  • Patent number: 4850793
Abstract: Existing steam chests having a plurality of valves which are incapable of operation by individual high pressure valve actuators may be modified to provide apparatus for transferring operation of a steam turbine at less than a full load betweeen a full-arc admission mode and a partial-arc admission mode. For those steam chests of the internal bar lift type, the outboard valves are disconnected from the bar and coupled directly to respective servomotors. As such, the pre-existing servomotor utilized to lift the internal bar, as well as the additional servomotors for the outboard valves, are operatively connected to a conventional control means. In those steam chests of the external bar lift type, an additional servomotor is coupled through an actuator rod to the pre-existing pivot point of the external bar, and is thereafter controlled by conventional means for interactively activating the pre-existing servomotor and the additional servomotor.

  • Patent number: 4844457
Abstract: A game table is disclosed which comprises a playing surface surrounded by a cushion. The shape of the table is such that certain cushions cannot be joined to other cushions by a line which crosses the playing surface and which is straight. The configuration is such that there are areas of the playing surface which can only be joined by a line extending across the playing surface if the line is curved. Thus a ball cannot roll between these areas without rebounding-off a cushion unless it is struck skew to impart spin to it.

  • Patent number: 4844698
Abstract: A propeller having blades designed to achieve maximum thrust at lower static velocities in both forward and reverse pitch modes is disclosed. Each blade has a generous leading edge radius leading to an upper surface having positive camber and a lower surface having positive camber adjacent the leading edge and negative camber adjacent the trailing edge. Each blade also has a high thickness-to-chord ratio and lower span-to-chord ratio or aspect ratio. This thicker blade profile and aft loading leads to a more uniform pressure distribution and laminar airflow across the blade surface resulting in a higher coefficient of lift, increased blade life and reliability, and lower noise levels.

  • Patent number: 4844693
Abstract: A centrifugal slurry pump casing which reduces localized wear behind the cutwater caused when the pump operates at less than the best efficiency point flow rate. By reducing the throat area (13) of the casing (12) in the region of the cutwater (14) to 30-70% of the discharge neck (17) at the discharge flange (18), recirculation and vortexing due to slurry re-entering the volute is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 4842480
Abstract: A multistage in-line rotary pump which comprises a closed pump body, a base element provided with suction and delivery connectors, and a head element. The pump body is surrounded by a cylindrical jacket or casing spaced from the pump body to form an annular return space, which casing is clamped between the base and head elements by means of stay bolts. Flat joints are provided between the base and head elements and the respective axial ends of the casing. To prevent high areal compression stresses in the area of the flat joints, the two extremities of the casing are plastically deformed to obtain a wall thickness which is greater than the wall thickness of the rest of the casing tube.

  • Patent number: 4838758
Abstract: A submersible centrifugal pump has a downward thrust washer of reduced diameter. The pump has a housing containing a plurality of stages of impellers and diffusers. Each impeller is rotated by a shaft for discharging fluid upward and outward into an intake of a diffuser. A counterbore is formed in the upper end of a bore that passes axially through the diffuser. An upward facing shoulder is located at the lower end of the counterbore. A thrust washer is located on the shoulder. An extension sleeve extends downward from the hub of each impeller into the counterbore of the diffuser of a next lower stage. Downward thrust on the impeller is transmitted through the extension sleeve to the thrust washer.

  • Patent number: 4838759
Abstract: An improvement in an inducer for a pump wherein the inducer includes a hub, a plurality of radially extending substantially helical blades and a wall member extending about and encompassing an outer periphery of the blades. The improvement comprises forming adjacent pairs of blades and the hub to provide a substantially rectangular cross-sectional flow area which cross-sectional flow area decreases from the inlet end of the inducer to a discharge end of the inducer, resulting in increased inducer efficiency improved suction performance, reduced susceptibility to cavitation, reduced susceptibility to hub separation and reduced fabrication costs.

  • Patent number: 4836746
Abstract: The shafts of guide vanes of an axial-flow engine, in particular, a combustion turbine, are supported angle-adjustably in an annular guide vane carrier and are spring-loaded and vibration-damped in their axis directions. An adjustment ring concentric to the flow channel is supported play-free and with low-friction engagement in a groove of a carrier ring by radial and axial rolls. Levers wedged on the guide vane shafts are pivoted by pins in a cylinder bolt, which, in turn, are supported rotatably and displaceably in laterally open bores of the adjustment ring and axis-parallel to it. This permits a largely play-free transfer of the adjustment motion onto the guide vane shafts without point or line contact. The guide vane carrier closes off the groove of the carrier ring so, that the entire mechanism is protected against dust.

  • Patent number: 4834613
Abstract: An inner shroud for a gas turbine engine is described comprising six approximately equiangular segments each segment adapted to securely contain a plurality of vane stems. The segments comprise interlocking first and second sections forming a channel having an aperture suitably sized to securely contain the vane stem. The sections when fit together form an outer recess area suitably sized to substantially accommodate the button portion of the vane stem and an inner cavity suitably sized to accommodate the inner portion of the vane stem. This results in reduced shroud curling when used in a split case compressor.
