  • Patent number: 4997385
Abstract: This invention relates to a low-insertion-force electrical connector of the type in which a pair of matable housings (10,110), containing complementary matable contacts or terminals (30,150), are matable by the lateral movement of one housing (10) relative to the other (110). Sufficient safeguards are designed in the system hereof to insure a state of positive mating, or in the alternative, a state of non-mating. The contacts (150) of housing (110) are solder contacts having a first leg (162) for mounting engagement with a circuit board, and a pair of diverging arms (164) projecting in a plane above said first leg, with portions (166) thereof turned inwardly and downwardly and that the endmost portions (168) are bent normal thereto for laterally receiving a male pin member (30) mounted in housing (10). Leverage means (124,126) are provided on housing (110) to effect such lateral movement.

  • Patent number: 4995825
Abstract: A socket for interconnecting an electronic module to a circuit board includes an insulative housing having a plurality of terminals applying a moment to the module. A U-shaped latch is positioned within a pocket at each end of the insulative housing. The U-shaped latch is of metal and has two legs joined by a bight, the two legs being flexible as the module is rotated into a slot in the insulative housing. The U-shaped latch includes a tab extending around an upwardly extending projection on the backwall of the housing to provide additional support to the latch. The latch thus provides means for holding the module securely within the housing after rotation to an upright position.

  • Patent number: 4995827
Abstract: An insulation displacement connector is described, of the type that includes a cap (26) that can push a ribbon cable or discrete wires (12) into insulation displacement contacts (20) projecting from the top of an insulative body (14) until the cap latches to the body, which provides strain relief for the cable in a simple construction. The cap includes a cover part (44) that presses down on the cable and an elongated cable support (60) lying under one side of the cover part to enable the cable to be threaded between the cover part and the cable support. The cable support is connected to the cover part by bendable arms (74,76), and the insulative body has a deflecting surface (90) that deflects the cable support upwardly as the cap is pushed down, to squeeze the cable between the cable support (60) and the side (46) of the cover part for strain relief.

  • Patent number: 4988309
Abstract: An automotive power plant has an electrically controlled transmission 12 which is connected to control modules by a wiring harness. The end of the wiring harness is attached to the transmission by an electrical connector which has a spring like thermoplastic cover which is secured to the insulator body of the electrical connector by a bayonet slot arrangement and which has an integral cable strap for securing an end of a convoluted conduit forming part of the wiring harness.

  • Patent number: 4984991
Abstract: An IC socket has a socket board having a plurality of contacts for contacting IC leads, and IC accommodating portion formed in a central portion thereof, and an IC supporting platform adapted to support an IC package thereon and disposed in the accommodating portion so as to be movable in an upward and downward direction. The contacts are formed in parallel along opposing sides of the supporting platform. A plurality of grooves for positioning the contacts are formed in parallel in opposing sides of the IC supporting platform. Contacting portions of resilient contacting pieces of the contacts are received in the positioning grooves. The resilient contacting pieces are regulated by partition walls defining the positioning grooves. The IC socket is characterized in that among the partition wall groups formed on four sides, one portion of partition wall groups of at least two opposite sides are interconnected at free ends of the partition walls.

  • Patent number: 4973269
Abstract: A device for terminating a braided shield to a grounding connector, having a plate that pushes an elastomeric member into the braided shield, pressing the braided shield into the grounding connector, electrically grounding the shield to the connector. The plate and elastomer are attached to a shell, by either a plurality of pins or a retaining ring. The shell has an internal thread that mates with an external thread of the grounding connector, such that when the shell is screwed onto the connector, the plate pushes the elastomeric member into contact with the braided shield, creating an electrical contact between the shield and the grounding connector.
