  • Patent number: 8204050
Abstract: Switch elements, each receiving data from external sources and transmitting data to external sinks, are interconnected through a single rotator to form a switching node. The single rotator has a number of inlets equal to the number of switch elements and a number of outlets equal to the number of switch elements. A first set of channels connects the switch elements to inlets of the rotator and a second set of channels connects the outlets of the rotator to the switch elements. The connectivity pattern of the second set of channels is a transposition of the connectivity pattern of the first set of channels in order to preserve sequential data order of switched data. A controller communicatively coupled to the switch elements exchanges timing data with external nodes of a time-coherent network and schedules data transfer among the switch elements.

  • Patent number: 8194649
Abstract: Data communication apparatus including a port and a control entity. The control entity is operative to establish a connection with a remote entity over a first path and negotiate with the remote entity using in-band signaling over the first path establishment of a second path allowing the exchange of data between the data communication apparatus and the remote entity. The invention presents advantages from the standpoint of ease of implementation and bandwidth and resource savings. The use of an in-band messaging protocol to negotiate a establishment of the second path can be implemented generally in a straight forward manner. At the same time, the ability to transfer at least part of the connection to the second path avoids the drawbacks that would arise if that part of the connection were constrained to the first path. This feature allows the operator to take advantage of benefits provided by the second path but not available to the first path.

  • Patent number: 8189603
Abstract: PCI Express is a Bus or I/O interconnect standard for use inside the computer or embedded system enabling faster data transfers to and from peripheral devices. The standard is still evolving but has achieved a degree of stability such that other applications can be implemented using PCIE as basis. A PCIE based interconnect scheme to enable switching and inter-connection between external systems, such that the scalability can be applied to enable data transport between connected systems to form a cluster of systems is proposed. These connected systems can be any computing or embedded system. The scalability of the interconnect will allow the cluster to grow the bandwidth between the systems as they become necessary without changing to a different connection architecture.

  • Patent number: 8189571
Abstract: An interconnection between fully synchronous networks and next-generation frame communications networks is disclosed. A means of bidirectional frame format conversion between a synchronous multiplexing system and a logical multiplexing system is provided, along with a method of transmitting data between different networks on a path as if it were being transmitted in the same network. Further, when converting network control information in an STM network into data suitable for a packet network, even across the boundary of a synchronous multiplexing system and a logical multiplexing system, a unified communication management means is provided over the whole path.

  • Patent number: 8139585
Abstract: A method and system for providing users with the ability to control the configuration of data session initiated to connect terminals connected to the public-switched telecommunications network (“PSTN”) to services available on data networks. A legacy terminal may initiate a Voice-Over IP connection to a remote terminal by dialing the destination identifier of the remote terminal and a session code. The session code corresponds with one of several session profiles or sets of data session parameters defining characteristics of the data session. A media gateway controller detects the session code and retrieves the corresponding session profile to initiate the data session using the selected session profile.

  • Patent number: 8134916
Abstract: The invention relates to an architecture that facilitates load balancing among a plurality of hosts and preserve session affinity to a given host. An incoming stream of data packets that include packet sessions is input to one or more forwarding mechanisms for forwarding to one or more hosts. The forwarders generate a routing function that takes into consideration host availability, and distributes session packets according to the routing function. A session is distributed to the same host to preserve session affinity. When host availability changes, a new routing function is generated, such that any new session is routed according to the new routing function and existing sessions are routed according to the old routing function. When the old routing function becomes irrelevant, it is phased out. An optimization utilizes a maximally backward compatible hash function to minimize the differences between the old and new routing functions.

  • Patent number: 8130638
Abstract: The present invention elects an area border router from a plurality of potential area border routers by determining a full set of all areas attached to a router. A determination is made as to a full set of area pairs from the determined full set of areas. Routers are identified in a first area of the determined full set of areas that are reachable through an intra-area route in the first area, and routers are identified in a second area of the determined full set of areas that are reachable through an intra-area route in the second area. If there is a router that is unreachable through either an intra-area route in the first area or an intra-area route in the second area, then declare the first router to be an area border router, else new first and second areas are selected.

  • Patent number: 8130679
Abstract: A method and system for processing received VoIP data packets based on preferences of a recipient client or capabilities of a recipient computing device is provided. Several users and/or service providers are allowed to specify rules instructing how to process contextual information upon receipt of the contextual information. More specifically, a recipient computing device may have contextual processing rules specified based on its individual need and capability. The contextual processing rules may indicate what application can be used on a certain type of contextual information. Based on the contextual processing rules, the contextual information may be stored in local storage of the recipient computing device or forwarded to another device. In this manner, each recipient computing device of the recipient client can process contextual information based on its need and capability.

  • Patent number: 8107401
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for providing a virtual assistant to at least one party of a communication. The virtual assistant is injected into the communication, for example, by a VXML engine. The operation of the virtual assistant is controlled by one or more software modules that are obtained from a proxy node. The software modules allow commands received from or destined for the party to be interpreted. The virtual assistant may optionally be customized based on a selection of the one or more supported external applications. The proxy node provides at least one method for the party that allows the party to access functionality provided by at least one external application. The proxy node interprets signals from the virtual assistant; converts the signals from the virtual assistant into commands for the external application; and converts one or more of commands, messages and data from the external application into signals understood by the virtual assistant.

  • Patent number: 8064331
Abstract: A protocol converting unit stores identification information for identifying a transfer path for data in a second network and a transmission source address specified in a packet in a corresponding manner. A failure detecting unit detects a transfer path in which a failure has occurred in the second network. • Patent number: 8054766
Abstract: The present invention permits translation of SM addresses (*, G1) and (*, G2) to configurable SSM addresses (S0, G0). IGMPv2 group membership queries from the receiver subnet are translated to IGMPv3 membership queries for processing in a SSM network. In the preferred embodiment, packets travel via a connection to the multicast router (mrouter). The mrouter queries an IGMPv2 receiver. The IGMPv2 receiver generates a membership report and sends it back to the mrouter. The mrouter translates the membership report into a (S0, G0) as specified in a multicast address translation table and stores the translation in the Multicast Forward Information Base (MFIB) located in the mrouter. Multicast payload addressed (S0, G0) flowing towards the IGMPv2 receiver can be translated to (S0, G0). When media data is addressed to (S0, G0), the mrouter consults the MFIB for forwarding and can also translate the destination address to (S1, G1).
