Abstract: A novel arrangement of pressure foot and drive therefor for providing a frictional clamping arrangement for holding a workpiece being cut by a router so as to prevent movement of the cutout portion of the workpiece in the last increment of the cut. The pinless pressure foot includes a ring-shaped friction member supported by a slide member adjacent one end of a spindle, circumscribing a cutting tool, for engaging the surface of the workpiece. A plurality of flexure members extend around the spindle, first ends of the flexure members being connected to the slide member.
Abstract: A rolling stand has a conventional housing defining a pair of parallel and spaced axes defining a plane. Respective rolls have roll ends journaled in the housing at the axes and roll bodies axially symmetrical about the respective axes and having centered on the respective axes complementary roll-body surfaces of noncylindrical shape and each formed by rotation of a continuously curved generatrix about the respective axis. One of these contoured rolls is displaceable axially relative to the other roll from an end position to another position, and the roll-body surfaces form at the plane in the other position a uniform nip and in the end position a nonuniform nip. This system is set up to be able to displace one of the rolls axially relative to the other of the rolls between the end position and the other position. These contoured rolls may themselves define the nip, or may engage and deform other rolls that define it.

Abstract: The invention provides a planing device for planing two opposite sides of a workpiece which has a flexible and continuous lower platen cantilevered from its frame. The platen has its free end flexed upward by a pneumatically actuated lever, and cooling passages are provided on the end of the lower platen to dissipate heat due to friction between the lower platen and workpiece.
Abstract: A trailer mounted log splitter which operates as a log splitter and as a trailer with hauling and dumping capabilities is provided. The preferred embodiment is a single unit that can be transported to a wooded area, used to split wood and then transport the wood to a firewood storage area and unload the split wood with a minimum of supplemental equipment and handling.
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll equipped with a control arrangement, wherein at the controlled deflection roll there is carried out a groupwise control of the support elements in a manner such that each commonly controlled group of support elements contains at least one support element which does not neighbor any one of the other of the support elements of such group which are effective in the same direction, or such one support element is operatively correlated with at least one support element of the group which is effective in an opposite direction. In the latter case where support elements of the common group are effective in opposite directions they may however neighbor one another in the axial extent of the controlled deflection roll. In this way deviations of the mean or average value of the product profile or sectional shape of the rolled product can be reduced, without the expenditure in the number or construction of the support elements or their controls having to be increased.
Abstract: A router guide for a router comprising first and second spaced-apart end supports adapted to be removably positioned on spaced-apart supporting surfaces. First and second support members are secured to and extend between the ends of the first and second supports and have an elongated router track slidably mounted thereon and extending therebetween. The router track comprises elongated spaced-apart angle members adapted to receive and support the router base. The angle members are spaced-apart to define an elongated opening extending therebetween adapted to receive the power shaft of the router extending downwardly therethrough. The support members are selectively vertically and horizontally mounted on the end supports. The router track may be selectively moved between the end supports and the router may be selectively moved between the ends of the router track to level a large slab of wood.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for felling and bunching trees is provided by means of a support mounted on a vehicle and a carriage mounted for movement along the support in a horizontal direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of movement of the vehicle. The carriage mounts a tree cutting mechanism and a grapple that grips the tree while it is being cut by the cut off mechanism. After the tree is cut the carriage is moved along the support to one end thereof and the grapple moved to a depositing position and releases the cut tree to the side of the path of travel of the vehicle. The present invention permits the vehicle to simply move backwards and forwards along a path to cut a swath through the trees while piling the cut trees immediately adjacent to but to one side of the swath cut by the equipment.
Abstract: A rolling mill for strip and foil material, comprises a roll stand and a coiler for rolled material downstream of the roll stand. An endless belt is trained about the material on the coiler, and an air cushion conveyor is provided for introducing the material between the coiler and the endless belt. The air cushion conveyor and the endless belt are both mounted on the same frame, which frame is mounted for swinging movement between an operative position in which the air cushion conveyor is disposed adjacent the path of the material and the endless belt is trained about the material on the coiler, on the one hand, and on the other hand an inoperative position in which the frame is swung away from the material and the coiler. The pivotal axis about which the frame swings is adjacent that end of the air cushion conveyor which is remote from the endless belt. That axis is disposed beneath the material as the material passes from the roll stand to the coiler.
Abstract: A comminuting apparatus for reducing trees or portions thereof to particles of engineered length especially suitable for ring flaking for subsequent use in flakeboard fabrication and for use by utilities and industries using wood for energy production. The apparatus utilizes one or two rotating discs to which one on a plurality of curved cutting members are mounted and which severs trees, tree portions or other fibrous masses fed at right angles to a rotating shaft member. By the precise design of cutting members mounted on the rotating disc or discs, wood particles of engineered length are produced.

Abstract: The cutter blades of the cutter heads of the present machine are supported in such a manner that they may be quickly and accurately adjusted for varying the cutting depth of the cutter blades. The cutter blades are supported in groove-shaped receptacles equally spaced around the cutter head and means is provided for adjustably supporting and positively locking the cutter blades in the desired adjusted position in the groove-shaped receptacles. An adjusting plate is fixed to the cutter blade by mating sawtoothlike grooves to provide a primary adjustment of the cutter blades. The adjustment plate including a guide surface which includes a gradient component extending in at least one adjustment direction of the cutting blade so that secondary adjustments may be made to the position of the cutter blade.
Abstract: A roll for use in a rolling mill contains a stationary roll support or beam and a tubular roll shell rotatable about the stationary roll support. A hydrostatic pressure chamber or space is located between the stationary roll support and the rotatable roll shell. Substantially punch or piston-like pressure or support elements are provided for the roll, these pressure or support elements being located essentially in the plane of symmetry of the pressure chamber at the side of the stationary roll support which faces away from the pressure chamber.
Abstract: Side guides for rolling steel rods comprise front and rear rolling guide frames consisting of partitions abuttingly connected to each other in a gap between a pair of rolls having cylindrical surface barrels to form defined rolling zones which are side by side along the roll barrels and divided by the partitions and capable of retaining steel rods being rolled, thereby effectively carrying out rolling of steel rods with grooveless rolls without using calibers without twisting and deforming the steel rods into incorrect cross-sections.
Abstract: Apparatus for limiting ruinous rotary deflection and bending moment of roll shafts of a cantilevered type rolling mill. The present invention is a dual bearing bracket which connects the cantilevered ends of roll shafts in bearings to maintain constant parallel rotary alignment of the roll shafts. Thus, roll shaft service life is increased by limiting roll shaft deflection and bending moment.
Abstract: A rapidly adjustable, end-dogging log carriage for gripping and passing random-length logs through log processing equipment comprised of a plurality of longitudinally-spaced fixed dogs and one movable dog, independently movable with respect to the fixed dogs. Each of the fixed dogs are selectively actuable to grip a random-length log by its ends in association with the movable dog which is moved towards the selected fixed dog so as to clamp the log therebetween.
Abstract: The machine described in this disclosure serves to produce pairs of drawer sides from a panel, the thickness of which is slightly more than twice the thickness of one drawer-side; a first arrangement of saws cuts the panel to a predetermined drawer-side height; while a second arrangement of saws cuts off the panels to a predetermined drawer-side length; by means of conveyors, the panels are then passed to a band-saw which slits each panel, through its thickness, into two boards of substantially equal dimensions; two tables each receive a board laid flat, the lower surface of each board being planed by a series of cutters, the sides being machined by a second series of cutters, and the upper surface being planed and grooved by a third series of cutters; the boards are then brought together on a machining table where horizontal and vertical dovetailing heads form a male dove-tail at the end of the drawer-side and a female dove-tail on the upper surface of the drawer-side.

Abstract: A cutter vehicle is arranged to be moved along a row of trees by a powdered drive vehicle. A boom assembly is secured between the cutter vehicle and the drive vehicle and has relatively movable parts which can extend and retract to vary the longitudinal length of the boom assembly. The cutter vehicle has a powered cutter arranged to cut a tree off adjacent the ground. The mechanism has controls capable of actuating the power cutter substantially simultaneously with release of the power for the boom assembly whereby the movable parts of the boom assembly can have free relative movement to allow the powered drive vehicle to advance while the cutter vehicle has stopped momentarily to cut a tree, this providing an arrangement which allows a drive vehicle to maintain a steady advancing movement even though the cutter vehicle has stopped to cut a tree. The boom assembly has pivot support which provides lateral positioning of the cutter vehicle to bypass a tree if desired.
