Patent number: 10206148Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing a handover of fewer than all bearers associated with a user equipment are disclosed. An example method includes establishing a connection for fewer than all bearers associated with the user equipment, via a selective handover procedure, and receiving, from a source base station or a user equipment, a handover completion message for the fewer than all bearers associated with the user equipment. The example method further includes sending, to a core network node, a request to switch a path for the fewer than all bearers, the request comprising an information element providing an indication of whether or not a control interface connection between the source base station and the core network node should continue to be maintained, and thus not switched to the target base station. In some embodiments, but not all, an acknowledgement message is subsequently received, in response to the request.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2014Date of Patent: February 12, 2019Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Oumer Teyeb, Angelo Centonza, Riikka Susitaival

Patent number: 10187802Abstract: In order to facilitate communication in a dynamic cellular network, an accessibility issue in the dynamic cellular network may be detected. For example, if an electronic device is near the boundary between two adjacent cells in the dynamic cellular-telephone network, the signal power of signals from the adjacent cell may be higher than that of signals from the current servicing cell, which may offer an opportunity to improve communication performance. Thus, the accessibility issue may be detected if the difference is larger than a threshold value (such as 2-4 dB). In response to detecting the accessibility issue, a remedial action may be performed, such as repeating at least a portion of an acquisition process. In this way, the communication technique may improve the communication performance of the electronic device in the dynamic cellular network, thereby improving the user experience and customer satisfaction.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2013Date of Patent: January 22, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Zhu Ji, Johnson O. Patent number: 7706337Abstract: A method for performing neighbor discovery in a multi-tier wireless local area network where a client creates a neighbor list identifying a neighbor wherein the neighbor is identified as an access point or a client. Then, the client determines a time to perform a scan of neighbors based upon 1) a type of neighbor discovery to be performed and 2) when a first beacon is transmitted by an access point in a first tier of the multi-tier wireless local area network. Subsequently, the client performs a scan of neighbors at the determined time on a channel associated with the type of neighbor discovery. Finally, the client receives a beacon sent from a neighbor of the client to update the neighbor list with information transmitted in the beacon.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2004Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Aparna Pandey, Randy L. Patent number: 7627335Abstract: A mobile electronic device having a keyboard has a cover plate acting as a dial keypad. The keypad has a push-through, hinge-spring design that activates only one of two keyboard keys underlying a dial key and allows backlighting transmissivity. A translucent material can be used to allow the keyboard key backlighting to be coupled through to a top dial key. The keypad creates an aesthetically balanced dial keypad arrangement over a QWERTY keyboard. A preferable mechanical implementation allows backlighting and has an offset contact and spring design to activate one of the two underlying keys. This activation simplifies the software implementation for executing the dial number since the signal is coming from one address rather than having to make a determination of whether it is coming from one or two addresses. Moreover, the resulting dial key press has a standard single click feel.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2006Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Roman Peter Rak, Jason Griffin, Steven Fyke, Paul Robert Chyc

Patent number: 7602377Abstract: Undesired key depression of a mobile device is prevented using a predetermined key activation pattern. This pattern includes successively pressing one or more keys of the mobile device a predetermined number of times. When this occurs, the mobile device converts from a key depression preventing mode to a half-operation mode. During this latter mode, functions corresponding to key inputs are automatically performed, provided they are input within a prescribed period of time. Otherwise, the mobile device converts back to the key depression preventing mode. As a result, undesired operation and power consumption of the mobile device is prevented.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2004Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventor: Chan-Woo Kim

Patent number: 7564801Abstract: A method of router reachability verification for hosts in computer networks such as IPv6 networks is presented where hosts transmit router solicitations including information identifying a current router, and possibly one or more previous routers. A router that receives the router solicitations may then determine if it is the current router or one of the previous routers from the router solicitation information. If a router receiving the router solicitation is the current router, it waits a first delay before transmitting a router advertisement (RA). If the router is not a current router, it waits a second, longer delay. Accordingly, hosts may receive RAs from their current router before any other routers, thereby preventing unnecessary hand-offs. Also, RAs may include target host addresses so that hosts receiving the RAs may be aware of router reachability and avoid attempting to configure to undesirable routers.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2004Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Panasonic CorporationInventor: Sathya Narayanan
