  • Patent number: 5865018
Abstract: A tool for removing a lawn mower cutter blade from a shaft to which it is attached by a threaded member and disposed in a cutter deck having a skirt portion which surrounds the cutter blade and having different portions disposed at different distances from the ends of the cutter blade as the cutter blade rotates. The tool includes a sleeve portion having open opposite ends and adapted to be telescopically received over the end of the blade and a stop disposed intermediate the ends of the sleeve portion for engaging one end of the blade to limit the extent to which the tool can move inwardly toward the center of the blade so that a portion of the tool extends from the end of the blade toward the skirt portion, whereby when one end of the tool is received on a cutter blade and the blade is rotated, the other end of the tool jams against the inner surface of the skirt portion so that the threaded member can be threaded on or removed from the shaft without further rotation of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5864935
Abstract: A process for producing a brake disc (1) for a disc brake is disclosed; in said process two separating regions (3.sub.1, 3.sub.2) are provided in a one-piece, circular brake disc (1). Said separating regions divide the brake disc (1) into two parts (1a, 1b), whereupon a fastening device (2.sub.1, 2.sub.2), which encompasses the separating region, is designed in each separating region (3.sub.1, 3.sub.2); and finally the brake disc (1) is broken apart into two parts (1a, 1b) in the separating regions (3.sub.1, 3.sub.2). Thus, a brake disc that is easier to mount and to exchange is provided.

  • Patent number: 5852864
Abstract: A constant velocity universal ball joint has a bell-shaped outer joint part which is open at one end. The outer joint part includes longitudinally extending circumferentially distributed outer ball tracks. An inner joint part with longitudinally extending circumferentially distributed inner ball tracks is positioned within the outer part such that the outer and inner tracks are arranged radially opposite one another to form pairs. A torque transmitting ball is received in each track pair. A cage is arranged between the outer joint part and the inner joint part and holds the balls in a common plane in circumferentially distributed cage windows. The cage guides the balls on to the angle bisecting plane when the axes of the outer and inner joint part are articulated relative to one another. The outer joint part is produced, especially by extrusion, forging or deep-drawing. The forming provides outer ball tracks which, if viewed from the open end, are axially undercut-free.

  • Patent number: 5816901
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing lateral movement of a movable brake member of a brake assembly when in engagement with a rotatable brake member having a braking surface. The method includes creating a plurality of grooves in the braking surface. Each groove is parallel to adjacent grooves so that peaks are formed on a movable brake member which mirror the plurality of grooves. The peaks track within the grooves to prevent lateral movement of the movable brake member with respect to the braking surface. The apparatus includes a brake resurfacer for resurfacing a braking surface of a vehicle brake assembly while the braking surface is mounted to a vehicle. The resurfacer includes a substrate figured for mounting in the brake assembly in place of a movable brake member. The substrate supports cutting teeth, tines or an abrasive for removing braking surface material to resurface the braking surface.

  • Patent number: 5806185
Abstract: An elongated siding panel and a longitudinally extending panel attachment and support strip have overlapping edge portions with longitudinally spaced slots receiving corresponding hook-shaped tabs to form loose positive connections. The slots have a length longer than the tabs to provide for limited longitudinal movement of the panel relative to the support strip. The panel and strip are preferably formed from an extruded flat strip of semi-rigid plastics material, and the continuously formed panel and support strip are progressively notched and punched at longitudinally spaced intervals to form the slots and tabs and expansion slots. The notched and punched support strip is progressively severed from the panel, twisted on a longitudinal axis, and the tabs are progressively inserted into the slots for hooking the overlapping edge portion of the panel.

  • Patent number: RE36023
Abstract: A tapered auger shredder which includes a frame defining a grinding chamber with a front wall having a centrally-located discharge opening and a rear wall mounting a powered auger screw having a flighted shaft extending through the chamber and into the discharge opening. The auger screw and shaft are tapered and the screw flight is correspondingly tapered so that the volume pumped by the screw along the length of the shaft remains substantially constant, or the rate of compression is substantially reduced, to provide consistent flow of material to the discharge opening and reduce build up of material against the front wall. In a preferred embodiment, the screw includes a torque transmission collar which extends between a disc-shaped base plate supporting the screw and the first flight turn and acts to prevent jamming of material between the base plate and underside of the first turn as well as transmit rotational torque from the disc to the shaft and flight.
