effective to be done by the surrogate computer, receiving results of the processing executed in remote site, and, if not, then receiving an unprocessed file list from remote site and executing data processing in local site and receiving any results already executed in remote site.

  • Patent number: 8756691
Abstract: A security module on a client monitors file download activities at the client and reports hosting website data to a security server. A download analysis module at the security server receives a hosting website data report from the client, where the hosting website data report describes a domain name and an IP address of a website hosting a file the client is attempting to download. The download analysis module analyzes the domain name and IP address of the website to generate file download control data indicating whether to allow downloading of the file to the client. The download analysis module reports the file download control data to the security module of the client. The security module uses the file download control data to selectively block downloading of the file.

  • Patent number: 8745401
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for authorizing actions of a service provider. In one aspect, a method includes providing a user security key to a mobile device of a user. A request is received from a client device distinct from the mobile device to perform an action. A challenge token including a security signature matched to a service security key is generated, and the challenge token is provided to the mobile device. An approval value is received from the client device. The approval value is determined to be valid in reference to the challenge token and the user security key previously provided to the mobile device and to indicate approval to perform the action for the user. The action is performed in response to receiving the approval value.

  • Patent number: 8706819
Abstract: A electronic communication system that can detect and adapt to delays in delivery of e-mail messages. The system may adapt to delays by using other mechanisms to convey the information intended for delivery by e-mail. Delays may be detected using a low-latency channel to send notifications of e-mails to recipients. The notifications are likely to be received in advance of a delayed e-mail, allowing an intended e-mail recipient to detect that delivery of an e-mail has been delayed. The recipient may adapt to the delay in delivery, when a notification is received without a corresponding electronic mail message. The notification may be small relative to an e-mail message but may include enough information to allow the recipient to identify the subject matter of the corresponding e-mail message, an importance level of the e-mail message, a preferred mechanism of the sender for out-of-band communications, and/or the location from which the e-mail was sent.

  • Patent number: 8606862
Abstract: A electronic communication system that can detect and adapt to delays in delivery of e-mail messages. The system may adapt to delays by using other mechanisms to convey the information intended for delivery by e-mail. The mechanism may convey the information to the recipient once the delayed electronic mail message is received by the recipient's e-mail system. In this respect, the recipient may make arrangements to receive information in the e-mail message when the recipient expects to be away from his or her e-mail system. Additionally or alternatively, the recipient may choose to initiate out-of-band communication to the sender when the recipient receives an indication of a delayed electronic mail message.

  • Patent number: 8583832
Abstract: A master network interface device (M-NID) receives, from a network management system (NMS) via a first peer-to-peer (P2P) transport channel, first data destined for a first client network interface device (C-NID), where the first data is associated with network management functions. The M-NID further receives, from the NMS via the first P2P transport channel, second data destined for a second C-NID, where the second data is associated with network management functions. The M-NID forwards the first data from the M-NID to the destination first C-NID via a second P2P transport channel that is different than the first P2P transport channel. The M-NID also forwards the second data from the M-NID to the destination second C-NID via a third P2P transport channel that is different than the first P2P transport channel.

  • Patent number: 8484299
Abstract: A transmitting terminal can transmit a content held by itself to a specific receiving terminal having no email software as if using a mailer. The transmitting terminal (10) and the receiving terminal (20) are connected to a delivery server (30) via a network (4). The delivery server (30) comprises: a database (36) for registering the device ID that specifies the receiving terminal (20); a content storage (39) for temporarily storing a content transmitted from the transmitting terminal (10); and table (33, 37) for managing contents separately on a per device ID basis of the receiving terminal. The delivery server (30), when receiving a request from the receiving terminal (20), refers to the tables (33, 27) and transmits to the receiving terminal (20) a content, the transmission destination of which corresponds to the device ID of the receiving terminal (20).

  • Patent number: 8477191
Abstract: Images taken by a plurality of cameras mounted on a vehicle are combined and an image of the surrounding area is developed, in a plane, around a vehicle display portion. The vehicle display portion shows an illustration border line indicative of the outer shape of the vehicle. The outline of the vehicle indicated by the illustration border line is drawn slightly larger than the outer shape of the actual image of the vehicle. This allows margin areas to be formed between the vehicle and its surroundings, thus reducing the possibility of a collision with an obstacle during driving.

  • Patent number: 8458252
Abstract: A system for minimizing the time required to initiate and terminate an instant messaging session. An initial message in an instant messaging session is checked to determine whether it has any significant content. If the received initial message has insignificant content, then a non-intrusive notification is provided to the user, without changing the current focus in the user interface. A pre-composed response message may also be automatically transmitted to the initiating user, requesting that a more significant message be sent. When an initial message in an instant messaging session is received that is determined to have significant content, the user is promptly notified in a different manner, which may be intrusive such that the current focus of the user interface is changed to a new window or the like containing the newly initiated instant messaging session.
