  • Patent number: 7551555
Abstract: A communication network includes a base station in radio frequency communication with a mobile station. In order to regulate packet data messaging by the mobile station, the base station transmits a message over-the-air to the mobile station. The message indicates that the mobile station is to delay transmitting packet data messages and a duration of delay. In response to receipt of the message from the base station, the mobile station delays over-the-air transmission of packet data messages (e.g., Data Burst Messages) in accordance with the indicated duration.

  • Patent number: 7508828
Abstract: As an apparatus itself moves, its access section 101 gets access to router AR2 using a temporarily assigned global address when making a roaming connection to a different network from a network to which the apparatus belongs currently. Message generating section 102 generates a Binding Update message, which contains a global address which is uniquely assigned to network element apparatus 100, the above temporarily assigned global address, and a global address of the router AR1, to transmit the generated message via the access section 101 to router AR2, which is a serving router after move. This makes it possible to deliver packets among moving networks with the minimum delay to an intended recipient.

  • Patent number: 7496031
Abstract: A system and method is directed to routing a packet over a network to a probe. The system includes a replicator and a distributor. The replicator receives a packet from a client and replicates the packet. The distributor is either out-of-band or in-band to a flow of traffic between the client and a server. In the out-of-band configuration, the distributor forwards the replicate packet to at least one probe in a plurality of probes. The distributor receives a response to the replicate packet and transforms a source MAC address in the response to a MAC address of the distributor. The distributor forwards the transformed packet. The replicator forwards the original packet. In the in-band configuration, the distributor selects and forwards the original packet to a server using a first forwarding mechanism, and selects and forwards the replicate packet to a probe using a second forwarding mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7492782
Abstract: A high speed and high capacity switching apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes: N input ports each of which for outputting maximum l cells in a time slot, wherein each of the N input ports includes N virtual output queues (VOQs) which are grouped in l virtual output queues group with n VOQs; N×N switch fabric having l2 crossbar switch units for scheduling cells inputted from N input ports based on a first arbitration function based on a round-robin, wherein l VOQ groups are connected to l XSUs; and N output ports connected to l XSUs for selecting one cell from l XSUs in a cell time slot by scheduling cells by a second arbitration function based on a backlog weighed round-robin, which operates independently of the first arbitration function, and transferring the selected cell to its output link.

  • Patent number: 7480238
Abstract: A packet control mechanism for a computer data system that dynamically adjusts packet training depending on the utilization load on the processor. The dynamic adjustment of packet training can be to enable and disable packet training, or adjust the number of packets in the packet train. In preferred embodiments, the computer data system includes a processor utilization mechanism that indicates a load on a processor. When the packet control mechanism determines the load on the processor is above a threshold limit, the packet control mechanism reduces the processor load by compressing the packets into the packet train. The compressing of the packets is stopped or reduced when the processor load is below a threshold in order to increase the data throughput on the network interface.

  • Patent number: 7474653
Abstract: One embodiment disclosed relates to a method of processing a data packet. The data packet is received at a network device. A determination is made as to whether a multiple-key decision cache is hit by the data packet. At least one cached action is applied if the decision cache is hit. The data packet is processed using software routines if the decision cache is missed. Another embodiment disclosed relates to a network apparatus. The network apparatus includes a plurality of ports configured to receive data packets, and software routines are configured to process the data packets. Logic in the apparatus is configured to determine whether a multiple-key decision cache is hit by a data packet, to apply at least one cached action if the decision cache is hit, and to process the data packet using the software routines if the decision cache is missed.

  • Patent number: 7436844
Abstract: A system for controlling packet transmission in a communication network includes: a classifier for classifying a plurality of packets into different types and for transmitting the classified packets based on a service level agreement (SLA); a meter for determining whether a data arrival rate of packets received from the classifier is more than a token rate, and if not, considering the packets as in-profile packets, or otherwise, considering the packets as out-profile packets; a marker for re-marking packets received from the classifier and out-profile packets that need to be transmitted first based on the SLA; a traffic adjuster for discarding out-profile packets that do not need to be transmitted first based on the SLA; and a classifying server for providing differentiated bandwidths for packets received from the classifier and the traffic adjuster. A related method for controlling packet transmission in a communication network is also provided.
