  • Patent number: 5391214
Abstract: The problem of unevenness of bottle temperatures at the entry of slow annealing furnace due to the variation of time periods necessary for respective bottles discharged from an IS bottle manufacturing machine to reach the annealing furnace has been solved by an equalization of said time periods. For this purpose, the bottle discharging order from the IS bottle manufacturing machine is controlled and use is made of two conveyors having different running speeds and/or direction of running. As a result, a precise temperature control in the Hot-End-Coating apparatus provided upstream from the annealing furnace can be carried out owing to the equalized temperatures of bottles entering into the annealing furnace.

  • Patent number: 5387270
Abstract: A production installation for the contact toughening of glass sheets comprises a horizontal furnace for heating the glass sheets, a press containing two liquid-cooled pressing plates, a feed apparatus for transferring the heated glass sheets into the press and a removal apparatus for removing the toughened glass sheets out of the press. To the lower pressing plate, a solids-transmitted sound pick-up is coupled which, if a glass sheet breaks in the press, supplies an electrical signal. From this signal, after suitable processing of the signal, the control device is triggered, and as a result thereof interrupts the process sequence.

  • Patent number: 5387321
Abstract: Apparatus and method for the pyrolysis of waste material which is not itself susceptible to heating by microwave radiation. The method comprises:(a) contacting the waste material, under an atmosphere wherein flame generation is substantially prevented, with a bed of pulverulent carbonaceous material (such as pulverised scrap tires) which is susceptible to heating by microwave irradiation; and(b) heating the pulverulent material by means of microwave irradiation so as to transfer thermal energy from the pulverulent material to the waste material and cause substantial pyrolysis of the waste material.

  • Patent number: 5383947
Abstract: The invention relates to a press-bending method and apparatus for bending glass sheets. The press bending is effected between an upper curved mold surface (12) and a lower ring mold (13). Air is blown through pores included in an upper mold (2) into a space (3) between mold surface (12) and a glass sheet (11), and vacuumed from the edges of the space for developing in the space (3) a negative pressure (P.sub.2) capable of bearing a glass sheet (1) in the immediate proximity of the mold surface (12), yet without contacting the mold surface (12).

  • Patent number: 5380348
Abstract: Apparatus operable in accordance with the method of the present invention is provided for selectively cooling areas of a glass sheet during heating in the lehr in order to eliminate hot spots and minimize undesirable sagging of portions of the glass sheet. The apparatus includes a gas hearth block upon which the glass sheet is supported during heating and an air nozzle or air nozzles connected to a source of compressed room temperature air located over those areas of the glass sheet that tend to develop hot spots. The air nozzle or air nozzles blow cooler air onto those selected areas of the glass sheet and even out the temperature of the heated glass sheet. This may be done prior to forming and/or tempering the glass sheet. The method and apparatus of the present invention is particularly useful with automobile glazings, such as sidelights and rear windows, bearing peripheral dark banding which show an increased tendency to sag during heating, particularly at the top edge portions.

  • Patent number: 5368624
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for equalizing the temperature profile of glass sheets in a roller-equipped furnace included in a horizontal tempering plant. At least in the early stage of a heating cycle, the upper surface of a glass sheet is exposed to an intensified convection heat effect by blasting air into the furnace from blasting pipes (3) located close to the upper surface of a glass sheet. This blasting compensates for the vigorous heat transfer to the lower surface of a glass sheet in the early stage of a heating cycle, which is caused by hot rollers. The blasting range and spot is manoeuvred in the longitudinal direction of a furnace in a manner that, at any given time, the blasting is only applied to that longitudinal section of a furnace in which a movable glass sheet is located at a given time.

  • Patent number: 5366595
Abstract: A loading mechanism places waste material into a porous rotatable cylinder that is mounted for relative rotation within an air-tight housing. Once loaded, the housing is sealed and oxygen is evacuated. A microwave heating device heats the waste material within the cylinder and breaks the waste material down into solid and fluid products. A drive motor simultaneously rotates the cylinder at high speed, creating centrifugal force on the waste material. The fluid products escape outwardly from the porous cylinder and are transferred to a heat exchanger chamber where they are cooled. A fractional distillation system stratifies the fluid products according to weight for purposes of recovery.

  • Patent number: 5362381
Abstract: Waste lubricating oil is reprocessed into commercially usable diesel fuel and naphtha by thermocracking. A thermocracker unit is fired with sludge removed from the principal pool of oil undergoing vaporization. The vapors are separated from liquids in a primary distillation tower with precisely controlled heating. Resultant vapors are partially condensed. Resultant liquids flow downward through a secondary distillation tower into a reboiler which is heated by a flue gas bypass with an auxiliary burner. Vapors leaving the secondary distillation tower are partially condensed and resultant fluids are passed to a light ends flash tank. Gases from the flash tank fuel the auxiliary burner. Liquids are collected and stored for selling as naphtha. Hot liquids are withdrawn from the reboiler and are immediately cooled to atmospheric conditions. Liquids within specification are stored in a diesel storage tank for further use and sale.

  • Patent number: 5358543
Abstract: In an individual section machine for producing glass containers from molten glass, a sliding tube-in-a-tube arrangement forms part of an internal cooling air passageway for directing a pressurized air flow to a pressing plunger. A linearly-movable piston comprising a ring-shaped base with an upwardly-projecting rod portion, is supported within a cylinder casing, and the plunger is supported on a projecting end of the rod portion. The piston has a central opening in the bore of the rod portion which merges with a longitudinal elongated thin-walled tubular member. The tubular member is disposed to define an annular space between its outer surface and the internal bore sidewall. A fixed second tubular member projects centrally upwardly from the cylinder casing's base end and into the annular space whereby linear movement of the piston causes the first tubular member to telescopically slide within the fixed second tubular member and maintain an extensible-retractable air tube structure.
