Patent number: 7050187Abstract: A device and method for providing real time compensation for packet loss in the transmission of facsimile data over packet networks to avoid the generation of page loss data and the termination of facsimile transmission. Facsimile devices have a low tolerance for interruptions in transmission. Packet networks commonly have a transmission interruption rate above the tolerance of facsimile equipment. In order to compensate for transmission interruption, the present invention teaches the buffering of facsimile data by scan line at the receiving end, the evaluation of buffered scan lines for packet loss and the discarding of scan lines having packet loss to conceal the packet loss from the receiving facsimile equipment to avoid detection of page errors by the receiving facsimile equipment which could cause loss of facsimile transmission.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 23, 2006Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Frank Fruth, Shahid Aktar, Jeff Wright

Patent number: 7006241Abstract: The invention provides a internet facsimile apparatus of a communication apparatus that selectively attaches or does not attach various transmission information (header information) according to receivers. When a user set a read medium on an image reading unit, a receiver's mail address input through a control panel is checked. When the input receiver's mail address does not have the same domain name as the internet facsimile apparatus and is not the mail address for which non-attachment of the transmission information is preset, the transmission information is attached, via the transmission information attaching unit, to a part of the image information obtained by reading the image information formed on the read medium. Then, the read image information is transmitted to the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2000Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroyuki Yamamoto

Patent number: 6972858Abstract: A network controlling section makes communication with a receiver side, and receives receiver side information including the presence or absence of Internet facsimile capabilities on a receiver side, mail addresses, and an apparatus possession capability. A receiver side information identifying section identifies receiver side information. The receiver side information identifying section registers identified receiver side information to a receiver side information table. A determining section provides an instruction to an image conversion processing section and an IFAX processing section to transmit image data to be suitable for the capability on the receiver side with reference to the receiver side information table. When the receiver side has Internet facsimile capabilities, the IFAX processing section transmits image data as an E-mail over the Internet. Also, the image conversion processing section converts image data to be suitable for the possession capabilities on the receiver side.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1999Date of Patent: December 6, 2005Assignee: Panasonic Communication Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasuo Nishida, Yoshihiro Ida

Patent number: 6965443Abstract: A communication apparatus that reduces the number of procedural steps that need to be performed by a user in attaching facsimile data to an e-mail and transmitting the e-mail, includes a CPU of a personal computer that starts a transmission program for performing a series of operations, such as causing a facsimile apparatus to scan a document, generating an image file of the scan data, attaching the image file to an email, and transmitting the e-mail. In accordance with the transmission program, a mail address, a scan mode, and a format for generating an image file of the scan data are set. Then, the CPU instructs the facsimile apparatus to start scanning a document. The CPU receives and stores scan data. Upon receiving a scan end command, the CPU converts the scan data into the format designated as described above, and generates an image file of the scan data. After attaching the image file to an e-mail, the CPU transmits the e-mail.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1998Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Tokunori Kato
